    These are the biggest bust that come to mind in recent memory in no particular order.

    Joe Alexander- This guy had great leaping ability http://pottersnewblog.blogspot.com/2010/01/joe-alexander-arrives.html But that’s about it. Why he was picked 8th overall in 2008 i have no idea.

    Hasheem Thabeet- A huge 7"3, Thabeet was a great shot blocker in college, and picked 2nd overall in 2009. He has yet to do anything in the league, and probably never will.

    Adam Morrison- M.J.’s second biggest mistake. Morrison who was selected 3rd overall back in 2006 was a great scorer in college, but hasn’t cracked a NBA rotation since he was a rookie.

    Nikoloz Tskitishvili- Shot under 30% as a rookie and only lasted in the NBA from 2002-2006. So much for becoming the next Dirk.

    Rafael Araujo- The BYU star was picked 8th in 2004. He only managed to play 3 seasons in the league. And ended up costed the former GM of the Raptors his job.

     Joe Alexander is the one that shocked me out of the bunch.  The guy is so athletic, fast, strong and always played hard. I thought he would be able to advance his game because he is gym rat, but he didn’t..

      I agree, as hard as Joe Alexander played along with his athleticism I thought he would turn out to be at least a solid rotation player. Its tough, but he never did anything in the NBA.

    The guy still does have talent I think his insane athletic ability just forced everyone to put him on a petestal. I wouldn’t be suprised if he popped up in some way later on down the road

     1. The guy who plays ok  in the league but never lives up to how high he was selected. Kwamee Brown is probably the most obvious example of this type of bust. If he had been picked in the mid 20s he would not be considered a bust.

     

    2. The complete fall on their face type of bust, Haseem and Alexander  fit this to a tee.

    3. The "injury bust" I would put Morrison here (but I think he would have been viewed as a bad pick even if he hadn’t been injured)

    A subset of this is for guys like Oden, who in my mind should be viewed as a total bust. Many fans won’t label him a bust because he played ok in short injury free periods. part of it is bad luck but he has one leg shorter than the other and  Blazers still drafted him first. Not saying most gms wouldn’t have but  factoring in Bowie and Walton injury history I am kind of surprised they were not more wary.

     

    Finally guys who not busts just happened to picked very high in weak drafts.  To me A Bragnani fits this, sure he scores 20 ppg but he rebounds like he has an allergy to rebounding. Sadly that draft had no super star.

    Can you imagine if the TWolves had selected Cousins instead of Wesley Johnson…Love and Cousins 2gether might’ve average almost 30 rebounds a night by themselves…

    Marvin Williams, while he hasnt been terrible, you have to classify him as a bust considering the All-Star talent he was picked before. Chris Paul and Deron Williams are both top tier point gaurds in the league now, and Marvin is just a role player at best, though he does fit a niche on an NBA team.

      I think the majority people knew he wasn’t anything special, and that the Hawks were reaching for big that year. The real Bust in that draft is Tyrus Thomas. The Bulls could have kept arguable the best PF in the league Lamarcus Aldridge.

    Injures still count towards being as a bust, so to me #1 pick greg oden is at the top. Esspecially when you consider durant was picked right behind him.

    Greg Oden (although what happened to him was out of his control)

    Hasheem Thabeet

    Darko Milicic (considering he was the 2nd pick in one of the best drafts ever, with the other 4 of the top 5 picks likely HOF’ers)

    Adam Morrison

    Others that come to mind are Joe Alexander, Stromile Swift, Nikola Tskitishvili, Yi Jianlian, Shaun Livingston, Wes Johnson, DaJuan Wagner.

     I’ll throw in Saer Sene and Patrick O’Bryant both top 10 picks in 2006 draft and have had a combined 6 NBA career starts between them. Joe Alexander was one of the few top 10 picks not to even have his year 3 option picked up but GM Hammond did get Jennings the next year.

    Joe Alexander could never find a position… He was stuck badly in between small forward and power forward.

    He struggled with some injuries and the Bucks ended up not picking up his option… That killed his confidence. He was never really a high IQ player either.

     All things considered it has to be Sebastian Telfair. I’ve never see an athlete get so much hype with a movie and everything and be so mediocre
