marcusfizer21ParticipantI read a simple sentence from a SLAM Magazine which described the current Nets organization as a whole… It stated that "The Brooklyn Nets are arrogantly ignorant…" That simple sentence alone is what I feel of the Nets right now..
I don’t blame them trying to win now, trying to imitate the 2008 Boston Celtics.. But by getting trades here and there to the point where their salary cap goes as high as $102 million… I just thought it’s ridiculous to be that desperate to form a "win" now team with a bunch of old veterans who are way past their prime… and now getting off to a very poor start, it is starting to backfire in the front office and their stupidity to think that guys like KG and Paul Pierce can still be effective at this stage in their career…
I love J-Kidd as a player.. He was my favorite player when MJ retired and before D-Rose came in… I’m glad he won a ring before he called it quits but I just don’t think the Nets can inculcate the "win" now attitude with a rookie coach… Kidd is no Tom Thibodeau…
As a fan of the NBA in general, I shake my head and laugh at the same time with what is happening with this team… Though it’s still very early in the season and a lot can happen then… But you can definitely tell they are not the team most expected them to be during the off-season.. They are "turr-ible"… Mikhail Prokhorov is a dedicated owner, I’ll give him that… But the way he trusted Billy King as GM could be one of the biggests mistake he has ever made…

TomShoeParticipantWoah now, let’s not go that far.
This Nets teams is an overpaid, underachieveing, disaster of a team. Only Lopez (20 PPG), Kirilenko (2nd best PER on the team), and Plumlee (Rookie deal) can be said to be playing up to their contracts right now. Their problem was that they relied on aging veterans as a crutch to prop themselves up through the grind of an 82-game season. Eventually, those 35 and 36 year olds are going to get injured, and their depth has suffered as a result. This is the exact same reason why you see teams like the Spurs dominate year in and year out. Of course they’ve had the same Big 3 for years, but they’re backed up by young, high basketball IQ talent that know their roles in the system. Bellinelli, Leonard, Green, Diaw, Joseph, and Mills have all had huge roles in their 13-2 run to start the season, and the same can be said for Indiana, and Oklahoma City to an extent (Their big 3 isn’t exactly old).
That, and Kidd cannot coach. You should never entrust a win-now franchise to a rookie coach unless he’s spent time in your system. Mark Jackson is a good coach because he was installed on a team that was clearly going to be bad, so he had time to grow and develop as a strategist and a leader.

Ahkasi ClayParticipantthe owner whent above and beyond giving this team the payroll to be successful. If it isnt working it is now on the coach and the players.

Sewok15ParticipantI have been calling them Lakers-East since July. The Lakers at least made the playoffs last year although it was as the 8 seed. I still think they can turn it around enough to make the playoffs (mostly because the east is so bad…AGAIN).
They just aren’t young and athletic enough to compete with teams who can run all day and defend without getting tired. Jason Kidd was a very shakey hire and although he is a heady point guard (ala Mark Jackson) he isn’t the best fit as coach. Jackson had a young team that took some lumps early on and the Nets are in a battle with father time so they don’t have the luxury of patience. Last time I checked father time was still undefeated.

GlenTaylorSucksParticipantJust a fun fact- they don’t have a first round pick until 2019

TyroberParticipantI’d have to look at the specific years because they still have some picks but the teams have the option to swap picks with them in a couple of those years.

TomShoeParticipant1/2 those years, they have no pick, and with the other 1/2, they have to swap with someone else if they have the better pick.
Ahhh, the Stepien rule. Keeps crappy GMs from handicapping their teams, but it doesn’t go far enough IMO.

TallmanNYCParticipantI still think this team can turn it around. Garnett, Pierce and DWill will turn it around and this team will be competitive. Remember how good DWill was after the all star break last year. He can do that again. Pierce and Garnett are one year older, but that doesn’t mean they went from good (remember they were good last year) to terrible. Age doesn’t come up that fast. And AK was very good last year. Once he gets back on the court it will help a lot.

ball4life66ParticipantHawks get to swap picks with Nets this year and next year so I pray they keep losing. If we are able to get a top 5 because of how bad they are. LOL

Mr. HookShotParticipantThe definitely need to bring in another coach: I’m normally not someone who says "switch coach", but in this case there is no other option. There is just no hustle, no fire at all anymore in these Nets: maybe bring in somebody like Stan v Gundy (idk).

Ghost01ParticipantThe Nets are in for long few years if this season continues to be a disaster. They have no picks, and no young talent.

phila9012Participantdont forget they basically traded harrison barnes for gerald wallace too. If they had kept their players and then went after players this year they would be fine. Harrison barnes would have gotten that boston trade done instead of giving up 3 first round picks, or they could have kept him.
