Memphis MadnessParticipantIf I am San Antonio at 29, I might actually do what I said they should do in my April Fools Mock Draft.
If I were the Spurs I would draft Andrew Wiggins. That would send a message to the league. Wiggins is the guy with talent. Why should he risk having his leg explode on TV by going to college first?
If David Stern says “With the 29th pick in the NBA draft the San Antonio Spurs select ANDREW WIGGINS” that would be the best moment in this draft. Especially if he is actually in the audience.
At best, the Spurs actually get the guy in a year or two.
At worst, they vacate the pick and don’t have to pay anyone a guaranteed salary for a year or two. They would probably be better off looking at undrafted free agents for less money.

Forte IVParticipantOr on a serious note draft a guy like Lucas Nogueira and develop him

Professor RozayParticipantIf he is on the board I think that is exactly what they will do…

Tight ButtholeParticipantIf there were any loopholes for this to actually happen, then Im sure whomever was drafting #1 this year would take Wiggiins. Spurs wouldn’t be dumb enough to waste a first rounder, especially the way they draft. Theyd be better off drafting a foreign player and stashing them

Memphis MadnessParticipantI am not sure the Spurs want to spend guaranteed first round money on a guy who probably won’t play. Unless they can trade their pick they would be better off getting someone with their late second round pick, or just looking at undrafted rookie free agents to fill out the roster.
But, if the Spurs DO take a flyer on Andrew Wiggins in the first round, and then draft Britney Griner at the end of the second round, I will send the San Antonio Spurs organization $50 bucks.

220ParticipantCould you imagine if they let teams do that still? There could be whole drafts and absolutely entire second rounds. It would suck for the players though because awesome players would be drafted far later than they should.

Memphis MadnessParticipantThe Spurs might be better off not drafting anyone (I think late first rounders have a guaranteed two year deal). Taking Andrew Wiggins would be a great Coach Pop move.
The Spurs could probably take it to court and see what happens.
I think it is a bad rule for guys having to stay a year before they get drafted. If the NBA wants guys to go to college, what they can do is let them enter the draft after high school, or any year after that. They might have to stay in school one year, or maybe two, but after the guy leaves school his NBA contract goes into effect.
This way everyone wins. A great talent can get drafted out of high school (if he declares), a college gets a great player for maybe two years, and the NBA eventually gets the guy they want and let the college team break the kid in.

the I in winParticipantThat is kinda how the Celtics got Larry Bird, he was drafted and then went back to indiana state for a year and then joined the Celtics. The league made a rule banning this afterwards.

RUDEBOY_ParticipantIs this meant to be another APRIL FOOL’S DAY JOKE THREAD?

RUDEBOY_ParticipantWiggins is only 18 and i think rules states that a player has to be 19 or turning 19 during that season…And a year removed from his graduating class…
The Spurs have done a great job of selecting talent..At 29 they might go for a foreign player and leave him overseas to develope or they could roll the dice on someone like Ricky Ledo…
