Bold Prediction- John Wall will be a top 5 PG this year

I believe that this is the year John Wall will establish himself as a top 5 PG in the league. He has looked great in the preseason (yes, I know its the preseason), and having a great shooter and much improved Brad Beal helps substantially as well, in terms of Wall’s assist numbers. Wall’s jumpshot has also improved every year and is beginning to become a pretty descent shooter. I believe that Wall will be an all-star this year. What do you guys think?

I don’t know if he will be a top 5 point guard since there are so many legit point guards, but I do agree he will make a significant jump. I don’t mind if he shoots 42%, Westbrook does it and gets by just fine. John Wall is a naturally better passer than Westbrook, I think he’s going to average around 19 points, 9 assists, 4 rebounds, 1 block, and a 1.5 steals. With Beal averaging around 20. That will improve the team and make Wall a point guard, if he puts up those numbers, they will be arguably be better all around stats than every point guard besides Chris Paul and maybe Deron Williams and Westbrook, so why not be top 5.
He won’t outscore Kyrie, Tony, Stephen, Westbrook, Lilliard and D. Rose, but he will have more assists.
He won’t out pass, Rondo, Paul, and maybe Rubio.
He will be one of the top point guard rebounders, and definitely one of the top point guard defenders.
Depending on how you rate your point guards, he could be top 5.
He had the 6th highest PER last year at 20.91. Yes Derrick Rose was injured, so that’ a spot you have to account for.
Behind
1. Chris Paul- 26.43
2. Russell Westbrook- 23.98
3.Tony Parker- 23.10
4. Kyrie Irving- 21.51
5. Stephen Curry- 21.34
So he doesn’t have that far to go, he averaged 18.5 points, 4 rebounds, 7.6 assists, 0.8 blocks, and 1.3 steals while shooting 44%
If he improves slightly, he’s arguably top 5. It’ll probably be out of John Wall, Kyrie Irving, and Stephen Curry fighting for the final top 5 spot.
Now the other 2 come with more fanfare and fans than he does, but if he goes to the playoff, he could steal some of those fans with his electric performance. We all know player rankings are partly a popularity contest.
I like it, it sort of bold.

I would say more of a top 8 pg. If his shot improves that he could be in the discussion as a top 5 pg, we will see. He also has gotta cut down on turnovers..

He’s shooting 36% from the floor 14% on 3’s and is turning the ball nearly 4 times a game in less than 29 minutes. I’m not saying he hasn’t improved, but if you’re really watching him play in the preseason, where have you seen the improvement?

    Well, it must matter to the OP, who brought it up as Wall’s supposed “great play” is one of the reasons for optimism.

It’s not all that bold. Three of the best PG’s in the NBA are coming off pretty big surgeries (Westbrook, Rose, Rondo), one is injury prone (Curry) and when Wall hit his groove last season he was balling. I don’t think he’ll be a top 5 lock but some will probably make an argument for him.
