NBA Draft Tiers

We can disagree on the analysis. This is a system. Hollinger released several explanations of this system, but i have adapted it quite a bit.

You can disagree with my analysis and scouting, and i appreciate the input about Burke and Smart. I disagree with you about them, but if it was an exact science, there would never be any value or bust picks.

I think Smart is a better point guard than Evans. He has the ability to drive left or right, pull-up, or shoot a floater. That is what reminds me of Rose (plus the elite athleticism, even if they are different athletically).

Why do you think Smart and Burke have lower potential than i have listed, and how good do you expect them to be?

I thought about the Harden comparison and they do play similarly, but Smart is not nearly as efficient as Harden. That is why i didn’t list him as comparable to Harden. I don’t like to do comparisons with adjectives (ie Inefficient Harden).

I can see the Sanders/Noah comparison for Noel, but i think he is already that good (with an ACL). I think he has higher potential with his athleticism. He is not robotic with his post moves, and looks smooth with the few moves that he does have. He is raw offensively, but i see the raw tools to be good, which is why i compare his ceiling to Garnett, even though that is probably too high of comparison.

I thought about moving McLemore up a tier, but Franchise Tier three is for really high risk, high reward franchise players (Andre Drummond, Demarcus Cousins, Kwame Brown, etc.), who could be huge busts but could be dominate players. It is actually a compliment to McLemore not to have him in that tier, because that means i think that he will be an impact player and starter from day one, and might become an Allstar one day.

I still have doubts that McLemore could be a Franchise player. I can see him being an Allstar, but i don’t see him making an All-NBA team. That is why i put him in that tier.

Who would you compare McLemore to? He is not a great shooter like Allen, and he is not a great slasher like Wade. He is good at a lot of things, but not great at anything (other than athleticism). He is a good defender, and has potential to get better there. George has played shooting guard for the first two years of his career, and i thought his playing style was the most similar to McLemore.

I agree with Lebron’s Hairline (a statement i never thought i’d make). Smart is a better athlete, shot-creator, and defender (his most underrated ability) than Jones. I see your line of thought in your comparison, but i think even his floor is higher than Jones.

Just curious, which games have you seen Smart play in this year? Some games he has looked like a chucker, and if you saw those games then i can understand your doubts.
