The Kings now have 6 guards on their roster, one of which is a RFA (tyreke), there is no way they should look to start the season with all of them still on the team. My question is what do you do, who do you keep, and do you use the others as trade bait for a Forward?

    Kings current roster depth chart:

    Pg: Thomas, Jimmer, Ray
    SG: Evans, Thornton, McLemore
    Sf: Travis Outlaw, John Salmons
Pf: Patrick Patterson, Jason Thompson, Hayes
    C: Cousins

Evans is probably on his way out. Thomas isn’t the long term answer at the point so I don’t get why they passed on Burke. I guess they where extremely high on McLemore but Burke upgrades the pg spot and allows them to keep Evans. They need to sign a veteran pg like Mo Williams if they wanna make a push for the playoffs this year.

According to the new GM the Kings picked up McLemore because they felt that you need to take the best player availible when drafting for a team like the Kings, he said that throughout this draft process they felt Ben was the best player in the draft and the rumors of them trying to trade down for him were true. Im still not sure this mean Evans needs to go, he and McLemore do have the potential to complement each other well in the back court with some proper direction from the new coach.

Issue with Burke-Evans backcourt is that both will need the ball. IF they keep Evans, the McLemore/Thornton and Thomas/McCulum can play off him and still be effective. This is what they wanted with Jimmer, he just didn’t pan out and didn’t shoot very well. Its a stretch going with a 3 guard lineup, but its worth a try if Evans doesn’t sign a near max deal.

I kind of wanted Evans to come to the Hawks, but unless its a near max contract, I think Sacramento will match any offer. Also being that McLemore is a great shooter, I can see them trying Evans at the 3 again. Evans as the ball handler while Thomas/Fredette and McLemore/Thornton plays off him. Patterson is also a stretch four. Just needs the coach to build this system effectively around making things easier for Cousins.

BTW- I really like McCullum. Rumors are that Fredette is on his way out, so that should clear up some space. Utah and Indy were rumored to be interested, and since Utah needs a backup behind Burke and Indy not drafting a pg, I can see both still looking to deal for Fredette. Both has cap space can send a pick back to the Kings.

Kings are a dark horse to be playoff contenders out west.

McCallum could take the starting job from Thomas easily.

He’s a brilliant shooter, but him and Marcus thornton have terrible metrics and can’t play defense. The thing about Evans is they can go a few different ways with him. Evans could be signed and traded to the Hawks for Jeff Teague who has improved in the play making a ability. He is an above average shooter, not sure about his defense but I know he’s atheltic and a team player.

If not that, you keep Evans and use him where he was most effective. At the point guard position they can use B-Mac to spread the floor while evans does most of his damage from attacking the rim for the most part. Evans doesn’t have to go, he’s the most versatile out of all the guards the Kings have. As for Thomas, he’s proven he can be a back up, or an above average starter in the league. Demarcus Cousins and Thomas are also good friends and having him around could prove useful to Cousin’s development in his inconsistent anger management.

If Ray McCallum proves to be a better PG than Evans and Thomas it pushes Evans out the door. If not then there is no point in trading away Evans. The odd men out here are clearly Jimmer and Thornton. And seeing as how there have been rumours of the kings trying to trade both of them. They need to package some players and attempts at either trading for a small forward, or picking one up in free agency.

All in all I say we keep Evans and try him in the back court with B-Mac. And stop saying B-mac needs the ball to be effective. The guy is excellent in transition and work off the ball just fine. He can use screens to get clean shots of and we all know he isn’t nearly good at creating his own offense off the dribble as Evans. Pairing those two up would be ideal to me. They have two different type of games.

I do not undestand how anyone could say Bmac needs the ball to be effective, its more like he needs to play off the ball to be effective since he does not create well for himself and he moves well without the ball.

The best way to put this team together is simply put Tyreke at PG. The dude freakin averaged 20,5,5 as a rookie when he played the point. They aren’t gonna go any where with Isaiah Thomas running the team and jimmer is probably on his way out. Tyreke and Big Mac is a great backcourt to look forward to.

Tyreke is going to play point. He’s a ball-dominant combo-guard while B-Mac is an offball shooting guard. It’s a great match for the both of them.

Except Reke doesn’t share the ball well (his assists per game has gone down every year he’s been in the league) and since McLemore can’t create his own shot, I see a rough rookie year for him when he’s sharing the back court with Reke.

That’s because he played the point his first year and from then transitioned to shooting guard.
