RakkiParticipantJazz made a mistake not taking him.

OldSkoolBasketballParticipantPortland played Lillard and Maynor together a lot last season and Lillard thrive when he was off ball, I’m assuming its going to be better with McCollum being the better shooter than Maynor.

Tongue-Out-Like-23ParticipantQuestion on McCollum, how do you guys think Lillard and McCollum will fit together? Anybody think the lack of a true point-guard might hurt Portland?

PhogifyParticipantBy assembling a strong bench. They had the worst bench in the league last year, and have really been doing things in the offseason to improve their 2nd unit. I doubt McCollum will be with the Blazers for his whole career, because one day he is going to be a starter worthy player. Seems like an okay fit for the Blazers, but for McCollum, individually, there were probably better destinations for him. McCollum will see time at the 1 and 2 in his first season, I don’t see him ever being a starting SG for the Blazers.

flopdownDLillard and CJ will fit in just fine, they are both really good shooters off the catch and shoot.
Here is me last year, 7 games into the college season:—– http://nbadraft.net/forum/cj-mccollum-breaks-scoring-record —-
“”Imagine if somehow the Blazers can draft CJ and form a backcourt starting Lillard and McCollum…. that would be straight scary and as a GM i wouldn’t skip on that duo.””

Striver347ParticipantI somehow doubt the lack of a “true Point Guard” will effect the team’s productivity substantially. Besides, how many contenders have a “true Point Guard”? Many fail to realize Eric Maynor’s presence improved Damian’s quality of play, particularly in the 35 point game (a turnoverless game for Damian.) In any case, CJ is crafty and I’m sure he’ll make for a strong backup guard for the Blazers.

qDizzle32ParticipantI always predicted that CJ McCollum would be a better NBA player than Trey Burke.

GottaBeTheShoesParticipantWhoa whoa whoa… Let’s calm down.. I too thought Mccollum was going to be the better player, but let’s not start counting out Burke just because he played poorly in the SL. Because of his lack of size and his normal style of play, I expected him to take longer to transition as quickly.

ThepessimestParticipantPlaying small does not hurt teams as much. In the old days where there was no zone a bigger 2 would take McCollum down on the block and beat him up. Now you can play small because you can zone up the strong side on defense. So it doesn’t matter as much anymore.
Plus the only 2’s who really post are Kobe and Wade. Most other 2’s aren’t great on the block so that also means it won’t matter.

jjbutler73ParticipantHow did the Jazz make a mistake when he wasn’t available when they picked?

JoeWolf1Exactly, who is to say that they would have been able to work out a trade with the Wolves with McCollum involved. As a Jazz fan, hindsight is pretty mute when it comes to drafting a guy who was off the board before you picked because trades are so tempermental.

jjbutler73Participantthat post has a plus 7 when it wasn’t even possible. Obviously people just give thumbs up or down based on who they like, not the post.

vulture711ParticipantMost of the 4 year guys look better in the summer – CJ, Olynyk, Reggie Bullock
Not sure it’ll be that over a few years – they are just more ready to play now

bjcart53ParticipantI know it is really early but I got a lot of negs for saying I thought he was clearly a better player than trey burke
