Worst contracts in nba

A couple weeks ago the Lakers didn’t sell out a home game. First time in over a decade. This is bigger than stats. Kobe actually should have taken more. Picture if Kobe left and went to let’s say Chicago…The Lakers organization would have lost a lot more than 49 mill. So don’t be stupid.

Off the top of my head there are two awful contracts that have not been mentioned.  The contracts of Amare Stoudemire and Gilbert Arenas.  Stoudemire is making 21.5 mil this season and another 23.5 next season.  He averages 5 pts and 3rebs.  Arenas is making 22 mil and doesn’t even play. Keep in mind that unlike Kobe, these guys aren’t making their respective organizations money either.   The Lakers signed a $3billion TV deal, which was in large part due to Kobe and what he has brought to the Laker franchise.  His new extension might limit the team in bringing in players over the next 2 years, but I would say the money associated with Kobe’s extension is relatively a small price to pay when compared to how much the franchise has and will generate off of him.

He seems like a likely buyout candidate (similar to Marbury many years ago) if he does not get traded next year.

Regarding Kobe, it is an excellent deal for the Lakers FRANCHISE simply because Kobe makes them much more money in two years than $48 million. Even if he can no longer play at the superstar level, he is a walking legend and is still the face of one of the best franchises in professional sports.

Rudy Gay is earning $18 mill this season and $19 mill next season.

The guy is averaging 37% fg and is taking 19 shots a game. 3.4 t/o per game which is 10th in the league. Last 2 season has average 40% and 42% from the field.

What i now find funny is that he has now banned stat sheets in the lock room – I wonder why ?

It’s common practice that after every game each player is provided a scoresheet. The sheet breaks down the individual players’ contributions as well as team totals.

That won’t be happening anymore in Toronto. Rudy Gay has put a stop to it. Gay sees the scoresheets as an unnecessary barrier to team unity or even a temptation to be more focussed on what is best for the individual as opposed to what is best for the team.

“We’re not playing for stats,” Gay said. Gay said there was no incident or no moment that pushed him toward this decision but as a leader on this team, he felt it was just something that was best for the team. “I wanted to just nip it in the butt before it became an issue,” he said. “We come in here after losses, after wins and people are staring at those stat sheets, but that’s not what we’re about. We’re a team and the stat that matters is the W.”

But there is absolutely no reason to pay ANY PLAYER specifically one who is going to be 36 and 37 both years respectively 23-25 million dollars a season.

Specifically if you are in the Lakers situation. If you have a championship roster, and going over the luxury tax is irrelevant to you, then fine, go do it. When you have a roster filled with expiring contracts and need to sign as many big free agents as possible for next year, then it is a TERRIBLE CONTRACT.

Again, not hating on Kobe one bit. I wouldn’t say no either. I’m not saying he doesn’t have a legacy/history/etc/etc but he does not need to be paid like that when no other team in the league would pay him half that. End of story.
