    I have a question. I am a freshman in NYU and I am majoring in Electrical Engineering/ Comp Sci, Physics or Mathematics, haven’t really decided yet. But I wanted to know if I would be able to become an Investment Banker without a degree in finance. A friend of mine is a middle eastern studies major and got an internship with Chase, and he told me its mostly all about networking and who you know. So if anyone of you guys know anything about investment banking could you please tell me!!! Thank You in advance! P.S. What should I choose for my second major Comp Sci, Physics or Mathematics?

    I can’t answer the question at hand, but just came here to say you must be incredibly intelligent. Electrical Engineering degree from NYU should allow you to become president of a small country on that alone. But go with the Math double. I would think that would help more in the banking field than the other two.

      Thank you I appreciate it. My family is filled with engineers and they aren’t really fond of business so that is basically why I chose to do engineering, plus I truly am love my engineering lectures. But I also would like to go into a career that I would enjoy. Thank you once again for your warm words!

    Don’t know much about the science or finance industry, but…

    If you goto graduate school, your undergrad often doesn’t matter except getting the grades and accolades to get in grad school. There are plenty of people in graduate school and with graduate degrees who’s bachelors is in a completely different feild.

    It is always about networking. Companies get 1000s of resumes every single day. If you don’t know someone then there is hardly a chance you’ll get hired….it’s just the way it is. It’s not what you know it’s who you know. If you are wanting to do anything in finance then mathematics would obviously be a good idea. Computer science would also be an excellent choice.
