To hell with dwight he is a liability on offense
If Dwight’s gone and Kobe’s going to miss a significant amount of time next season, I’d run everything through Pau and then try to move him and his expiring contract at the trade deadline, and make out well enough in the stocked 2014 Draft to build going forward. While the Lakers are kind of up against it this season in terms of flexibility, Nash is the only player currently on the roster who is under contract through 2014-15. So if they wanted to, they could significantly remake their franchise.

    No center in the league right now is nearly as good as Shaq was. He was a dominant force that we won’t see the likes of for quite some time. Howard was 2nd in the league in field goal % so he makes up for his inability to make free throws. He draws a ton of fouls on opposing big guys so although he only shot around 50% it is still a valuable play to get to the line. It can kill you at the end of games but that is why teams go to guards to get buckets at the end of games and not inside.
    Only Tim Duncan, Kevin Durant, LeBron James, DWade, Tony Parker, David Lee, Brook Lopez, Blake Griffin and Al Horford shot at least 50 % from the field and averaged at least 17 points per game. That is 10 guys that played with that type of efficiency and Dwight still made that list in a “down” year.

As a Lakers fan I’ve done a lot of thinking on this. If Howard walks the Lakers should blow it up for the summer of 2014. We all know the Lakers were the most top heavy teams on talent in the league with top 4 big dogs Kobe, Howard, Pau and Nash. But players 5-12 could be the worst in the league. So If Howard walks most likely the Lakers will not make the Playoffs and if your not going to make playoffs no reason to pay the tax that comes with paying the players we have.
My steps if Howard walks would be to.
1. Trade Pau. And the only thing I’m looking for is draft picks or young players that I think will grow with the new Lakers. And I wouldn’t be looking for market value. Just anything in return that could help down the road.
2. If I can’t trade Pau then Amnesty him. It would save the Lakers something like 50 million in the tax. The window to amnesty someone is 5 days I think stars July 11th which is why I’d not be looking for market value in a trade. Very little time to work with.
3. If I trade Pau then Amnesty MWP. If Amnesty Pau then look to trade MWP to someone again maybe a late round pick or a young player.
4. Keep Kobe off the floor till the last 25 games of the season. So he can work his way back for the 2014-15 season.
Reasons I would do this is because that would give most likely a top 5 pick. In a very deep draft. And save the Lakers a lot of money for the up coming season. In the summer of 2014 the Lakers would have Nash and a top 5 pick on the roster and 50 yes… 50 MILLION in cap space to sign whatever free agent that would want to be a Laker.

They should trade him to the Clippers for Blake Griffin and draft picks. Blake is younger, more marketable
and more fun to watch.
I think he and Pau would be great together too. A better big man combo. Kobe could give those guys one more playoffs (or two)
to contend and then Blake would be the featured superstar after that. Blake seems really cool to play with.
I think fans would also like to see some Nash-Blake hookups.
This trade makes too much sense for the Lakers so it might not happen.

The Lakers should do everything they can not to help the Clippers so while adding Griffin when you would lose Dwight for nothing could look smart I don’t think it would be the best move.
