Roland209ParticipantApparently they would do a sign and trade for him but it would only work if they trade Pierce. Would he be starting alongside Green? And who/what would they have to trade to land him?

aramboneParticipantRondo + Smith = future mutiny.
Sounds like an ownership play to salvage ticket sales this year. Short term thinking.

HitsterParticipantDwight Howard has never seemed keen on the Celtics so I would probably rule him out so could they run with a future core of Rondo, Bradley, Smith, Green and KG ( short term). Maybe they could it would probably be a play off team but not a true contender like the PP,KG and Ray Allen Celtics team.

capecodderParticipantAs a Celtics fan, I don’t want to rebuild around Smith…..his shot selection is terrible especially at crunch time…a more athletic Antoine Walker

HitsterParticipantHe’s a good player but not an elite one, it would almost be like getting say Al Jefferson back – another good player but not a franchise cornerstone.
The Celtics need to decide whether they cash in on their veteran assets and go into full scale rebuild or try and have a few more short term runs. It depends whether they want to be legit contenders or just be happy with making the play offs and taking the revenue from that.
We would probably think that rebuild is the best long term option but with PP and KG only being under contract for 2 and 1 more year respectively they could maybe decide to stay a play off team and then rebuild in a couple of years time. If they want to rebuild via the draft then logic says you start doing it now but if they want to rebuild via FA market then maybe they wait until the cap clears. If you do want to build via FA market then there is a case to move veterans on and try to acquire future picks for them or clear cap space sooner this would give Danny Ainge more options to make trades.
The one good thing for Celtics fans is that Danny Ainge put together one championship team, now they have to see if he can do it again in due course.

TheArtistPaysthePriceParticipantI actually think it would be a pretty good move. It was rumored (or really just speculated) by Bill Simmons that that’s the real reason Ainge wanted Bledsoe, so that he could work a S&T with Atlanta for Smith with presumable some of those bad C’s contracts leaving out as well.
We do know Rondo only has like 6 NBA friends and that includes Josh Smith, Avery Bradley and Rudy Gay. I know that’s only 3 but those are the only ones I ever heard of, I just made up the possibility of 3 more existing. He has said on numerous occasions he has very few friends in the league. It would be the all time worst shot selection team of stars in NBA history. Add Green (this new Green is pretty good though I’m referring to his pre Rondo injury career, he suddenly grew a pair of balls and started ballin) and possibly Bass and we are talking an analytic nightmare.
Ironically, the positive is that Rondo and only Rondo decides who shoots when and where. Rondo will stare a guy down and not pass it to him even if open if he isn’t open where Rondo wants him open. If KG stays put that could be one hell of a defensive team. Ainge has been trying to get Josh Smith for years.

KHAM83ParticipantWho will the Hawks receive? Ferry is not going to take back contracts just for the heck of it I rather let Smith walk than doa sign and trade with Boston, unless it includes picks.

AmiableBaller34ParticipantRondo, Bradly, and Smith would make the Celtics the worst offense in the league. Teams wouldn’t even guard the team past 15 feet. I wouldn’t mind Smith, but not for the money he thinks he’s getting. While I want the Celtics to rebuild, I wouldn’t mind seeing them sign Smith to a deal similar to what Ersan Ilyasova got except with less years. Smith isn’t an allstar, and shouldn’t be paid as much. But a s&t? Who would Boston give up? If it’s Jeff Green surely the Celtics laugh and walk away.
