OhCanada-ParticipantIts not even fair… Myck Kabongo will play for the Miami Heat during the Summer League. Im sure Ujiri and the Raptors offered him a position on the Summer League squad but having an opportunity to play with James, Wade, and Bosh swayed Myck in a different direction. Well at least Im assuming as much, maybe the Raps didn’t even make an offer but I doubt that.
If Im the Raps I overpay and offer him a couple mil for a couple years. We need young prospects in all positions and this is a huge opportunity to buy a high upside guard that will work extremely hard for his hometown and we will be able to retain for a decent price.

CameronCrazy11ParticipantStill can’t believe he went undrafted and Nemanja Nedovic was a 1st round pick

OhCanada-ParticipantI would be happy to go undrafted rather then be a 2nd round talent check pick. These guys get a second chance to be recruited and then summer league is pretty much like job interviews.Guys like CJ Leslie, Mbakwe and Kabongo probably had/have teams chasing them.

Sewok15ParticipantA team like the Heat certainly fits his style because he wants to play fast. The only problem for him is that they have Cole and Chalmers holding down the point guard spot and they are both better shooters and defenders than Myck at this point. With James doing most of the playmaking duties they don’t necessarily need a playmaking point guard like Kabongo. At the same time it would be interesting with him running the break and Wade on one side with LeBron on the other.
I am still a believer in Kabongo’s talent and would imagine he will eventually catch on with someone but I doubt it will be with the Heat as a 3rd PG.

T-Dot-BallerParticipantYou have to remember that just because he’s playing for Miami summer league that doesnt mean our scouts wont have an eye on him especially because Toronto is booked to play Miami in the summer league we’ll be able to get a even closer look at what he’s made of.
And also Kabongo is not worth over paying, if it were up to me to decide i would say Kabongo couldve used another year in college especially after all the drama that took place. If were gonna over pay, why not over pay a proven back up point guard in free agency.

Memphis MadnessParticipantKabongo, James Ennis, and D.J. Stephens will be fun to watch in summer league. The Heat also need to look at Kenny Kadji.
If the Heat bring back their main 9 or 10 man rotation (including Birdman) with these 3 rookies filling out the roster, I think the Heat
will get that 3 Peat next year.0 - Posted on: Fri, 06/28/2013 - 6:00pm #809074

DolanCareParticipantI like Kabongo a lot, but disagree that he’s a good fit with Miami. He’s ball dominant, small/weak and isn’t a catch and shoot threat.
Just because he can run and pass doesnt make him a good piece for the Heat. James and Wade will always have the ball. If those two cant score, they dish out to a shooter. They don’t need another ball handler. Not one bit.
Myck needs to go to a team that is desperate for speed and passing. I thought the Lakers would have been a perfect destination for him. He would have been able to grow with them being an upgrade from Darius Morris.

Kabongo is one of my favorite players I’ve been watching all the Findlay Prep Canadians religiously for a while. I never said he is a franchise changer I just like the idea of picking up a young PG with tons of potential into his hometown. These kids really take pride into playing for thier country he isnt going to stop working. He has had a very difficult college season with things he couldnt control. He now has control on gis career and a chip on his shoulder the size of a boulder. Plus the Raptors need a PG why not a fan favorite, Im a fan and I’d like to see one of my favorites play at the games I go to.
What Im saying is as far as a career fit and match for his playing style, opportunity to win and career opportunity Miami is a better career choice and the right move for Kabongo. The best way for him to learn is from Champions he would be put in a similar position Joseph another Canadian was put in. Maybe he allows emotion to make his signing decision instead of rational and decides to play here. But then he would probably have committed to our SL team.

OhCanada-ParticipantLooks like the Heat signed Anthony Marshall already. Marshall is also on the SL team it should be interesting to see those two and who plays better.

NashyMingParticipantKabongo is just playing summer league with the Heat. I hope he plays well and the Raptors will make him a legit offer to lock him up for a few years (a lot of 2nd round picks getting 4 years small contracts these days).
Another guy I would like the Raptors to pick up would be Jackie Carmichael. I think at best, he could be the hard working Carlos Boozer when he was still with the Cavs (not after he got the fat contract). At worst, he would be like Shelden Williams. Could be a solid backup PF for the cheap.

Tongue-Out-Like-23ParticipantI’m guessing Miami might not resign Chalmers when his contract is up. Norris Cole has shown an improved jumper and has more defensive potential than Chalmers so I’m guessing they think he can be the starter. So adding Kabongo as the back-up point guard would be a cheaper option for Miami than resigning Chalmers.

BothTeamsPlayedHardParticipantThe Heat took sole control of a NBDL team for next year, and I would expect that part of the reason they are adding a few of the bigger name undrafted players is that Miami will have to fill out a team in Sioux Falls. These guys aren’t going to have guaranteed spots on the roster, and Kabongo won’t be able to get on the floor with the Heat because he can’t shoot and he is not good enough to take the ball out of LeBron or Wade’s hands. They have 12 guaranteed contracts for next year, so obviously there is no significant guarantee. Still, it is a worthwhile attempt for Miami to try to keep Ennis, Kabongo, Marshall, Varnado, Hopson, and Stephens around their system if they aren’t able to be the lucky one or two to stick on the regular season roster. A little guaranteed money for the training camp spot can help subsidize them during an NBDL season. If he plays well in the summer league and the NBDL, then someone will likely give him a chance.
As for the Raptors, they could have bought a pick if they really liked Kabongo and this is not going to be the last crack they have at getting him. This is no different from when people were stunned Scott Machado went undrafted. It happens, and not only that but everyone had a second chance last year when the Rockets waived him. I was surprised he did not get taken, but it is not the end of the world for him.
