I’ve been a Kobe/laker fan my whole life. The lakers are in real trouble in almost every aspect of the franchise. They aren’t getting Dwight back, Kobe’s hurt and they are extremely old. Not to mention even if they tank the next 2 years they don’t own a single 1st round pick. Mike D’antoni has indirectly killed any chance the lakers might of had. I’m not blaming him but rather I blame management. Mike brown should of never been fired but also never should of been hired. Shaw should have taken over directly after Phil stepped down. I honestly believe the lakers should of taken a page out of the heats play book and made phil Jackson president of basketball operation while he named his long time assistant Brian shaw as head coach ala pat Riley and spo.
What do the Lakers do going forward? Does Kobe retire a Laker? They literally have no real trade assets. It’s a completely mess in lakerland right now. I use to like Dwight but this dude is a franchise killer. The tides have changed in LA the clippers are looking like the stable franchise while the lakers are left out in the cold with their dick in their hand. Saddens me to say it but it really looks like the lakers are completely fucked the next 2 yrs.
Side note-all I could think last night after mclemore went to the kings was “damn Seattle missed out on one of the most popular jerseys in franchise history” that jersey would have BLOWN UP Seattle. But whatever thank you David stern for you’re 30 yrs of service u shady troll. The secrets that man has must be insane.

Don’t count the Lakers out until he signs with someone else. All this could be rumors leaked from his camp to make everyone think they really have a shot at getting him so he can be treated like a king for a few days by the teams trying to sign him. Even if Dwight does go somewhere else they will just have a ton of cap space to use in 2014 and sign one of the best free agents.

Kobe isn’t retiring anytime soon. You can find a video on YouTube of him recently in Brazil saying he’s still got another 3-4 years left.
As for Dwight, I’ve been reading from numerous sites that the Lakers have no chance of keeping Dwight, but a lot of people seem to be forgetting the Lakers can offer Dwight Howard the most money out of all the teams, about 30 million more. The max the Lakers can offer is 118 million for 5 years while other teams can offer 88 million for 4 years. Money is very important in these decisions, so I wouldn’t count the Lakers out indefinitely. Not a lot of players will willingly give up a chance to sign a 100 million plus contract.

Its been proven that Houston’s tax free state status would actually result in a very small difference in take home pay over the 4 year period versus the Lakers offer. In addition it has been proven time and again that the “5th year” is of little importance to a younger stars. Even if injured for most of the 4th year of the contract, some GM somewhere will still likely throw another max deal at the player in free agency… if he has performed well prior to the injury.

  Actually, he would only really miss out on like 8mil because after his 4-year contract ends, a team can go ahead and give him another max deal that will start at like 25mil anyway. Plus the 3mil the Lakers can give over the span of the first 4 years so that 30mil figure is inflated and misleading.

Man you gotta keep the faith. Pau Played hurt last year and had surgery to alleviate the pain this summer. He’ll step in as center allowing Jordan hill to start where he was the teams best 6th man before getting hurt last year in January. Clark will also get more minutes at the 4 and Ryan Kelly might see the court as well. These pieces fit mike’s system better then the pound inside to Dwight tactic that failed miserably last year.
As for the perimeter, Kobe hopefully comes back close to full strength. They take some pressure off Kobe, Nash, metta and Blake who were all injured hopefully by adding somebody with the midlevel and playing the young guys like Morris and Meeks.
And if all that fails, next summer the lakers have Kobe, pau, metta, Blake etc… All coming off the books. If they want to rebuild, they’ll have as much cap flexibility as anyone next summer depending on what happens with Kobe. Hopefully he’ll take less.

    I hyped Jordan hill. And if you watched him last season where he was getting double doubles and providing energy and outplaying gasol, you would know he is a solid player if he can stay healthy. As for Clark and Kelly, I didn’t hype them at all. I said they can contribute, that’s it.
    Lakers were 8 games under .500 in late January then over the last 41 games had the 4th best record in the league and had a winning record vs playoff teams in that stretch. They just took too long to get it goIng and then broke down.
    I know you guys all get a Kick out of watching them lose so I understand how it works around here. I say keep the faith and let’s see how they do if they can stay healthy and that means negatives and if someone says they suck and are washed up that means thumbs up. That’s cool.

