Kevon Looney and Devin Booker make commitments

How does Looney at UCLA not seem like the right fit? His style can play anywhere because of how versatile he is and he’ll get minutes right off the bat.

Booker going to UK was inevitable but I don’t think it was the right choice for him. Booker’s a pure shooter and UK hardly even runs plays for shooters. They’re just outlets for drive and kicks.

Blackmon wants to run some point too bc of his size so that might give him pause as Ulis is a pure point and only a point, who projects to be more of a 3-4 yr guy.

Robinson is a great get for Florida and he’ll flourish in their ball screen heavy system. It’s a system that really benefits shooters and he’s one of the best shooters in the class.

I don’t think UCLA was a bad choice for Looney. First of all, Ben Howland is gone (thank god). UCLA is now a different program being ran by Steve Alford. The Wear brothers will be graduating, eliminating the Top 2 PF spots. Kyle Anderson who played a lot of 4 last year and still could this year already said he plans for leaving for the NBA after this year. Alford seems like a good coach from what his success at New Mexico and I also believe he was a great fit for that program which is great after how big of a mess last years team was, despite all the talent they had.

Someone said Looney as Kyle Anderson 2.0? I don’t follow that comparison. They aren’t remotely similar players.

Disagree that Booker is a pure shooter. He shot .337 from the field and .400 from 3 during the EYBL season. Whereas Blackmon shot .542 from the floor and .475 from 3 and he had more attempts than Booker. The main difference in these two players, other than shooting percentage, is that Blackmon can create off the dribble and Booker cannot. Blackmon’s 73 assists to 21 turnovers is a 3.5:1 ratio, where Booker had 48 assists and 52 turnovers for a little less than 1:1. Granted Booker has a reputation as being a shooter, but I would argue that this is more a function of his lack of other offensive skills. Obviously though, Booker has better size to play the wing going forward.
