Apparently Brandon Roy wants back in the NBA and he said he will ONLY sign with a contender… Before, i had sympathy for him but now i hope no one signs him because he’s being picky, he better hope any team takes a chance on him…"Beggers can’t be choosers" brandon..Thoughts?

He said he would love to come back and play for the Blazers. He said that the organization and community are still special to him. Unfourtunatly, league rules won’t allow him to be a Blazer for another 2 years.

Also, why wouldn’t he want to go to a contender? He has major injury issues so I don’t see him going to a bad team and grinding out 40 mins per game. If he goes to a contender they will be a deep team that is able to rest him.

Makes sense. Why would he make a comeback to play on a bad team? If healthy he could be a player that could put a team on the brink of a title over the top.

Source on this? I don’t really see him saying that with no guarantees he will even come back to the league.

Anyways if what you say is the case if he can prove that he can play 20-25 minutes a game and stay healthy, then I don’t see why he shouldn’t be trying to play for a contender. If healthy he’s a top 5 SG and even being half healthy he’s probably still a top 10 SG. Obviously we don’t know what Brandon Roy will show up when he does come back, but I’m still sure he will be better than most SG’s due to his IQ, skill set (which never relied too much on athleticism) and so forth.

I don’t see why him wanting to come back to a contender would make you not want him to get signed. Don’t get me wrong, if he was like 35 then I would understand him going to a rebuilding team as a veteran presence, but he’s only 27 don’t forget. If he’s coming back with any risk of his knees getting worse, then why would he be doing it for a team just to lose, if he’s going to play he needs to know it’s actually going towards something good; like a championship. So no I don’t expect him to go any re-building teams, I would actually be pissed off if he does a player of his caliber and knee issues shouldn’t be risking his body for anything less than a chance to win a ring.

    Like always my two cents.

Anybody has a right to choose who they work for, especially a former all-star trying to make a comeback.  Playing as a role player for a doormat team would make no sense for him.  I think a contender would welcome a high character guy like Brandon Roy as long as he doesn’t want an unreasonable contract.  It would be cool to see him reinvent himself a la Grant Hill and extend his career for a few years.  Work on that jumpshot Brandon and you will be golden!

anybody think hed be a great fit coming off the bench with james harden? if he ends up being half of what he was, and can sustain that for 3 or 4 years. boy him on the thunder not only would they have one of the best starting 5, but then id say there a young inside presence from literally winning every title for the next 6 years.

Pacers lack that star player. Granger is great, but he is certainly not Roy. He could really put them over the top, but the Lakers, Bulls, HEAT all seem like good choices too. If DWill goes to Dallas then I can see Roy there too. I am sure if he can still perform he will probably get a call from most teams in the league.

Brandon Roy isn’t gonna be able to carry a team right when he comes back, he DESTROYED both of his knees,  he’s gonna need some talent around him as he learns to play with the after effects of his injury. Why would he want his comeback season to be with some lottery team or something, he needs to go somewhere where he can find out where he’s at right now, for god’s sake the guy had to retire for a little bit, he’s unsure as we are probably. I love Brandon Roy, he’s one fo my top 10 favorites in the past decade and I hope for any sort of return by him.

He could play a starter role in fron of Manu, he wouldn’t be held accountable for all the offense in San Antonio.

The Spurs may be used to someone with bad knees (DeJuan Blair, the ACL-less wonder) And with their depth, they could start him off with 20-25 minutes and increase his minutes slowly as the season progresses.

Are you serious? naww can’t be.. dude is playing Bone on Bone why would he not come back for a contender? you would rather him go to the bobcats and lose for the next 5 years playing 30 minutes a game and hurting himself for no reason huh?

He would have got the pay out from his Portland contract so should be able to take a near minimum deal. I’d assume that initially any deal would be one year as this would be logical for both sides if the comeback didn’t work he could easily walk away and if he proves his fitness and form then he could get a longer and better deal.

I wonder if he could turn himself into more of a PG so he could control his own tempo and as the ball carrier he would not need to make so many moves off the ball and thus he reduces extra movement and lots of turning etc.

Also if he worked on his 3 point shooting etc, this could compensate for him not driving to the basket like before.

I think he prefers to stay closer to the West, but keep an eye on the Pacers and the Kevin Pritchard connection.

You just sound bitter he doesn’t want to play for Detroit.

    Never call B-Roy a beggar.

I feel so bad for him man, worse than I did for Greg Oden. He was one of my favorite players in his years as a Blazer, and man he was so good. When Kobe compliments you like he did for Roy, you know you’ve reached greatness. It’s sad to have to see it end only after a few years, he was on his way to a HOF with the way he played in his prime

Also, I agree that the Bulls would be a great fit, but I would love to see him coming off the bench with Harden to take some minutes from Cook and give us some extra punch. He would be an excellent addition for us (but now all we need is Carl Landry….make it happen, Presti)

He’s a great player, but I don’t think he’s gonna play full starter minutes at the beginning. If his knees respond well, he’ll make the transition to starter by the middle of the season. Anyway, I think Roy is capable of doing a great comeback. He’s dangerous even from the bench.
