Thoughts on Jahlil Okafor

For those of you that have seen plenty of Jahlil Okafor, what are yall’s thoughts on him? The only game I’ve seen him in was the semifinal U19 game against Lithuania a couple days ago and I was extremely impressed. He has great touch in the post and has some of the best hands I’ve ever seen from a big man. I truly hope he opens the door for the true back-to-basket center to make a return in the league again.
What are your expectations for him?

i agree with your comments he reminds me of jared sullinger alittle sullinger shoots it better from outside but okafor has more potential overall as a pro prospect..

  This after being named all tourney team as a 17 y/o playing in the U19s and putting up an over 40 PER for Team USA.
  I’ll give him a mulligan. Winslow didn’t play today, so Okafor’s the only one to make the trek from the U19s overseas to the Peach Jam.
  In any case, he’s got great hands, sick footwork, balance, soft touch, has multiple counters and patience in the post. He’s also expanding his range, looking comfortable from 15 ft on out. He looked a lot better handling doubles for Team USA. Needs to do a better job making his imprint defensively though.
  He’s bigger, longer and more agile than Sullinger so I don’t think he’ll have the same disadvantages that Sully has.

He reminds me of Sullinger, but Okafor is taller and a little more athletic. Sullinger has a better outside shot.

He can dominate with ease in the paint, both with his body and his skill set. It has been a while since I saw something like this. But he has to be trained well and get more muscular for college, I believe his body fat will be quite high. And he hasn’t got very broad shoulders, either, but this will not be a problem because he already is 270 pounds. Anyway, he is the best big man I’ve seen since Oden, though totally different from each other.

I see Al Jefferson/Andrew Bynum. He has Jefferson’s post skills and Bynum’s size.

  That’s a fair comparison. I think he’s closer to Al Jefferson’s size than Bynum’s. Bynum has a mammoth wingspan, something like 7’6, close to a 9’5 standing reach, which makes it nearly impossible to contest his jump hooks well.
  Hopefully Jahlil has a greater impact on his future team than Al Jeff. Al’s got great skills in the post but he doesn’t use em enough to create easier scoring opportunities for his teammates. He’s not much of a post passer at all. Jahlil at least has shown better patience in the post, passing out of doubles than last yr.

    He was measured at the 2011 Lebron James skills academy at 6’10 w/shoes 272lbs and a 7’3″ wingspan. That was 2 years ago so I would imagine he has gotten a little bit bigger.

      I’m in Chicago and have watched him live multiple times. Unless he’s grown since the season ended, he still looks around 6’10. He was listed as 6’10 this yr by Team USA too.
