StingRay07ParticipantHi everybody! I’ve been coming to this site for mock drafts / draft info since about 03 or 04. For the past week or so I’ve started reading stuff on the forum, so I figured I should probably join in on the madness.
I was wondering what you all thought about the draft prospects for some of the players on the Indiana Hoosiers for 2013 and beyond, because as an IU grad, I’m totally biased.
Cody Zeller will likely be a top 5 pick whenever he comes out (don’t be surprised if he stays another year). I watched every game last year, and this guy has a tremendous upside as an NBA PF. His offensive game I believe has already surpassed Tyler’s, and he runs the floor just as well. His ability to finish around the basket after contact is amazing. We’ll see what he does this year because I thought he needed to improve his defense and rebounding. But I don’t see why that can’t happen.
Christian Watford – I think he’s an interesting 2nd round pick next year. He’s not really muscular, but he’s actually a pretty good rebounder. He has improved his jump shot a lot. I think he’ll probably be a 3 in the NBA. He actually showed last year that he can be a decent perimeter defender, as he would often guard the opposing team’s ball handler.
Jordan Hulls – probably a D-Leaguer or somewhere overseas. He’s a great shooter, but is very short and doesn’t have great PG skills.
Victor Oladipo – The most interesting prospect to me. He’s a freak athlete and a lockdown defender. At 6’4", he doesn’t have ideal size, but is big enough to be a 2 in the NBA. He’s really good off the dribble and can absorb contact and draw the foul. However, I would cringe every time he took a jump shot. If he can improve in that area this year, I think he will go in the first round. I believe he has the talent to be a lottery pick, but I doubt that will happen.
Will Sheehey – A jack of all trades, can definitely see him playing in the league.
And then we have this fantastic freshman class, but I can’t predict what they’ll do because I haven’t seen them play. Yogi Ferrell will be a lottery pick eventually though.
Sorry for the long first post! I figured I should start out with a bang haha. Super excited for this draft and IU’s quest for a 6th banner.

TRC1991ParticipantNeither Hulls nor Sheehey will sniff the pro’s

apb540ParticipantThis is one of my favorite prospects heading into next year. I think he has a lot of potential and I actually see a little bit of Jrue Holiday in him, minus a consistent long range shot.

providencefriars1ParticipantYa Zeller and Watford will be drafted and we will see in a few years with Ferell and Perea. Oladipo has the athleticism to make the NBA but next year’s draft looks to be pretty deep already.

StingRay07Participant@taylor – agree with you on Hulls. You might be right about Sheehey, but I think he has a shot. The guy has a great work ethic, is one of the better athletes on the team, and has a decent jumper.

hiphopismylifeParticipantGood choice for your first forum topic!
My only disagreement is that you left Jeremy Hollowell off that list. 6’8 guys with his ability to handle, shoot, and create offense are in limited supply even in the league. I think he has easy first round talent in 2 or 3 years.
He’s shown tremendous growth in the last year with his motor, aggressiveness, and athleticism. He still has room to grow but an offseason around the high-character gymrats around this program could really help him reach that potential.

TRC1991ParticipantOladipo is a super athletic defensive 2 guard who is similar to Tony Allen in the skillset department

raybeasParticipantabout Zeller maybe staying another year. He was valedictorian of his HS class, as was one of his brothers (Luke I believe), and education is important in his family. He probably has to be a top 5 lock to skip after his sophomore year. It currently looks like he will be, so he will have a tough choice to make.
Watford will get some looks from scouts next year, and could work his way into the late first round if IU makes a championship run. The consistency of his effort has to be there this year. He seems to take games, or stretches of games off sometimes. That shouldn’t happen as much as a senior.
Hulls may get a shot at playing in Europe, where his lack of speed won’t hurt him as much. He may be the best shooter in college next year. His playmaking is only average, and his defense is pretty poor.
Olidipo has to have scouts looking at him as a pro prospect. He really improved his ball handling last year, but still needs to tighten it up. His outside shot needs a ton of work to get him into the first round, but his length, athleticism and D will get him a second round shot.
Sheehey made a huge jump from his frosh to soph years. Similar improvement over the next two years will put him in the draft mix.
Yogi Ferrell needs to hit the weight room hard this summer. He will probably get about 20 mins a game, maybe more if he proves he can run the team whiles Hulls slides to SG in a small lineup.
Hollowell has talent, but will be behind Watford and Sheehey at SF. Perea needs to add bulk to mix it up in the Big Ten.
It will be interesting to see Trey Lyles growth, physically and skills-wise over the next two years before he gets to IU in 2014.
