TheLastWordParticipantTeam USA released measurements from the u19 roster (can be found on ‘that other site’). Right now he is the same size as Drummond but at 17 years old he is likely not even done growing.
Height w/shoes: 6’11”
Weight: 277 lbs
Wingspan: 7’6.25″
St. Reach: 9’3″0 - Posted on: Sun, 10/27/2013 - 2:47am #845618

canada2482ParticipantHe is huge and so skilled. I always wonder will he get into that peak condition that would really allow him to dominate. I read an article about dakari Johnson really toning up at Kentucky hope okafor can get to the same wherever he goes next fall bc if he does watch out!

MalcolmxParticipantI seen those Measurement on the other site and my jaw dropped. I know the kids in chicago have to be a bit scared when they match up with him. He is just huge. 9’3 standing reach means he barely has to jump to throw it down. Not to mention his footwork and counter moves are off the charts for a 17 year old. Like you stated if he can get into peak shape,WATCH OUT! He keeps getting these bad Ankle sprains though. He has had about 3 this year where he had to sit out major events. Hopefully this doesn’t become a constant problem.

phila9012ParticipantHe basically has demarcus cousins body right now. They look to have similar builds. He will probably become more toned, as in drop fat and add muscle. I see him as demarcus cousins without the attitude and more mature.

MalcolmxParticipantI know it’s early with him not even beginning his senior year of high school ball, but do you think he will have the same level of productivity in the league as cousins also?

HitsterParticipantCrazy wingspan for a guy who is still 2 years off being in the NBA and if he stays in shape he looks a legit monster. His college choice is his next big move and choosing the right place to best develop for a year will be a key choice for him.

The8thDeadlySinParticipantThere have been multiple people compared to the the greatest player of all time (Michael Jordan) but I have never seen a comparison for probably the most physically dominate player of all time (Shaq). Could this kid be the closest thing we have seen to Shaq?

lolNah, Shaq was not only huge (7’1 over 300 lbs with a 9’5 standing reach) but he was an athletic freak as well. He ran the floor like a PF, had the coordination of a SF and had a max reach near the top of the back board (12.5 ft). That is some freaky, freaky stuff and Jahlil doesn’t even compare athletically. Closest to Shaq both in terms of size and athleticism is probably Oden or Drummond, but neither of them are/were nearly as physically dominant as Shaq. Shaq was such a once in a lifetime physical marvel that nobody really stacks up to him.

The8thDeadlySinParticipantDakari is no where near Shaq.. Thats a horrible comparison..
Also, Okafor has some room to grow. I have never seen him play but people rave about him.

JunkYardDogParticipantI really wonder what would be the best destination for him to develop …
kansas has always developped big men (lafrentz, pollard, gooden, collison, aldrich, withey) but not really “stars”… Embiid is maybe a one and done but nothing sure. The team is competitive and recruits hard.
georgetown has a nice history and recently gave the nba some interesting centers (hibbert, monroe, sims should become a solid back up) but the team is not really competitive
kentucky ? I’m fed up with all those 1 and doners in kentucky but theyy are competitive and got some big men (johnson, lee, WCS, cousins…)
… if you recruit Okafor does it mean you get tyus Jones too ?…

SiggyParticipantI think it’s pretty much 99% guaranteed that Okafor and Jones play together, which should eliminate Kentucky.
G’Town’s not on either guy’s short list so I think it’s down to Kansas and Duke, with Duke having the edge. Baylor’s also on both lists, but I suspect their best attribute is paying players under the table since Drew sucks at developing and coaching in general. Either KU or Duke would be a great program to develop, even if it’s just for a yr. Self and Coach K are two of the best teachers in the game.0 - Posted on: Sun, 10/27/2013 - 10:51am #845788

Chitown Finest2ParticipantI been following this kid all 4yrs of high school and so far He’s reminding me of the #4 pick Eddy Curry not the out of shape buffet eating Curry… But the one that made him a All American and top 5 pick. they both Dominated the High school level at a similar size and build and had tremendous foot work with a soft touch around the rim also with the ability to throw down monster Shaq like dunks…. But there is also a kid here Cliff Alexander and he exposes Okafor weaknesses in the match ups I seen here in Chicago. being just as agressive and athletic, Okafor has below average speed end to end and he shows no athletic ability what so ever and scores more so with length. Seems to not be able to keep on the killer instinct light switch when playing against similar guys. He’s solid so far and to early to day he has Star potential but He’s a solid Center Prospect and will go a long way if he get in top shape.

HitsterParticipantShaq was a one off for size and athleticism, Greg Oden was always compared to David Robinson when he was in college.

SiggyParticipantMeh. I never saw the Oden/Robinson comparison either. Young Robinson ran the floor like a guard (was actually a late growing big who spent the majority of his development as a guard) and was much more of a speed, quickness, face up 7 footer with more of a finesse game. Oden was more about size, brute strength and positioning.
