Skeating12345ParticipantAs a lot of us saw against the Magic in the preseason, Waiters has really gotten himself into shape and looks much more quick and explosive. I think he’s going to have a great year this year. I can see him averaging around 16-18 this year with much more efficient shooting numbers, and around 4 rebounds and 3-4 assists. What do you guys think?

rfarrell85ParticipantHe definitely looked more explosive and looked to take it to the rim which is his strong suit. His shot looked better because he went straight up instead of fading away like he did so often last season. As long as he attacks more and doesn’t force shots he will have a solid year. I’d be happy with him scoring 15-17 as long as he’s efficient. His scoring also depends on how well or poorly Bennett does.

machu46ParticipantIt’s always been about whether or not he looks to penetrate first and whether or not he puts in the effort defensively. Even at Syracuse, when he did those two things, he was one of the best guards in the nation. When he didn’t (which happened far too often), he actually hurt the team.
If he finally learns to attack first and only shoot the jumpshot if he’s left open and finally plays defense on a consistent basis, he will be a very good guard in the NBA.
I’m personally still skeptical because I’ve seen these stretches from him in his time at Syracuse where it looked like he really understood his own game, only to revert back to being a jumpshooter and lackadaisical defensive player for the following 5+ games.

I disagree;
He was 18/19 of course he didn’t understand his game. He was never highly rated until his astronomical climb his sophmore year after which he went from fighting for minutes in college to starting in the nba unleashed. It seems like he is beginning to understand what he can do.
He played limited minutes and was always looking to attack at cuse. Most of his 3 attempts were on spot ups, not pull ups or his own action.

I see two improvements in Dion, First he has had tremendous improvement athletically. I could never thought I would see him dunking in traffic with 2 hands so easily. He was rarely dunking as a freshman.
Second the mechanics on his jumpshot are much smoother. He had a complicated motion now its much smoother without the hitches.

MkadozaParticipantHe’ll play as well as his conditioning allows. If his work in the gym can keep him attacking the basket for a full 30+ minutes, you’re going to see serious strides in consistency, even if he wasn’t quicker and more explosive.

JoeWolf1I don’t think his assists will be that high unless Irving gets hurt again. His assist numbers went up sharply when Irving went down and he had to play the point in stretches.
I think he’ll still be around 2.5 apg but his shooting percentages will be higher, and as a result I think he gets a bump in ppg. Maybe 16 ppg on 43% shooting…This big question to me is if he’s worked on his long range game.
