FastAndFuriousParticipantI might get negged but F it!
How tha F does Russ West come back a few weeks after surgery and play like a Monster and D.Rose been healed for the longest KILL in pre-season and playing like SHIIIITTT!
Russ West a beast and I hope people really realize what that young man does for the Thunder, not just the numbers he puts up, the stuff that don’t make the stat sheet, KD is OBVIOUSLY a total different player when Russ is there, and the Thunder as a whole are a different looking team.
Glad my favorite PG is back!

CavFanPRParticipantYou got a thumbs up from me cause I agree with you. Rose is stinking it up. Westbrook > Rose.

Moon RiverParticipantThe fact that they injured their knees is the only thing those two injuries have in common.
D. Rose tore his ACl in his left knee which has a longer recover time. He took it easy, no doubt, but as he said from the beginning, he was not coming back until he felt the same as he did prior to the injury. I think it is expected he would have some rust after sitting out a year.
Westbrook tore the meniscus in his right knee which typically (in most circumstances) has a shorter recovery time than the ACL tear. Also, Westbrook had minor knee surgery a month ago when the doctors found a “loose stitch” in the knee. Not a terribly invasive procedure.

FastAndFuriousParticipantI agree Rose had a more serious injury but the dude was smoking in the Pre-Season, big numbers, its not like he was stinking it up in pre-season and then came to the real season and did the same and he had hella time to train and make sure he was 110%.
I still think D.Rose will have a monster year, but as of right now I don’t understand what’s going on with him, and even though Russ injury wasn’t as serious as Rose, he came back earlier than expected from having a surgery barely a month ago, wasn’t supposed to return initially until December, then they said 4-6 weeks and dude comes back for the third game and plays very well for someone who’s been out for a little minute no pre-season, no warm-up game, nothing.

Westbrook’s 2nd knee surgery wasn’t serious. They didn’t even have to touch the interior of his knee. His meniscus had healed 100%. All they had to do was remove a floating staple.
Westbrook was never on a 4-6 timeline recovery. He could’ve played in the season opener.

HobbyOGParticipantI agree Rose had a more serious injury, BUT also Rose game is built on completely speed. Russ is fast as well but his mid-range jumper is sick, he has mastered that elbow jumper! Rose has never been a good shooter. From what I’ve seen Rose has been out of control going to the basket and creating turnovers, teams are making him shot jumpers and he can’t shoot!

IndianaBasketballParticipantI think it’s dumb to compare them right now.
D. Rose suffered a torn ACL (and did damage to his meniscus) and that’s so much more devastating in the short term than a torn meniscus. The impacts of a torn ACL on a knee and the way it affects your lateral movements, etc are just scary. A torn meniscus doesn’t affect your lateral movements, speed, athleticism, etc in the short term. It’s not a mental injury that makes you completely lose trust in your leg. It’s more of an injury that impacts you in the long term as your knee starts to wear and tear quicker w/o that meniscus to cushion the knee. The surgery to repair an ACL is so much more invasive than a torn meniscus and requires total reconstruction knee surgery. There’s a reason the timetable for return is 9-12 months AND then they say it’s takes *another* year before you’re back to feeling like normal. A torn ACL is a two year injury and people don’t realize that.
I also think it’s important to look at this from a team chemistry perspective. D.Rose’s teammates have to totally get reacquainted with his game since he hadn’t been on the floor for an entire year. OKC hasn’t been w/o Russ for that long.
Russ is definitely a beast and I think ppl take him for granted, but I think it’s dumb to throw a shot at D. Rose just to make him look good or something. Both players are in completely different situations with their injuries and their teams.

FastAndFuriousParticipantI understand all that, but this is the same guy 2 weeks ago had consecutive games of 32,9,4/ 24,4,3/ 26,6,4
It’s not like he wasn’t balling, and yes the pre-season and season are a bit different but come on now, you don’t drop off that tough, this dude literally sucks right now, and as I stated I think D.Rose will have a monster season, it’s just something else wrong with him outside of the surgery, his mental mind frame is messed up, Westbrook had no pre-season, no nothing and played good as hell last night.
No shots at D.Rose thrown just weird to me.

druneave3ParticipantLike everyone has said you cannot compare the two. Completely different injuries.
It would have been nice if Rose listened to every doctor and every single player who has had the injury and take the next step in the rehab process, which is PLAY. I think some of these kinks would have been worked out at the end of the year last year. Some of the team chemistry issues would have been worked out as well. Some of the doubt and questioning would have been worked out. I think that is the biggest thing we are seeing right now, is that doubt and questioning which Rose had over a year to build up. His decision making has been dreadful, forcing the issue, questionable passing, and other mistakes that are mostly due to mental errors. These mental errors, doubt, and questioning all could have been worked out last year.

IndianaBasketballParticipantRuss could stink the next two or three games for all we know. And if he does, it shouldn’t surprise anyone. I mean, there are going to be ups and downs when a player has been out for awhile due to an injury.
To me, it’s no big deal. The NBA season is 82 games. 79 more to go. By the end of the season, these first 3 games won’t even be remembered.

torontoraptors10ParticipantI would take Rose OVER Westbrook ANY DAY OF THE WEEK!!!
Rose and Westbrook had different injuries. You can’t compare the two.
If Westbrook was traded to the Bulls for Rose (hypothetically speaking) the Thunder would be a MUCH better team.

ShekiruBoomParticipantANY DAY OF THE WEEK? how about today? Rose is averaging 14.3ppg and 4 apg while shooting 29% from field and 27% from 3. Now i prefer Drose over Westbrook as well but right now Rose is no match for Westbrook since hes struggling so bad and not because hes on the bulls but because he can’t score or assist or take care of the ball at this point.

tcrhs19ParticipantSo because he has had a couple of bad games you would take Westbrook over him…? Ill take the MVP over Westbrook all day, everyday.

ShekiruBoomParticipanti thought i said i prefer Rose over Westbrook? Its not like Rose is the best point guard in the league and Westbrook is the worst point guard in the league. They are both very good players so why do you insist on taking the one who has been struggling over the one who did well? It only makes sense to me to take the one who is actually doing well if I’m picking a game to play today. But as I said in the earlier post, when Rose returns to being DRose, I’ll take Rose over Westbrook too.

XYRYXParticipantI’m kind of iritated and a little upset that Russ status is compared to Derrick Roses here. I think we all agree that the injuries are are way different and should not be compared at all.
I was absolutely shocked to see his intruduction when I checked the the highlights!
After the blowout against the Wolves and the horrible offense really concerned me looking forward the next few weeks. I believe chemistry and and confidence is the key to this seasons success. To see Westbrook back should be like an explosion for his teammates and the whole team and coaching staff! I’m pretty sure when he is cleared to play there are no concerns about his status.
This was a statement game and to see him getting 21 and 7 after playing his first game was nothing less than impressive. There will be some ups and downs over the next weeks without training camp but I’m more than happy to see him back.
Kobe said last year Russ has a little mamba blood running through his veins and I think we saw today what he meant. Russ is stubborn and always Russ but he his a warrior always looking for a kill and that’s what I love about him, he takes everything personal and honestly who thought he would be a 24/7/5 All NBA 2nd player by now and one of the biggest attractions in the league!?
I’m a Thunder fan and biased here but if every NBA players would play with the same passion and attitude like him guys like Beasley or Blatche wouldn’t be there anymore or wouldn’t have gone so far without loving the game.
