This dude is so over rated. I take CJ Fair over him everyday of the week.

I wonder how much of Gottfried being the coach has caused these guys to jump ship. People expected Brown and Leslie to go pro earlier in the season due to all the hype State was receiving. But after a dissapointing season I would have thought they would have returned to redeem themselves. I’m not surprised that they are leaving but would have hoped not as a college basketball fan. But with Brown and Leslie leaving, along with Purvis transfering; you have to wonder how long Gottfried will be the coach.

You gotta think something’s up when you have two five star point guard prospects leave within the first couple years of your tenure (granted, Ryan Harrow wasn’t ever real D1 talent). I feel like a lot of ADs are hamstrung by feeling they have to choose a person with previous head coaching experience..even if that person got fired because they weren’t very good at their previous job.

Weak draft, his stock isn’t going up by becoming a senior, it rarely does, but honestly I feel like Leslie has been at NC State forever so it’s odd that he’s only a junior.

You can’t blame Harrow transferring on Gottfried. Sidney Lowe recruited him and as soon as they fired Lowe, Harrow made the decision to transfer. Gottfried never got a chance to coach him.

Leslie and Brown are going pro because this draft is weaker than next year’s draft will be. They should both be first rounders this year but wouldn’t sniff the first round next year with all of the talent coming out.

The Purvis transfer was based on his desire to play the point guard spot. He is 6’2 and doesn’t have great range so he isn’t really suited for the SG spot at the next level. With Tyler Lewis and Cat Barber on the roster next season, Purvis wouldn’t be able to play the point and therefore transferred.

I see you are a State fan. What is your take on Gottfried as a coach? Do you think he has something to do with the players so eager to leave? When T.J. Warren retweeted from former Wolfpack Thomas De Thaey about him being a terrible coach really had me thinking the players don’t really care for him.

Purvis’ shooting ability was better than advertised. He did shoot 39% from 3 this yr.

As for the topic, I don’t think Leslie is long for the league. He didn’t improve enough skill-wise, physically and in terms of understanding the game after 3 yrs. He’s still a raw, thin junior without an NBA position. I wouldn’t take him anywhere near the first round.

harrow is good and def a d1 talent but i just dont think he is meant to be a starter, maybe a starter on a bad power 6 team or starter on a mid major. but at a place like kentucky he shouldve come off the bench. too bad they didnt have a better pg this year. I think it was a wise choice to transfer to gerogia state(where he may not even start) heard they have a good pg already

I think CJ Leslie is a highly talented prospect that can improve greatly at the NBA level. He has to add to his frame, and his jump shot is the major thing that needs to be fixed, but of course that can be fixed. I think he has NBA length and the attitude to make it. I dont think an extra year at State would benefit.him at all however.
I cant see where he is really overrated either. He avg 15 and 8 on a team with 2 other studs. He was also 52% from the field and 33% from 3. I never heard anything about him being a bad teammate or anything so I’m all for him. In the NBA I think he’d be able to play the 3 and the 4. Despite being 200lbs, he’s very long and bouncy.

As far as Mark Gottfried, I actually thought he had been doing a good job at NC State, but i could very well wrong. I only thought he was doing so good because i know how terrible he did at Alabama. He was HORRIBLE. He recruited me there for a long time. I went to several games and had several convos with him and I just never liked him. He had highly talented players but made them play like robots. He wasnt good there.

Honestly why do so much talented players go to NC state? They can win with it so why go? I’d rather be at butler then nc state
