    We all know James Young comitted to UK the other day. I looked at this as duplication in terms of 2 shooting guards but alot of guuys were saying they could run as a 3 guard line up. I watched some clips (never seen a game) of him and came away thinking he was a ‘nice’ looking guard but by no way a beast of any sorts. I was thinking a guy likt Troy Williams would have been a much nicer addition but then I looked on the rankings (espn) and he was ranked 31st. I saw Iverson who I also thik is gona do damage at 27. I just wondered if someone more familiar could let me what these are based on. It seems crazy that the differene in ranking is so wide. i dunno maye Im bias as I high on Williams

    # 31 -Williams: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S9qi_0eyrXI

    #5 -Young: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NuqNDFk8228&feature=related

    #24 -Rathan Meyers; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gy69_RgWWY8

    #27 – K.Iverson: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0LjTqUYq7no

    I just dont see how Meyers a 6ft2 sg (albeit with a terrific compact stroke) be a superior prospect to the others?

    Rankings are very subjective. One player being ranked over another doesn’t neccessarily mean they are better since rankings are kind of like breaking down the tiers. Look at the stars to see what tier the player is in and then use your own discretion. Bottom Line: rankings and lists like these are very subjective.

    For example look at Rivals Rankings:

    James Young= 8

    Kuran Iverson= 24

    Xavier Rathan Mayes= 25

    Troy Williams= 35

    Other guys like Domenic Woodson have huge differences in rankings. He is ranked 36 on Rivals and 78 on ESPN.

    Scout Rankings

    Young=9

    Iverson=33

    Xavier Rathan Mayes= 40

    Williams= 41

    Some sites actually have different positions for the same player. Iverson is a SF on ESPN and Rivals but a PF on Scout. Dont put too much stock in rankings.

     Rankings change with the performances.  They’re not just based on pro potential.  If a kid has a good month or even just a good tourny, you can expect him to climb up the rankings.

    If you’re just looking at clips, not games, then it’s easy to see why you would think guys like K.Iverson or Troy Williams are better than James Young. Both of those guys have flashier games that show well in highlight tapes, whereas James Young has more functional skill that translates better to real games at the higher levels.

    I personally don’t think James Young is a top 5 prospect or maybe even top 10 prospect in that class.

    I just don’t think he should be mentioned in the same tier as the Harrison Twins, Randle, Parker, Gordon, Kasey Hill, etc.

       I do. 6’6 with a 7′ wingspan. Athletic, skilled and has a good feel for the game.  He has the type of game that’ll fit next to any personnel because he can be effective on or off the ball, uptempo or half court.

       This very site has James Young ranked ahead of Aaron Gordon and Aaron Harrison as an NBA prospect and I agree with them.  He’s got that maturity in his game that I like to see in young players.

    I dont get to see much game footage, I see what you say about his composure/maturity and skill. I think his game screamed system player to me rather than sure fire 1 and done. I couldnt really see him being a star the way I see (my fave) Randle or Parker even who seems like a system player but you can see his standout skills and intagables. I watched quite alot but like I say highlights. Obviously these are kids and far from the finished product so its all speculative.

     Good point providencefriars1, for example if you look at Enes Kanter he was ranked in the low 20’s on ESPN but ranked #3 on rivals
