DolanCareParticipantI was never a big Gobert fan, he just seemed slow and constantly coughed up the ball. But in this summer league game vs. the Heat he’s showing some signs of being a mobile big. More so than Roy Hibbert when he came out of Georgetown.
If Gobert dedicates himself on working on his footwork and post scoring, he could be the steal of this draft. I’m kinda sorta jumping on the Gobert bandwagon.

CodySLCParticipantI agree. He’s getting up and down the court with ease. He’s also blocking and changing alot of shots with his 9″7 reach. This guy could turn out to be something in the league.

Sewok15ParticipantI am surprised he didn’t go a little higher in the draft considering he was so tall and long and could move pretty well. Most of the scouting reports I saw on him said he wasn’t a stiff but was just incredibly raw offensively…usually guys like that go higher though (Biyombo comes to mind).

DoubleNickelsDurr55Participant…..you have hasheem thabeet who is same size but so stiff, then you have Rudy who clearly is mobile and utilizes his size. You see it throughout the NBA though really.
Good for Rudy though, this league is lacking legitament centers.

JunkYardDogParticipantwell… I talked about him lots of times to defend him against this supposed “mobility issue” that raised before the draft. Don’t know where it came from but it was kinda absurd if you had already watch him play (I’m french so it’s easier to me).
Not the best athlete on the court but he doesn’t lack mobility… only explosivity and lateral quickness at times. But it’s usual for young big men, especially his height. Gobert is a pro, so it’s also easier to “dominate” summer league games only with his experience and anticipation.
Some good signs in his P&R defense… which is important in the nba nowadays.

HitsterParticipantI had Rudy at 13 on my mock which was a bit high now but I thought one team would have snapped him up higher. I wondered whether the Spurs were sat there thinking I hope he falls to us. I think if Gobert had played in the NCAA then he’d have been a top 20 pick at least.
He can almost be allowed to develop at the Jazz as they will finally give Kanter and Favours major minutes with Biedrins to back them up.
Gobert is a much slimmer build than Roy Hibbert was when he was drafted and has much better mobility at a similar stage. Gobert’s main value will be on defence so any offence and extra mobility is a basic bonus.

JunkYardDogParticipantgobert shows some good fundamentals in D as expected… great help D, solid boxing out.
in O : good high post work to create P&R play with burke

B-ball fanParticipantI was really impressed with Gobert’s motor. Nice hustle out there, which makes up for his lack of great quickness. He did get blown by on the PnR a couple times, but overall he was solid. He definitely knows his role on the court, which helps. He definitely could become an impact defender if he maximizes his athleticism and develops his defensive instincts.

rwd5035ParticipantI was okay with the way Gobert played. I loved his running of the floor, overall energy and shot blocking. However, he should’ve been able to rip down more than 4 rebounds and he had almost no confidence in his offensive game. Quite a few times he got in great positions and missed a shot, then he looked like he was afraid to shoot for the most part and was playing hot potato with the ball.
I see the potential but he’s got a lot of work to do.

Puregreen5ParticipantHe looks like the second coming of Shawn Bradley. He could get some min. right away, with Kanter recovering from his shoulder injury. Great shot blocker for the Jazz, plus he gets to train with Karl Malone now.

Forte IVParticipantI don’t get why he dropped to 27 honestly. That wingspan of his will make him have a career.

JNixonParticipantGobert is REAL tall and REAL long. Like, so much so that he is a presence no matter how raw or skinny he is defensively.

Mr. 19134ParticipantExactly what I was saying before the draft. His length and height are just outrageous. I like the people who said things like he can’t jump…this may be true but he can dunk on his tippy toes so what’s the difference.
Also Gobert isn’t as skinny as people made him out to be he’s clearly gained weight and looks like he’s almost a solid 250.
The Jazz got a steal I wanted him to go to a team that needed a C.

Sewok15ParticipantBefore the draft I said best case scenario he will be like a Javale McGee and I am sticking with that after watching him today. That isn’t bad at all though for the 27th pick in a supposedly “weak” draft. He could end up being a better project center than Steven Adams who went 15 spots before him. He doesn’t have the physicality of Adams but he could more than make up for it with his great length.

JoeWolf1I think Gobert is going to resemble a Shawn Bradley type player, which is really no slight. Gobert has the ability to be an elite shot blocker in this league and a guy who can cover most of the paint virtually standing still, if he’s a good student and gets down his defensive footwork he could be a really formidable guy.
He’s not ready to contribute much offensively, but I think he can be a starting caliber center in this league. Shawn Bradley was the butt of a lot of jokes, but he finished in the top 5 in blocks 8 seasons during his career and was a guy who spent most of his carreer as a starter or 20 + mpg reserve.
Gobert is a little younger and more raw and he’ll take a couple years to hit his stride, but Rudy has some real value in the NBA because of that insane length and the fact he can move a little.
