He told reporters earlier this week that he’s Staying..But sometimes players use that to keep the media from asking them that question over & over..

He has improved his Stock more then anyone else during this tournament..He could go as high as late lottery if he came out this year…..He’ll get playing time as a rookie despite being raw offensively, becuz he has such great intangibles ..Maybe another Varejao……

I think that Mitch is making the right decision sticking around Ann Arbor for another year. In my opinion, he is a lottery pick this year and the second best PF after Cody Zeller (currently #2nd, he may have a higher ceiling than Zeller). Another year can only make him more game ready for the NBA.

Mitch is going gain a ton of experience this upcoming year because he will have a target on his back. Teams know that he is most likely going to be the best and most dominant player on the Wolverine roster, so he will have to improve on his offense to overcome defenses focused on stopping him.

His ability to score with either hand, and his mid-range shooting capability, remind me of David Lee’s offense a bit. But Mitch is bigger, stronger, and has more of a motor. I am excited to watch this guy in the future, he could be a special PF in the NBA.

Kids just say that they’re coming back, but Mitch’s statement was a little more convincing. He basically said that there isn’t even a decision to made, that he’s staying.

On a prospect, check their NBADraft.net profile. Look under "Related News". May not always have the article, though there will usually be a lot of articles related to these prospects to check out:

    [Player: Mitch McGary]

Here was the article I think you were looking for:

Nothing concrete with him staying or leaving as of yet. His team is still playing and I am guessing he will weigh his options once his season is over. Think asking any of these guys the "stay or go" type of question gets you the same type of answer every time. How once interprets these answers can get you headlines and some clicks. Think it would be a great idea for McGary to stay in school as he still has a lot to work on, just think he will have to evaluate leaving since his stock has skyrocketed with his play over the last while and in the NCAA’s.

Anybody think he could improve next year playing without Hardaway, Robinson, and Burke? I think he should cash in while he’s hot.

Playing for a coach like John Beilein? I absolutely think he can improve.

Not just his skill-set but his stock? Will it be any higher that it currently is? I think if Michigan wins a national title, McGary leaves. He’s soaring through draft boards and he could end up being a 9-14 if he continues his play in the next two games. (Yeah, I said two games)

Yes. The physical is there. If he can improve his skill-set I can see him going higher next yr. I think people are penciling in incoming freshman next yr in the ’14 lotto when some are most likely 2 yr players.
Just look at what .net has late lotto for their ’14 draft.. actually look at who they have throughout the teens. Is it really that interesting or deep?

I’m just saying that playing alongside Hardaway, Burke, and Robinson covers a lot of his flaws. There’s a bigger chance that he stays, has a bad year, and becomes a 3-year player and 20-ish pick than becoming the lead guy and getting into the top-10. That’s simply my opinion.

Burke makes the game very easy for him and while he is an extremely good rebounder, can he create for himself consistently as the #1 option and put up 15+ PPG?

I don’t agree that there’s a greater chance he has a bad yr. Derrick Walton is coming in next yr and I’m not saying he’s another Trey Burke in the making, but he has some similar qualities in that he has advanced PnR skills for a young point and he has a mature game.
Regardless of who McGary is playing with, he can impact the game in a number of ways. For instance, if he’s not being fed in the PnR, he can still have an impact on offense with his huge screens, offensive rebounding and his overall movement. He’s not just a good target because he has great hands. He’s a good target because he knows how to slide into openings and make himself available. Playing with less talent just means that he’ll be featured a little more, which can be a good thing if he improves his skills, which I think he will since that coaching staff is good at skill development and teaching the game in general.

trey burke has helped mitch mcgary look better in the tournament so far… mcgary is a real good pick and roll player.. not saying burke has made mcgary… but burke has def. helped…. if im him.. I would go back to school… hes gnna likely be the first option for next yrs team… ppl are so quick to jump the gun that if a player comes back to school he wont have the same nba success if they would’ve left early… it doesn’t matter… look at a guy like cody zeller… if he declared last yr or this yr hes gnna have a struggle to get shots off on nba length, strength and size..doesn’t matter which yr he declared. it just helps the teams to see who improved and who got exposed

If I’m McGary and know I’m goin top 10 I am going for sure, you don’t pass up a chance to go that high.Yeah sure he could get better in college, but can he not get better in the NBA? I understand he will get more touches at Michigan but he will go up against harder, bigger, and taller competition in the NBA.Lets also look at James McAdoo, he didn’t play much last year but he doubled his ppg and rpg this year and is projected more then twice as much picks lower.

McLemore, Smart, Porter, Zeller, Plumlee, Muhammad, Bennett, Oladipo, MCW, Noel, Len, Burke, McCollum, Olynyk. McGary is not going top 10. He’s a great rebounder and hustler but minimal true offensive game right now and no superstar potential. Will definitely be able to be productive in NBA, think early Varejao but doesn’t have the size of him. Sets good screens and rebounds very well at a PF position. No one is going to draft a 5 year backup in the top 10 when there are at least 5 better big men.

His stock is very high right now and he has the tools to impress at the combine. Just look what going back has done for guys like Sullinger, Mitchell and McAdoo.

Just because he said he’s staying doesn’t mean he really will, not saying he wont stay, but when those scouts start telling you the things you want to hear and you know there’s a good chance it will turn out how they say it will, you will be more prone to declare.

I just think you should go when your hot, god forbid he comes back and gets injured or scouts find major holes in his game, then what?

McGary is going to go high in this draft, because it totally stinks and he’s gotten hot at the right time. I’d worry about his ceiling but you are basically picking between a guy who goes invisible too much and a guy with a torn ACL for the top pick so I guess it would make sense if McGary ended up in the top 10.
