maybe someone can explain this better than I can, but I just dont understand why the team plays so much better without amare in the lineup at all. When Amare returned, although coming off the bench, the knicks didnt have that same kind of chemistry they had early in the season and they certainly have been playing great over the last 12 games. Even if amare comes off the bench, something about the chemistry seems off with this team. Maybe they need more time together, but what do you if he returns this year because this team is clearly playing with great and they have a ton of chemistry and i wouldnt want anything to mess that up.

Its a tough situation because Amare’s skillset not only meshes poorly with Melo, but also with Chandler.

What makes Amare great is his ability to play off ball, especially in the pick and roll. That means that Amare is dependent on Felton. Kidd and Prigioni are great passers, but aren’t as talented in running the P&R as Felton is more of a slashing threat. Secondly, Chandler often takes those opportunities that are presented.

IMO Amare gets frustrated and gets his basket by creating for himself down low. He is pretty good at doing this, unforuntately it’s time consuming and hurts ball movement – the one thing the knicks need to beat good teams.

Amare is stilla very good player, just gets overshadowed on this team. My advice for him is to become a deadly midrange shooter. If he can knock down shots around the foul line at an elite clip, he will see his minutes spike up.

In addition, he needs to become a better help defender. He has no shot at becoming a rim protector or a good 1-on-1 defender. But if he learns to slide his feet on d and contribute with Tyson his lack of gelling will be less of a problem as well.

The odd thing about Knicks playing so well is Melo is doing it the way we will are against. Those consistent deep 2’s and way to many jumpers. No one is complaining, obviously as they are falling for him right now. I just dont know how long this can keep up. This type of play isn’t as sustainable as other teams for example the Spurs.

Amare isn’t a great defender and without Steve Nash feeding him the ball his stats have dropped since his all-star days at Phoenix

Amare is one of those guys who needs to be the primary scorer. He had an ideal situation in PHX, perfect system, Nash as the co-star was totally unselfish. When he came to NY, that first year it was working for him great but that team didn’t have enough fire power to win it all.

Now, the team has an entirely different identity, based off Anthony and Smith basically playing one on one and guys knocking down 3s. They are so much better with Anthony and Chandler at the 4 and 5, because it allows them to have 4 perimeter guys out there with Chandler to help make up for the lack of size. Amare essentially screws all of that up, hence why he doesn’t fit well at all and why they play poorly with him.
