PhogifyParticipantI really hope that he does. He was a Summer League co-MVP with Lillard last year I believe. Selby was considered the number one player in his high school class by Rivals(over Kyrie Irving). He was amazing through his first few games at KU and then struggled the rest of the way with injuries and left after 1 season(probably a huge mistake). His potential is through the roof and the Lakers have found a way to get cheap talent in the past. I’ll be rooting for Selby’s success. I know he’s considered a bust in comparison to what he was supposed to be coming out of high school and I hope that the Lakers don’t give up on him.

high floorParticipantHard to be labeled a bust when you’re the 49th pick… No matter how bad you show

PhogifyParticipantHe was rated the #1 player coming out of high school by many rankings and was at least top 5 in all of them.

JoeWolf1Slim, but D’Antioni’s system could benefit his style so I think his chances are better in LA than they would be anywhere else.

SiggyParticipantHe’d have to be brought on as an undersized 2. They already have 3 PGs under contract. It goes to show just how meaningless summer league production can be. He torched the summer league last yr only to be glued to the bench when the reg season came around.

BothTeamsPlayedHardParticipantOn a team where Nash needs the ball and where Kobe and Pau are primary options to score or generate offense, the bottom half of the roster guys need to be able to play off them. Nick Young is never going to pass the ball, but he doesn’t necessarily have to get it if he is standing on the wing or corner.
Given that Robert Sacre is the only guy on the Lakers summer league roster who the team has an investment in (obviously Kelly is injured), it is a good opportunity for other guys to step out and catch an eye. It isn’t just Selby. Lester Hudson has always been a similar kind of guy to Selby, and he is on the summer roster as well. I think Marcus Landry is interesting given that he was 43 percent from behind the arc in the NBDL last year. He might be a better fit as someone who might be able to be the 13-15th man on the roster. Elias Harris or Jordan Williams might be guys who can impress in this environment with their potential to put up double-doubles in lesser minute loads. Michael Snaer is a good athlete and defender. They look as though they have a few candidates for guys who can be training camp invites and maybe stay stashed on the NBDL roster until injuries mount and the 10-day contract part of the season begins.

ditotayParticipanthe could be a nice back up to Nash. Shelby showed good athleticism and a willingness to defend his position. As a third guard or as the primary back up, I think the Lakers could use a player like Shelby. Let’s see what happen.

jjbutler73ParticipantThey may resign Morris who can play the point too. Selby has zero chance. Maybe he can impress another team though.
