JoeyGladstoneParticipantThis guy has been so so so good this year for Michigan. Knows when to score & knows when to distribute. Just goes out & plays basketball & knows what he can & can not do on the floor.
He is putting up extremely efficient numbers in the toughest conference in the country. Today he had 26 points on 8-11 shooting, 2-3 from the three, 8-10 from the line, 3 rebounds, 8 assists to 1 turnover against a pretty good Illinois team.
He isn’t the fastest guy around, but he is the BEST pick & roll player in the country, & is very crafty at getting where he wants on the floor. He has a very good handle on the ball & seems to make the right decision 99% of the time.
If you take him off this Michigan team they are nowhere close to being this good & efficient. Teams have to send the double at him off the pick & roll now because he just dissects the D if they do not. Now with that double coming at him it opens up a field day for guys like Stauskas, GRIII, Hardaway JR, & LeVert from the perimeter & they have been benefiting from Burke by knocking down those OPEN shots at an efficient rate.
Now if you take Burke off of this team, I only see one other guy who could get his shot on a consistent level, & that is Hardaway Jr, but there is no doubt in my mind that his shooting % would take a drastic hit in doing so.
If I had a vote, IMO Burke is the NPOY.

SiggyParticipantHe has just as good of a chance as any other top candidate.
It’s either him or Plumlee.0 - Posted on: Sun, 02/24/2013 - 10:55am #750396
Olynyk 4 NPOYOlynyk deserves it more than Plumlee.
If Trey doesn’t get it, which he should because he has dominated, Olynyk is my choice.
and if not, probably douggie.
I would probably give it to Oladipo over
plumlee as well.0 - Posted on: Sun, 02/24/2013 - 11:18am #750403
SiggyParticipantForgot about Dipo for some reason. I’d give it to Plumlee over Olynyk. 18/11, 60% from the floor in a better conference while being the defensive anchor for Duke and stabilizing their front court while Kelly’s been out.
Those would be my top 3 candidates: Burke, Oladipo and Plumlee. Probably in that order as well.

Skeating12345ParticipantI think it will be Oladipo or Burke. I really like Olynyk and i think he could definitely win it but they may not give to him because the Zags havent played against great competition. All are great players though

Forte IVParticipantTrey Burke is like the Tony Parker of College Basketball this year in my opinion. I’m not comparing there play style, just saying they are both good players who really deserve the honor to be NPOY (or MVP) but probably won’t get it.

akhan786ParticipantI’d give it to Trey Burke, but I think Oladipo is right up there as well. Oladipo has the plus that he’s the best player on the best team but then again Burke is probably the most impactful player on one of the Top 3 teams.
Plumlee has gaudy numbers, and has had huge games against top ranked teams especially at the beginning of the year. I just feel like he isn’t as important to his team as Oladipo and Burke are to theirs. You could make the case that Ryan Kelly, Seth Curry, and Quinn Cook are all more important to Dukes success than Plumlee is.

moochieeParticipantKelly Olynyk playing for the 3rd ranked team in the country. 18 points 7 boards 66 FG% in 25 minutes a game (9 less than Plumlee). Easily most efficient player in the country and deserves heavy consideration. The fact that Gonzaga is in a non power conference will knock him down a peg, but he was doing it in non conference as well. Olynyk, Burke, and Oladipo, in no order, are my top 3
