I’m very impressed with him tonight. He’s been destroying Andrew Nicholson at both ends. I’m really impressed with his soft touch, great feet, strength and motor. He was playing hungry tonight.

He still needs to lose some weight and work on his endurance, but I think this guy is going to be a stud. I can definitely see the Larry Johnson comparisons, even thought he’s not that type of athlete.

I’ve also been impressed with Victor Oladipo. Seeing how much he’s improved already is nuts.

He played like 4 good minutes where he made a bunch of jumpers. The rest of the time he didn’t look good at all.

I barely noticed he was out there….someone who really looked good was Dion Waiters

Dion looks leaner and more explosive. That should help him finish better.

I also like what I saw out of Karasev. He can really shoot it and he can run screen roll in either direction. Nice passer.

But just to reiterate, up until about 5 minutes left in the game Bennett was 0 for 5 with 2 pts 4 boards and 5 fouls. He caught fire at the end making it appear as though he actually had a good overall game. Physically he looks sloppy, which makes no sense since he had a shoulder injury, not a lower body injury. He’s in poor condition, looked rusty and clueless doing big man things like setting screens and boxing out. I think he got 3 fouls from setting bad screens.

The last five minutes of the first quarter he had a series of good plays in a row. First he pinned his man in the corner with nowhere to go ( the ref bailed out the Magic player by calling Bennett for a bump). On the next defensive series he manned up Vucevic in the post, held his position and forced a tough shot. Then he picked up Affalo on a broken play and although Affalo made the shot, not many rookies would have even realized that was their man to cover. On the next play he collapsed into the paint on a drive and forced a jump ball. And finally he was about to throw down a monster dunk but Vucevic made a punk play and shoved him in mid air, so he drew a flagrant one instead of the highlight finish.

That’s a pretty impressive few minutes for a guy coming off injury in his second ever NBA game. I’m not saying I disagree with you about his conditioning or his inability to make what should be some simple plays ( screens and such), but to say he just made some jumpers and thats all, is ignoring some really positive things he showed.

You saw what I saw. I also thought he had a few very good defensive possessions against Nicholson.

Obviously, he needs to work on his conditioning and I’m not excusing the fact he’s out of shape when he had a shoulder injury. Hopefully, he isn’t one of those guys who struggles with his weight his whole career. He did have a few illegal screens, but he can and will improve there.

Looking at the positives though… I was impressed with him and I think he’ll grow into a very good player.

Anthony Bennett has a lot of work he has to do on his game. At this point… I am taking Nicholson over Bennett

I find it ironic that you have a picture of that says, “Toronto,” and you bash a guy who is from the Toronto area.

Dion definitely looks to have some new pep in his step.

Bennett is obviously out of shape but when he gets back into shape he will get his explosion back. I like how he stuck with it even though he was having a quiet game he continued to try and do things and it worked out.

Don’t forget about Felix, he didn’t blow me away with his ability but he’s a hardworker, intelligent and isn’t a bad defender. Bennett needs to work on his conditioning for sure and his overall awareness is pretty poor, like Siggy mentioned he looked lost at times and it’s no exaggeration that he was non-existent in the first half. Perhaps time will iron out these issues but as a Cavs fan I won’t ignore these problems and they concern me greatly going forward, I can imagine Bennett will shoot us out of games because he thinks he belongs on the perimeter. Karasev is only 19 but he’s a pro, solid passer, great off-ball and has a delicate touch. A welcome shooter off the bench, much needed. Kadji got bullied by Vucevic, it was painful to watch, he’s a defensive loop-hole which contradicts Brown’s philosophy, could be D-League-bound.

The big story here is Waiters getting in shape, he’s faster and more explosive than he was last season while retaining his strength and defensively he looked more interested. I wasn’t a huge believer in his rookie season but he looked pretty legitimate out there last night.

Anthony Bennett is a naturally large guy and his injury will have affected his conditioning but with a solid pre-season behind him, he’ll look in better shape. Coach Brown won’t overplay him as he adjusts to the NBA plus he can work with the other guys and the training staff and get to an agreed playing weight.

He looked useful from what I saw the other night but you expect that from a number 1 pick. I hope he doesn’t just become a perimeter player even if he does play more as an SF as he has the game to go inside when needed.

Waiters certainly looks sharper this year but again we’d expect that as he is now used to the NBA and knows how to play a full season and get himself into prime condition with the Cavs trainers and coaches assisting him.

Cant wait to see him in when he’s conditioned and replaces the fat with muscle.
I want to see how much he improves as the season progresses, stats after the all-star break should be a good indicator.

It’s too late now, but could the Cavs have worked out a 3 guard rotation of Irving, Waiters, and Oladipo? They could have even played small ball with those three on the perimeter then TT and a big (Andy/Bynum/Tyler Zeller) at center.

So far in Summer League and the Preseason,Oladipo has looked great..Those comparisions to a young Dwayne Wade don’t look so far fetched right now…….I’m interesting in seeing how he performs around the All Star Break….After teams have scouted him, seen his strengths & weakness and set their defenses toward stopping him…….

Oladipo will be starting sooner rather than later I reckon and could well be the front runner for Rookie of the Year. On a lighter note, he looks a bit of a stats filler for Fantasy League purposes so might be a good pick up for anyone there.
