Mason Plumlee to the Sixers? Mock Draft

I see a lot of you guys have Plumlee ranked just out of the lottery, but what are the chances the Sixers take him 11th overall? They desperately need someone who could rebound the ball and put the ball in the basket, which is certainly something Plumlee could do.
With Jrue Holiday, I think Plumlee could turn into a pretty good NBA player. Athletic big men thrive in the NBA and Plumlee has the tools to do so.

He can’t shoot and doesn’t bring anything to the table that Moultrie doesn’t or at least in theory doesn’t
Rather than depth at 4 where they have young, Moultrie and Allen – they need to plug holes
No 2 guard on the roster, a real 3, backup point and a center to help Hawes

Plumlee will likely never become much of an offensive player. He is big and athletic and should be a good rebounder but I don’t think he projects as a starting PF. The Sixers have a lot of issues and desperately need scoring help especially in the half court. Plumlee is really an upgrade over Allen or Moultrie in my opinion. I would much rather see KCP or McCollum….somebody who can consistently hit a jumpshot is a must for the Sixers.

  Nick Young will be gone and I don’t see Richardson being here. If we could get a legit free agent 2, CJ would be a good 3rd guard/combo

    They desperately missed Lou Williams this passed season. He was the guy they went to at the end of the shot clock and the end of quarters/games. He could create his own shot in the halfcourt which is something that nobody else on this team can do outside of Jrue Holiday. The team they built was clearly designed to have Bynum in the post and the J-Rich, Nick Young and D-Wrights could play off of him. Well we all know how that worked out so now we need another guard to create. McCollum is my first choice and I will be hoping he somehow falls to them and they are smart enough to pick him.

      Not having Lou Will hurt and, although he’s getting up there, same for Brand. He was the only guy they had where you could pass into into the post and have him shoot a turnaround which was pretty automatic. This year – nothing down low.
      I’m a big believer in chemistry and its tough to have that turning over the roster and the head coach every year – I like the Spurs model
      The Sixers were getting closer with Doug and a team that played together – then they blew it up trying to take the next step. Every time I see a Magic game and watch Vucevic and Harkless, I think of what could have been had they kept things intact.
      Now we are looking at Steven Adams and the like to replace a guy who wasn’t given a chance

I think he is optimistic and probably a comment made out of frustration that Len, Adams and Noel seem to be getting most of the commentary in the draft process. That said he will provide good service for a team off the bench and seems to have a great work ethic. I don’t see him in the lottery picks but certainly deserves a mid to late first round selection,

The problem I have with a team like Philadelphia is that it is hard to really find guys who are clearly better than who is currently on their team. Arnett Moultrie did not play much, was not especially inspiring in his NBDL stint, is not all that strong, and the most skilled player in the world, but is there really that much that Mason Plumlee adds that Moultrie cannot? In as much as they are not going to win a title with Spencer Hawes, Lavoy Allen, Kwame Brown, and Moultrie in their frontcourt, it does not mean the alternatives from this draft are better. As maddening as Spencer Hawes has been, are they going to do better? They clearly wanted to try with Bynum, but it didn’t work out. Would they be better off using their cap space on someone like Al Jefferson, Pekovic, and draft a shooter like Caldwell-Pope, Muhammad, or Karasev? The size up front with Jefferson, Hawes, Allen, and then sometimes Young in a small look or Moultrie would certainly create matchup issues for many teams in the East. The fact that Bynum did not work out does not mean that the idea of trying to be the biggest team up front was wrong. The draft certainly allows for shooters to be had around Philadelphia’s pick, and that would help build the perimeter around Holiday and Turner.
