Is it just me or does every Kentucky player get a massive stock increase in the mocks?  I am having trouble understanding how players like Willie Cauley (the #48 incoming FRESHMAN by scout.com) can be slotted to be drafted in the top 20 as a one-and-done.  Also I know people are high on Poythress but #6 seems a little high for someone who will be happy with being top 5 in his class by the end of the year.

I personally think Poythress will be a beast next year and I’m fine with where he is but f*cking Ryan Harrow in the Lottery???

Does anyone even remember how pathetically horrible he was his freshman year? I don’t get how Harrow could be in the lottery and CJ Leslie in the 2nd round….

I’m curious about this as well.  He’s pretty small and when you look at him and listen to him, he isn’t a man’s man by any means.  I think he’ll get bullied.

I’m an ardent Kentucky fan and I would agree to a reasonable extent that there is some UK bias.  Once in the NBA, though, UK players have more or less produced pretty well.  Outside of Daniel Orton (whom all UK fans hate, by the way) everyone who recently attended UK and wen to the league has played pretty darn well. I live in Lexington and saw Noel last week and he honestly isn’t as big as advertised (Cauley is bigger) I think Noel is overrated for his current apparent skill set and the mid lottery players are all crap shoots because who knows where a given team is going to be drafting?  Calipari has definitely been using the media machine to tout Cauley around Lexington.  Whether or not that’s warranted, I don’t know since I haven’t seen him practice, but Calipari seems to love him.

Orton was the only bias I can think of. You’re issue is you think the mock draft before the season starts is worth anything. No scouts make it is only regular people who give their opinion of who they think will go where in the draft. Look at past preseason mock drafts and you will see how wrong these guys are (including this site) other than the obvious. The names that are picked now from UK is based off of how they did in H.S or in Harrows case what he did in H.S college and natural progression under Cal. Will Cauley is more based off how he played at addidas nations run. The kid is a 7ft deer who is as killed but split time between football and basketball. Coach Cal even said he’s much better than he thought Nd that he could start.

And don’t forget this draft is potentially one of the weakest in years. The are no sure lock PG so Harrow could easily slide into the first round as the first or second pg drafted

the ‘almighty ‘ Lo Bron had pretty much the same stats as freshman. Brown playedlast year he didnt so we are yet to see his improvement. which I imgine would be vast playing against last year U~K team should have helped.

I agrre with the idea of the UK boost effect tho- I believe that Knight was a perfect example . and look at Teague this year. His freshman season wasnt better than Harrows for example.

they hide each others weaknesses for the most part tho. thats wat so much talent does. But I wonder if it hurts in terms of development.

you guys are sooooo sleeping on Harrow tho

How did Brandon Knight not deserve to be picked that high?

There is UK bias but they have earned it the last 3 years with what they have produced during the season and on draft night.  But UK fans that think 3 years of guys getting drafted high and going deep in the tourney means an E8 is a given every year need to realize that this crop of recruits is not close to as good as last years group and isn’t as good as the 2009 and 2010 classes.  Nor has any of Cals UK teams had to deal with any untimely injuries to key pieces or having freshmen not produce to the level expected.  Eventually one of those two scenarios will happen or both in a season and it will be interesting to see how the big blue crazies react.  Now NCAA bball is weaker as a whole this upcoming year too but Noel is being overhyped as a one and done top 3-5 pick.  Poythress is a top 10 pick after this year barring any major injuries and I think Archie Goodwin is a lottery pick after his sophmore season.  Ryan Harrow unless he has just gotten way better I don’t get why everyone is so high on him.  Yes he is athletic and quick but we are not talking about Derrick Rose or Ty Lawson in either of those departments.  Also unless the guy has learned to consistently hit the college 3 ball he is going to struggle scoring because teams will lay off of him like they did 2 years ago where he was very underwhelming.  This UK team again will be thin depth wise and I think they will struggle to score but they do have a high defensive upside.  I could see this UK team being a 2 seed in the tourney , an 8 seed , or anywhere in between.  College basketball is wide open this year despite what some think about Louisville and IU.

Harrow’s freshman year was better than Teague’s? How?

Harrow freshman year stats: 9.3 PPG, 3.3 APG, 1.9 RPG

Teague freshman year stats: 10.0 PPG, 4.8 APG, 2.5 RPG

Teague won a national championship, played his best ball in the tourney when it actually counts the most, was a first round pick, not to mention Teague’s upside is way higher than Harrow’s as well.

The hype on Harrow needs to really die down, like spacegrass said unless he just has gotten head and shoulders better he will not be a lottery pick, now with his tools and UK’s system do I think he could be an NBA player one day? Of course, every starting PG for Calipari has made it to the NBA(6/6) so I’m not going to go against Harrow making it to the league, it’s all right there for him, but he just isn’t as good as the previous PG’s to me and at 165 pounds he is going to need to get alot stronger for the next level.

is probably real….but it’s based on the fact that a stacked team which kentucky is starting to regularly pull in will do well…..he will be carried by the other talent on the roster and be the starting pg for a good team that will play and possibly do well in the tournment……..all he has to do is play solid in the tourney with him still being young with "upside" and boom lotto pick.

Not true, Teague played very well in the tourney, won a championship, has more upside than Harrow and he damn near went 2nd round.

Harrow will have to play out his mind to be a lottery pick.
