Every time I’ve seen this kid play in college and in summer league he’s always impressed me. This kid can do it all on the offensive end. He has incredibly advanced footwork in the paint, great hands, a soft touch, a vast array of post moves, and good handles. He also has a quick first step, good explosiveness around the rim and an NBA ready body.

He has elements of several players in his game – the in between game and funky floaters reminds me a bit of Antawn Jamison and he’s got a little bit of Luis Scola in his footwork and the way he finds a way to get his shot off.

His defense isn’t bad either, he holds his position on the block well, is a capable shot blocker and solid rebounder. I really like his potential and playing a bad team like the Magic will allow him to see the court more.

His offense is NBA ready, no doubt about that. Being a Magic fan I have been able to watch him closely so far & he has a longgggggggggg way to go on the defensive end of the floor. His offense will cover that up this year though seeing how we really won’t be competing for anything this season. His footwork & touch around the rim is about as good as it gets for a rookie.

He does look promising…He gives Orlando fans a reason to go watch them this year….

But i’ll love to see him add some weight and give a better effort on defense….

Yea his defense will get better over the course of the season with playing time. Not really worried about him. Vucevic is another guy who looks very promising. He has a solid post game & rebounds a lot better than I expected. Also Dequan Jones has come out of nowhere & really became an instant fan favorite so far with his incredible athleticism & defensive potential.

The Magic are going to be bad, but there are far worse situations. Nicholson and Nikola Vucevic are big, young, and skilled. O’Quinn is farther away, but he could develop. E’Twaun Moore has had a nice preseason, and might be useful backing up Nelson. Arron Afflalo and Glen Davis are big salaried guys, but are young enough to be around when they turn the corner.  If they can learn to defend and come away with a big time small forward with what will likely be a top 5 pick next summer, they won’t be in the basement for as long as other rebuilding teams have.

There are a few building blocks there and if a couple of them can become good NBA starters then that will be a good return. A lot will depend on the lottery as if a team like the Magic landed a top pick next year or particularly 2014 if both Wiggins and Jabari Parker declare then they could bounce back sooner rather than later.

Nicoholson has looked a very nice offensive weapon from the bench and at nearly 23 years old, he should be more NBA ready than other rookies and I could see him having a good rookie year and being a contender for all rookie team as a best case scenario.

Nicholson reminds me a lot of Zach Randolph with the savvy that he uses down low combined with a quick first step/handle for a guy his size. In traffic he he’s very patient uses more lateral moves than vertical moves even though he has the explosiveness to get up.
