CavFanPRParticipantThey aren’t going nowhere with the roster they have now and there are still quite a few decent free agents left. If they amnesty Gasol, they could go after a couple decent role players to start the rebuild. Gasol is expiring anyway and he can just leave the lakers after next season. I doubt they can get anything in return for him unless they give up on a few future firsts, which is not a good idea considering they’ll probably go through a rebuild soon.

CynthiaParticipantI heard they’re much more likely to amnesty World Peace than Gasol.

Mad MaxParticipantNo, it would be pointless. Just hold on to him, if you can move him during the season for a draft pick or a good young player that’s great. If not, he’ll come off the books along with everyone else, and the Lakers will be have a ton of cap space to start over, which is better than being stuck with medicore players for a few years. At this point, the Lakers are heading to completely blowing up the roster after this season, so no need to sign players to a 2-3 year deal. Plus, nobody that great is out there.

phwillParticipantI think Pau would be a nice trade target at the deadline. Lakers should be able to get some picks or young assets in return. Amnesty MWP, let Kobe take his time to heal and have the insurance co. pick up the tab on some of his last year.

PurpleMonkeyDishwasherParticipantThe Lakers need Gasol as their center right now. The Lakers won’t accept winning 20 games and tanking it the way small market teams often do. The Lakers will rebuild on the fly in the next couple seasons and Dwight Howard will no longer be a story in L.A..

jjbutler73ParticipantThey can amnesty anyone, they are still over the luxury limit and can’t sign FA’s anyways. They have $100 million tied up, amnesty of Gasol only drops them to $80 million, World Peace to $90 million. Why pay somebody to sit home when you can’t sign a replacement?

4thewinParticipantYour Numbers are Way Off, the Lakers current salaries add up to 77.3 Million for this year at this stage.
Amnestying Gasol would take it down to 58.1 Million.http://hoopshype.com/salaries/la_lakers.htm

aivsdirkParticipanthell no.
Gasol, when getting the minutes as the full time starter is offensively the most skilled big man in the league. His defense is also above average when defending that position. In my opinion if the lakers played him exclusively at the center his whole tenure there he is the best center in the league. Plus if they keep him at center they win around 5 more games just by way of him being able to make free throws at the end of games. If they let him go how is kobe going to make any more runs at the championship before the him & the rest of the vets retire? Agree with purplemonkey. Lakers aint with that follow the leader and tank stuff. Thats why their organization is elite.0 - Posted on: Sun, 07/07/2013 - 11:09am #816259

CynthiaParticipant@PG
Earl Clark signed with the Cavs. If I was LA I would have tried my best to hold on to him.

ProudGrandpaParticipantNah. They wouldn’t just throw everything in the tank now. They’ve only had one year of the Kobe-Nash-Gasol experiment and that year was tarnished by Dwight Howard issues and coaching issues. And they still got an 8 seed. I think they definitely can make some noise in the West this year with those three guys and a handful of other solid young guys (Jordan Hill, Earl Clark, Jodie Meeks, Ryan Kelly). They’re not giving up on a championship with Kobe just yet.

aivsdirkParticipantearl clark with cavs now, so their holes and lack of depth at the power forward are even more open now.

ph90702I don’t see why Kobe Bryant isn’t tradeable at this point. He’s 35, and he’s not leading the Lakers to another championship.

laarethekingsParticipantKobe isn’t tradeable because he’s making 30 million bucks, is coming off a bad injury and let’s not forget he has a no trade clause in his contract.

ph90702The point is that he’s not leading the Lakers to another championship. They should try to get something. Nobody on the Lakers should be immune from trade. That’s what I’m saying.

TallmanNYCParticipantNo that is stupid because even if they want to get rid of him they can just give him to another team. Plenty of teams under the cap will take him if they don’t have to give anything back. You don’t have to amnesty him, you just have to call Dallas, the Spurs, Houston, etc. and ask if they would like a free former All Star. (I’m not sure if those teams are all still under the cap, but they certainly were and at least Dallas and Houston could be again if a “free Gasol” was offered them.)
