Sixers coach Brett Brown say Nerlens Noel’s shot needs a total rebuild. Here’s video of Nerlens playing ‘horse.’

    http://www.delcotimes.com/sports/20131105/brown-says-noel-needs-total-rebuild-on-his-shot-with-video

My question is how difficult is it to rebuild a shot when a player is going through ACL rehab. I can see where it would be a lot easier to fix his free throw shot during this time, but what about the jump shot?

Can’t be that difficult. He can jump off his knee right now. He’s past the non-jumping stage.
When is the “rebuild” supposed to start? Because the form on his jumper doesn’t look any different in that vid. Still follows through out, not up and out. He still drops his left shoulder and he shot on the way down. Is that vid supposed to show new and improved form? B/c I don’t see it.

And lol at the last jump hook.

Is showing an air balled jump hook supposed to be encouraging?

So Noel supposedly shot the ball with 2 hands according to the article.
    ————————————
“We’re really trying to go back to a lot of one-handed shooting. I can sense (Noel) is shooting with two hands behind my back. What happens is the off-hand comes in and the elbows start coming out. When he goes one-handed, he gets the elbow under it and he gets a good-looking shot. He can’t get his guide hand on the ball. It just sends it all over the place.
    ——————————-

How the hell do you still shoot with 2 hands in college? I can understand if a player still shoots with 2 hands and is GOOD at it, like Jeff Hornacek. But if you’re a bad shooter, at least try to learn the basics of shooting.
Who was working with him at UK?

I’m guessing it’s the same coach that worked with MKG.

He played his role at UK, his role wasn’t to shot jumpers! Was to block shots and run the floor. SMH.

Oh ok. So forget about working on becoming a better basketball player, forget about developing. They just need to do what they already do well.

If recruits actually cared about getting better before they entered the league, you wouldn’t see so many 5 star players going to UK.

What?? You gotta play as a TEAM and his role was to defend, rebound, run the floor etc. Not to knock down jumpers. Obviously you never played organized basketball besides rec league.

I think Siggy is trying to point out that even though he wasnt asked to shoot jumpers during games he should of still been taught the proper way to shoot and he did have to shoot foul shots.

You don’t think that learning to shoot properly would help his game and therefore his team? 52% from the line is acceptable? No spacing on the interior due to bigs not even being considered a threat from 10 ft away is acceptable?

Your vision of basketball is too compartmentalized and basic. There is NO reason for ANY player to not work on a jumper, regardless of role.

How does someone shoot with two hands at that level? Ask Joakim Noah.

…And 6 yrs into his NBA career opposing teams still don’t play him 15 ft away from the basket and he’ll games without making a single jumper. Noah hasn’t exactly made it “work.”

He’s a borderline all-star center, and he shoots around 75% from the FT line. I think he’s done just fine.

A borderline all-star who could be better. Imagine Noah with a jumper. As a Bulls fan I know I do. That would mean more driving lanes, better spacing, less blitzed PnRs, less need to play Boozer which would help their defense even more, etc. Noah is the 2nd best playmaker on the team. Some would argue that he is the best playmaker on the team. He handles the ball a lot from the high post and pinch post areas. Him catching the ball in those areas and not having to be guarded hurts the Bulls’ offense since his defender can just sink back into the lane and help out on cutters. Doing just fine is not good enough. Noah should’ve sought help earlier but he was too stubborn. That release was never gonna amount to anything consistent.

I think everyone on this board needs to apply for an NBA assistant coaching job, because if you read closely, everyone’s an expert.

His hookshot range is apparently only 5 feet. Either way they didn’t draft him for his offense so anything they develop on that side is mostly a bonus.

I was just at sixers game noel was out there hours before the rest of the team shooting( I got there early) when the game started he put his suit on and sat on the bench his shot was falling surprisingly from mid range . He also isn’t as skinny as I thought he’s all muscle now extremely ripped. This year alone I might add 50 to 100 pounds to my bench press imagine noel. When the sixers get their new exclusive training facility he will be much bigger and his shot will improve a lot remember when amare got hurt and came back with a solid jumper. I was never big fan of noel but if he gains weight and gets a offensive game like ibaka did I can become a fan.

If this rounds his game, it’ll be worth every game they seemingly needlessly sat him out this season.
