Top ten recruit Noah Vonleh is reclassifying to 2013

    Sep 24, 2012, 1:54 PM EDT

Noah Vonleh, a top 10 recruit in the Class of 2014, will be entering college a bit sooner than anticipated. Dave Telep of ESPN.com got the scoop.

The move isn’t necessarily a surprise given Vonleh’s age and physical maturity — he’s ready to play college basketball — but, according to Telep, it will throw a wrench into the plans of the schools that are recruiting him. Vonleh is a top ten talent, but he’s not Andrew Wiggins. He hasn’t had the entire country speculating on his status as a member of the Class of 2014.

Where Vonleh’s decision gets interesting is when you look at who else is still available in the Class of 2013. Vonleh’s big, strong and athletic with a penchant for getting to the glass, but where his strength as a prospect lies is in his ball skills. He can go coast-to-coast if he gets a defensive rebound. He can beat his man off the dribble when he faces up on the perimeter. He can knock down a three-ball just as easily as he can finish a tip-dunk over a defender if they don’t box him out.

    He’s a face-up four in a class that doesn’t have a ton of face-up fours readily available.

Vonleh, who is an excellent student as well, already has a who’s-who of schools hot on his trail. Don’t expect that to change anytime soon.

Nice surprise.  I’d probably rank him just ahead of Aaron Gordon in the class because of his better length, perimeter skill and range.

Credit to Frank Burlison. He saw the writing on the wall. The depth in 2013, especially with Wiggins likely reclassification, will be fantastic. Think I have to agree with Vonleh over Gordon, if for one thing the physical characteristics. Vonleh has monster arms, not to mention that he does have a stroke. Also like his ball handling ability for a player of his size. He has developed his body quite nicely and he is a guy I could see becoming a PF down the line, with prototypical size to do so.

2013 could have really used him at addidas nations where the younger class proved to be as good… Vonleh’s a really  good prospect! And I could see Siggy’s point- he could challenge Gordon.

I expected this one. It only makes sense since his original reason for going into 2014 was strictly basketball-related. Once he proved to be an elite prospect regardless of class, there was no reason to put off being a pro by an extra year.

This kid is ACTIVE! and he has a GREAT basketball name (Noah Vonleh, I mean c’mon… Imagine that last name on the back of a Bobcats jersey LMAO) I first saw him play at the Adidas Nations event this past summer and he was cleaning the glass. Long arms and has a frame that could hold up to 30 more lbs. of good weight (he’s listed at 6’9 225 lbs.) He has one and done potential but something tells me this kid might stay in college for a couple of years (Hopefully that is, maybe wishful thinking) we’ll just have to wait and see.

The 2013 class could be legendary

Parker, Harrisons, Randle, Gordon, now Vonleh and Wiggins (if he reclassifies) all have star potential. Imagine if Nerlens Noel didnt reclassify.

This is also making the 2014 class weaker and weaker, and if Wiggins does reclassify the only star potential players I see are Tyus Jones and maybe Jahlil Okafor, now that Vonleh is gone. I do like Theo Pinson in the 2014 class as well, but he has lesser potential.

2014 will still be a deep class.  I think Tyus and Okafor have star potential, but I also think Dakari Johnson, Emmanuel Mudiay, Justise Winslow, Cliff Alexander and D’angelo Russell have all-star potential as well.

he was #4 in the 2014 class before he reclassified, the 2013 class is way better.