        Well I’m the type of person who likes to go ahead and wait until we see the teams play before I make my mind up it’s over. And having a crazy number of injuries for one season doesn’t exactly make me think the door is slammed shut. Besides, I doubt Kobe misses half the season. It’s possible he will be ready for game one, and unlike some other players, Kobe goes to battle if he can play.

        No, you are a Lakers fan, which means you defend the Lakers when it defies logic. The Lakers roster is going to be incredibly thin this year. And they have one good player. Steve Nash is old. That’s why he gets hurt all the time. Kobe will be hurt to start the year.
        And yes, I see your Derrick Rose dig, YES he didn’t come back last year. Maybe he should take up some more of Kobe’s habits, I.e. quitting on your team in a Game 7, yelling at your teammates every time they don’t do exactly what you want them to do, alienating the greatest duo on a team of the 21st century, and yelling homophobic obscenities at an official like a sophomore in high school.

        Meh, none of this is new material. Rose quit on his team for an entire playoffs so he’s already passed up any percieved quitting on kobes part. Yelling at teammates? Maybe, but that’s overblown. He’ll Jordan yelled at teammates too and punched Kerr out in practice. Competitors compete. Alienated the duo? Shaq wanted no part of Kobe either. Both were done with each other. Only difference is management was smart and sided with the younger player who actually worked hard. As for “yelling” a homophobic slur which he muttered to himself and nobody more then 10 feet away could hear, who cares. He was fined and apologized. People are too politicaly correct. I’m sure just about every pro athlete would be fined for saying stuff if they had cameras there to catch everything. As for rose, Kobe had a 1050 sat score. Rose failed the most simple entry level qualifications for a college athlete, which are incredibly low to begin with, to be accepted and had to have a friend take it for him the third time. Guy has pebbles for a brain. I don’t think it would hurt him at all to take up quite a few things from Kobe honestly.

The management has been horrible once they let shannon brown walk to the suns for 2 million which was basically the mcroberts contract. Giving away sasha and a first rounder for nothing and not to mention the ramon sessions experiment. Only good thing they done in past two years was get jordan hill(they passed on beasley) and drafting the stretch 4 from duke.

LA is still the most popular free agent destination in the league. they can just clear cap, hope to get back some picks in exchange for the guys they have left with value around the league and be in great shape to land free agents from 2015 and beyond. I think they need to amnesty Kobe though. I agree he has gas in the tank, but everyone knows what he’s after- the All Time Scoring crown, and he’s gonna get it no matter what. He’s gonna be jacking shots for the next few years, not trying to win titles. He can still score but he’s just not the same guy. Amnesty him, let him walk, and ship Pau/Nash out even if they only get cap relief and second rounders back.

If we wanted to be really cynical, the Lakers could tank for a year and look to get a good deaft pick next year, they agree that Kobe sits out next year, they amnesty Gasol to save a load on luxury tax and then 2014-15, Kobe returns, he has maybe a high draft pick running mate, they sign another top FA and fill out the roster and they are good to go again.
Kobe may be 35 now but if he returns sound, he is still younger than two guys the Nets have just gone all in to try and win a title with.

Los Angeles is still the place to be for NBA players and you have an owner who pays the most (outside of Pokorov, but that guy is has established himself as a massive idiot).
Next year will be rough. But once contracts become expiring, the Lakers will be able to start to rebuild.

AND you’re consistently one of the most desirable free agent destinations because you’re a big market team?

Dwight Coward is a cunt (Orlando fan here) and I watched as he tore out city to bits with his charades/schenanigans. Do you all REALLY want him to be the center piece of what will essentially be “re-building”? The Lakers will probably not do all that well this coming year, with or without Dcoward. It was a shame to see Kobe go down the way he did, and I’d actually like to see him retire. One thing that COULD work, amnesty him, and bring him back after letting him sit a full year to recover (rules on that?) Kobe really needs to take this time to understand that he will not be the athlete he was before, so what do we do? Become a better overall shooter…Pau Gasol has really got to go, the time was right 2 years back before Kobe trashed his confidence. I LOVE Earl Clark, I knew he would do well there, and Hill isn’t too bad either. I think Kelly was a terrible pick…fact of the matter is, they can’t sign free agents without cap space…
