I am sitting on my laptop watching old Amare film. Before the micro fracture, and a thought came into my mind. I think if he has not gotten injured so severely he might of been the best power forward in the NBA right now or would be 2nd at worst. Amare was really scary from the day he stepped onto an NBA court. Good height,Long arms and Athletic but also good strength to go with his speed and pop off of the floor. He had some post skills, not great but they were good. He could use his left hand if he needed. Also could start a fast break when he rebounded.Could run the pick and roll and well as pick and pop because he became a solid mid range jump shot shooter,Also was a good Free Throw shooter. He always was in the high 70’s to low 80’s in free throw percentage. He also patrolled the paint well to block shots and he would rebound at a good clip but not great clip. It’s really sad that we didn’t get to see Amare pan out and hit his peak.We only got to see a glimpse.

There’s a reason he got a max contract in free agency… He was great before that injury.

Makes you wonder about how many older players who could have been just as good as some of the folks in the hall of fame but for whatever reason, just couldn’t quite make it there. Hell, a lot of earlier NBA games weren’t even televised, unlike today where an athlete’s progression is chronicled from day one. Amare will be forgotten by anyone younger than a teenager now and when he shows up randomly on ESPN when it’s his birthday or whatever kids will go ‘What’s an Amare?’

He was first team in 2007 the year he came back from surgery, it was when he went to the Knicks he constantly got injured and couldn’t stay healthy. Steve Nash’s injuries started to keep him out of games after going to the Lakers. Grant Hill played 80 games then went to the Clippers and didn’t dress out till February. Summation… The Phoenix Suns training staff is far and beyond the best in sports. Aaron Nelson needs a raise.

You’re definitely right about Amare’s dominance. But this is why everyone should beware of the players that rely completely on their physical gifts.

Even though Amare has a nice mid range jumper, he never developed the low post moves that would keep him effective in his later years. Once he lost that crazy first step, he became a veryyyy limited player. And that’s why he always gets reinjured- he doesn’t know how to play without explosion. Sighh he might prove to be the worse contract in the league.

Yes, Amare was pretty good but not as great as some people think.

Playing with Steve Nash and the fast paced offense inflated Amare’s stats just like it did Shawn Marion’s. Please check their stats as a sun, then when they got traded and you will see a big difference. Now remember how many P&R Nash & Amare did, then think his stats would be even more inflated than Marion’s.

Amare was never a good defender – he got exposed alot during the playoffs.

He was never worth a max contract, having knee injuries just made it even worse……

You dont know what you are talking about dawg, jus shut up.

He had Raymon Felton playing like an all star when he first got traded to Ny. He had a good record before melo got there, And averaged 2 blocks per game. Look at the stats when he was the captain, go-to guy at NY with a supporting cast of Felton, gallo, landry fields and Wilson Chandler… Many of whom are not even doing to good right now… Amare was tearing it up and WInning. Then Melo got there, and everything went to sh.

You are dsrecpecting one of my favorite players of all times, so get you’re facts homey. The “he did it because Nash BS” is not true

Not only was he a Beast, he was Blake Griffin-exciting.

Stats don’t mean much. Rodman averaged less than 1 block per game and he is one of the best EVER defenders.

Did you watch him play defense especially in the playoffs when it counted ? He would never take a charge and was out of position alot of times and had to gamble and go for the block.

Mike D’Antoni and his fast pace offense was in charge of the Knicks. It was this fast paced offense that got Felton & Amare his stats. The same way NC and Kendall Marshall looked good with their fast paced offense (now look at Marshall)

Yes he is a good player with some big highlight dunks but his defense wasn’t great and his stats were inflated with the fast paced offense and having Nash. The Suns never made it to the Finals and after watching his defense and knee issues sensibly did not offer him that huge contract.

He never had a chance to play under any under coach other than D’antoni when he was healthy, so holding that against him doesnt seem fair.

O naw bruh Amare was worth the max, people say cause he played with so and so is the reason he did this or that. SO

Thats what’s supposed to happen thats why teams trade for other players, its all about a system not a certain player, so what Nash made Amare look better than what he probably was, that was Nash’s job, and Amare did his job and he deserved the max.

But don’t act like Amare was a very talented individual, dude was a beast before the injuries.

    Period.

Nasg did not make Amare any better than he would just about anyone else, specially a pick and roll big.

Amare was a beast, with or without Nash.

Amare was well on his way to being a stud before Nash came back to the Suns. Remember he was running that pick and roll with Marbury and was still killing dudes in the paint. People love to give the credit to the Point guard on the pick and roll but the big man also deserves some credit for rolling the right way,or slipping the screen or setting a solid screen and also having the hands to catch any pass thrown at them and finishing. I truly feel even Blake Griffin is not on the level that a young Amare was on.Blake’s career Rebounding numbers are better and that’s about it. In both of their 3rd year in the league, both players played 80 games. Blake’s 3rd year numbers were 18 and 8.3 with 0.6 blocks. Amare’s 3rd year numbers were 26 and 9 with 1.6 blocks per. This is the number a 3rd year player straight from high school was putting up. Amare got to the line at a high rate back then. Attempting 10 Free throws a night and shooting 73% from the line compared to Griffin’s 8 attempts per game and 66% free throw shooting. Also Amare’s field goal % was slightly better. Amare’s post game wasn’t the best but it was getting better yearly.Had a few pivot moves and up and under moves not to mention his feet were really quick to go along with it. Amare was a problem and the whole league knew it. Anyone that doesn’t think so is Blind or living in denial.

i used to be a big amare fan… hes still one of my 4 favorite players but it makes me sad to see him so run down at this point in his career… hes always been a crap defender but he played with effort on both ends… used to be an amazing athlete and very good scorer… personally his peak was during the 2005 season…. when u hang 37 a game on the spurs in the WCF when ur only 22 years of age… how r u not destined to be a superstar… don’t think he reached his max cuz of injuries

because of nash? lame. even when he’s not much of a defender, he’s top notch on offense. and marion? he was at he’s peak when playing with nash, and playing with a system that suits his strengths. certainly getting old on another team wouldn’t help his production. you can say the same thing about nash that he also benefited playing with amare as he is one of the best finisher. he is explosive, once he get it, he kills it!
