I was wondering what you guys are expecting from him this year.  If i were the rockets from a basketball perspective i would of rather stuck with Dragic or Lowry, however Lin will make the team tons of money right away.

While he makes the team money, I do not think he will be that effective this year.  I dont wanna sound like a hater but he had like 12 good games last year.  I am expecting about 8 or 9 points and 4-5 assists.

What do you guys think he’ll do?

I honestly think he can consistently put up a Davis Wesley type stat line. Like a decent stat line (but maybe not for his contract)…5-7 assists 13-15 points

He can average 15,7 with that rockets team, and maybe even close to 20 ppg if he gets green light to shoot

I had originally pegged him as a player who produced at a similar rate as Kirk Hinrich did when he was younger.  Around 14-15 ppg and 6-7 apg, and kind of a 2nd tier point guard, not a star, but certainly good enough to take a team to the playoffs.

That being said, he’s really struggled in the preseason, and I know it’s a little different for a vet.  A guy like Lin has had regular season success, so I don’t think it’s something to really get freaked out about, but 5 ppg on 22% shooting in 26 mpg over 5 games isn’t exactly something to get fired up about either.  The bright side of that is that he’s been creating shots for his teammates and stealing the ball 2.4 times every game.

Four to 5 assists is so wrong it is crazy. Even his rookie year on the Warriors his per 36 minute stats were 5 assists per game and he was certainly not dominating the ball like he does now.

His shot seems broke right now, so who knows how much he is going to score. If he can’t hit the shots, he won’t take many. But he will certainly get minutes and he will find people for more than five assists per game. I suspect the shot problem is partly just Lin’s issue as he has never had a good jumper and partly the result of pressure. He will get used to the pressure in a few months. Also the spotlight will move off of him as he is going to be on a mediocre team playing in a mediocre city. Once everyone gets their fill of Lin, the media will move on and he will settle into being a good PG in the NBA.

And as Joe points out above, Lin does more than just score. He has historically stolen the ball at a good rate and rebounded well for a PG. He is a baller. He doesn’t have a good jumper, but he has all around game.

He has looked terrible in preseason.  I’m not sure if he’s still injured but he’s getting knocked to the floor and not finishing any of his drives.  He really needs to develop a pull up and floater game because I don’t think he has the body control to be a good finisher or great drive and kick passer.  He gets into traffic and he just gets swallowed up. Plus like I said, he’s really taking a pounding so he’ll be constantly on the mend if he keeps hitting the floor like that.  I think he either needs to sit out some games and get close to full strength or adjust his game and look for more pull ups off the PnR.
