MalcolmxParticipantI’m not sure if my eyes are playing tricks on me or something but it seems like Dwight Howard does not get up as high as he used to get. I know he is supposed to be 100% healthy now and his Vertical from Orlando day’s does not seem there. He is still more athletic than Almost every center in the league and stronger than many of them as well. All I’m saying is his Vertical explosion just doesn’t seem all the way there. Does any one else see this or am I making a mistake?

IndianaBasketballParticipantDwight definitely isn’t the same athlete he was in Orlando.
He doesn’t jump as high and he’s not as explosive/quick off of his feet either.
Honestly… That’s too be expected though. Even though he’s healthy, once you have a back injury like that (that affects the nerves in your leg, etc), you’re never really the same.

TallmanNYCParticipantThat vertical where he could easily touch 12 feet is gone. Even without injury some guys can’t maintain their best hops into their late 20s. But the injury has taken something out of him. He is still great. But he isn’t an MVP candidate level player anymore.

samosasParticipantIs there any discernible skill set tht Dwight Howard has now that he didn’t have when he entered the league?

Bob BallParticipantGrantland ran a piece the other day about the rockets terrible defense and Dwights post game getting worse. in one of the pictures dwight is skying for a hand dunk of vert and the caption says he cant get this high anymore. The whole article is a good read and man is he a differnt player since the back injury. theres the linkhttp://www.grantland.com/story/_/id/9997968/the-rockets-approach-nba-finals-worthy

Toronto16ParticipantYea Dwight has undoubtedly lost his bounce. What separated Dwight from the other centres in the NBA was how much bigger and stronger he was. I look at him now, he definitely isn’t the same weight as he was in Orlando, seems to have lost some muscle mass. He definitely isn’t jumping as high and isn’t running as fast. The problem is, because he is only 6’9, without those advantages, the tallers centres really give him a problem in the low post. Sadly, while he is still really good, I think his best days are behind him.

Chilbert arenasParticipantDwight didn’t have the footwork when he entered the league that he has now.

RObin PadillaParticipantHe doesn’t have that Elite Quick jump/dunk anymore that him Deandre Jordan have. He can still score in a lot of ways, but he definetly needs to improve on his post fundamentals to make up for it.

TRC1991ParticipantIf you want a modern-day version of Dwight Howard when he was on the Magic:
Andre Drummond (a little bit more raw offensively; but the explosive athleticism is on par with D12’s early days)

chrsw003ParticipantI was thinking about this recently too. I remember when he was on Orlando they would show the stat for most dunks in the league and he was always in first place by a wide margin. Would be interested to see that stat now, I bet his dunks are way down and most likely not even in first anymore.

DolanCareParticipantThe main difference between Orlando Dwight and Houston/Laker Dwight is the muscle definition. In Orlando, Dwight had shoulders like beach balls and was ripped. Not the case at all now.
Fortunately for him, its hasn’t affected his rebounding. He has better rebounding instincts now than he use to. But it has hurt him offensively and on defense. That genrational rim-protecter that we once saw is gone.

Tongue-Out-Like-23ParticipantBack problems.
T-Mac was one of the most explosive athletes to ever play the game and back injuries turned him into an unathletic and slow player.
