Blake gets beat up about being overrated and only being able to dunk. Well last night, I watch the Clippers play the Thunder, and I was really really impressed with Blake Griffin. Granted Serge Ibaka was gone for majority of the game but still.  22 points, 12 rebounds, 7 assists and 3 steals, Blake showed his versaitility, he played great defense, moving his feat and jumping passing lanes, proving you don’t have to be shot-blocker as big man to be good on defense. Blake handled the ball from coast-to-coast on fast-breaks and finished. Blake is as good as anyone finishing in transition.

Blake is eaisly an all-star, a top 5 PF, possibly top 3. I’m sure this has already been said, but I think Blake has beome underrated because so many people think he can only dunk.

Blake Griffin hate is definitely misplaced but with that being said I’m glad to see his rebounding numbers up.

The Griffin hate also comes from the fact he’s on every other commercial these days and seems to be somewhat smug. I personally have always been a fan of Blakes but try to hide it on this site because of the backlash that comes with that. He’s certainly more than a dunker but no where near the player Kevin Love is.

Blake gets killed for being a flopper and whining too much. While I do agree he flops too much and it drives me nuts, he does seem to get hacked almost every time he gets in the paint and doesn’t get the benefit of the doubt from the refs the way that Durant, Lebron, or even Jamal Crawford get. His all around game is very underrated , his jumps shot and free throws are improved this year but nothing to write home about just yet and his post game still isn’t there yet.

He get’s killed for not being tough enough but he’s averaged 20 and 10 for his first 3 years in the league while a player like Amare never once averaged 10 rebounds at any point in his career.

All in all he’s a very polarizing player in that fact that most people either love or hate him and those opinions can only be changed with time either way.

People don’t like Blake because he flops and acts like a btch sometimes so they’ll hang on to old criticisms even if they don’t apply anymore. Blake is a skilled and improved player. His ball-handling and passing are very good for a PF. He’s a high IQ player too, at least offensively. He’s not the most polished player in the post, but he also doesn’t have the luxury of just raising up and shooting over defenders in the post because of his below average length. Even if it’s early, he’s still scoring on roughly 49% of his post up opportunities at a .93 point per possession clip. That is good enough for 10th in the entire league. He’s also shooting 41% on his mid-range jumpers which is a solid rate as well. People who still call him just a dunker are either being willfully ignorant or don’t know what they’re looking at.

Also forgot to mention this, but Blake plays as hard and hustles as much anyone else in the NBA. Unlike some superstars or commercial guys, I really appreciate any player who hustles that much.

What people don’t realize about Griffin is that while alot of his points come off dunks his dunks aren’t the normal dump off pass to a wide open guy under the hoop type of dunk. His dunks are 5-8 feet out alot of times. Most guys would have to take a tough floater or contested layup in traffic in order to get the two points and aren’t converting these plays at the near 100% clip Griffin does. If he catches the ball anywhere from the dotted line in and you don’t meet him with some serious help D he is putting it home every time. The guy is shooting 57% from the floor although many question his offensive game.

That is such a good point.  People constantly underrate players known only as "dunkers" because they equate all dunking as the same and underrate bigs who excel off the ball.  Players like Blake Griffin, Anthony Davis, and Derrick Favors who can catch and dunk without dribbling from almost anywhere inside the free throw line are incredibly valuable in the pick-and-roll oriented NBA.  Griffin’s ability to finish in traffic off pocket passes is incredibly valuable and his ability to catch and finish without dribbling or only with a single dribble makes him extremely tough to defend as a roll-man.  He isn’t perfect, as he is a very poor defender and is inconsistent at other aspects of offense, but his dunking is not just stylish.  It is also extremely tough to defend.

I feel the same way about Dwight Howard. People like to say he has no post moves, but come on! He used to drop 40 sometimes on the Magic. Both of these guys are a little underrated at this point after all the beating they’ve taken.
