Best/Worst GM of the offseason (7/10)

Yeh if Atlanta let Teague sign with the Bucks and they get Ellis would be a terrible mistake. They need a centre, why don’t they at least go after Dalembert ? He won’t cost much….

They also got nothing back for Josh Smith.

Restricted free agent Jeff Teague plans to sign a four-year, $32 million-plus offer sheet with the Bucks.
Once it is signed, the Hawks will have three days to match. The trade winds have been swirling around a Teague-Brandon Jennings deal and this may be enough interest to facilitate that deal. Teague’s offer sheet isn’t too much above the qualifying offer of $3.5 million, so it’s reasonable that the Hawks match the offer.

Best GMs this offseason:

Christ Grant, Cavs- Loading the team with young talent and putting them in a position to make the playoffs, acquiring one of the best, if not the best, backup PG in the league, and getting Andrew Bynum for a great contract that still allows them to be flexible.

Gary Sacks, Clippers- Getting Doc Rivers, who I think is the best coach in the league, retaining Chris Paul, acquiring shooters, and keeping the bench stacked. (not sure if he was the mastermind behind all these moves, but the Clippers have done a great job)

Flip Saunders, Timberwolves and Neil Olshey, Trail Blazers-Both these guys loaded up really weak benches and have their teams in position to fight for the playoffs. Both teams would easily make the playoffs if they were in the east.

Danny Ferry, Hawks-I agree with you 100%, AC68Outlaw. The Hawks were stuck in the middle of the eastern conference and when Ferry came in it seemed like he had a plan to get worse to get better. He’s put them right back where they started and they’re locked into the team they have now. Just doesn’t make sense.

Don Nelson, Mavericks-They assumed they’d get a top free agent and struck out. Then they settled for long-term contracts with aging guys. Also they gave up several assets to move BACK a few spots in the draft and got a guy who’s now the third or fourth PG on the depth chart.

I don’t think you guys realize that there is a salary cap floor, and GM’s must spend a certain amount of money. I think it is 85 or 90 percent of the cap which is 58 million. Danny Ferry was going all in on Dwight and Chris Paul, swung and missed on both of them so he has to fill up the cap floor with these horrible contracts. Haven’t you noticed Mark Cuban does this every season?

I think we are too quick to rip these GM’s, but their hands are tied in a lots of cases and they are only following NBA and CBA rules.

Is it just me, or does a Dennis Schoder-John Jenkins-2014 draft pick-Al Horford-Lucas Nogueira line-up look like the worst line-up in the entire league? Only one of those players has any proven production. That team would put them in place for a high pick in the 2015 draft, but I don’t disagree entirely with making some moves to improve the team, such as signing Millsaps to a short, relatively cheap deal and re-signing a proven shooting specialist in Korver, rather than taking a chance with a late first rounder.

The Hawks are in position to build something nice in a few years, with smart draft picks and signings from here on out. Maybe Millsap doesn’t allow Horford to move to center, but he is a better player than anyone else the Hawks could have signed for his money. Nogueira may not even come over until after Millsap’s contract expires.
