Having lost in the NBA finals, basically the Thunder either look for a player who can contribute a few minutes right away to help the stars and maybe replace elder bench players who may move on or retire.

Khris Middleton offers nice intangibles at SG/SF whilst Tony Wrotten and Quincy Miler both offer a lot of upside for a lowishrisk pick. Doron Lamb comes off a winning team so will fit in well with the Thunder’s current culture.

Fab Melo is interesting but with Cole Aldrich not seeing huge minutes taking another big is not really logical.

Draymond Green is described on his profile on this site as aa glue guy so has to be considered as a possible long term replacement for Nick Colinson and Nick would be a great mentor for him.

Evan Fournier is my other wildcard in case the Thunder want aa European stasher who they could perhaps trade on in a year or two if they want to make a deal or to save on cap spending.

    The preference for picks are:-

    1, Quincy Miller

    2 Tony Wrotten

    3. Khris Middleton

    4. Draymond Green

    5. Doron Lamb

    6. Evan Fournier

If I am not online when the draft happens please take the highest available pick from the 6 listed above.

Whoever they draft they will probably stock overseas, they already have 12 players under contract for next season and Aldrich and Jackson don’t get enough playing time as is. Seeing as they can then allow that guy more time to develop I would take Fournier or someone with greater upside than Middleton or Green (Wroten definitely does not work on this team) like Miller or Jared Cunningham.

I’ve heard that OKC staff doesn’t want another young player with guaranteed contract so they’re gonna probably trade this pick or take Evan Fournier who would stay in Europe.

    LodZio20,

I can kind of see where the Thunder are coming from with wanting to stash a guy overseas. But they really won’t be able to
improve their team outside of late first rounders and free agents at the league minimum. And this draft is pretty good at 20-35.

Right now they have 2 superstars, two good young core type guys, but they could stand to get another good player or two.

If Draymond Green he would give them another facilitator and rebounder. He can also shoot some. They could also use him at the 4 in small lineups. Ezelli would be a solid backup center. They can get him as a backup 7 foot shotblocker then trade Cole Aldrich for a 2nd rounder and a cheap veteran/deep bench role player guy.

The Thunder need a 3rd/4th scorer and a 3rd/4th big who could also play some small forward, pass, and shoot. Draymond Green could be that guy if he is there.

I said it earlier and I still think that losing out on Battier was big for OKC. He is a wing defender, a 3 point threat, and a great leader. He could also be a team’s fifth or sixth scoring option. He could have gone against Durant in practice and then against LeBron in the Finals. I think the Thunder need a guy like that. Maybe Jeff Taylor could be that guy. So if Green isn’t there then they should look at Taylor.

Another guy on my watch list would be Doron Lamb. He can shoot and defend. He is a 2 guard but he played some point in college. With him in the lineup they could play Westbrook off the ball and Lamb would give OKC a guy who can spread the floor. He would also provide some insurance if James Harden leaves.

I think OKC is best off drafting and stashing. There is not a guy they need or a guy that I am sure that they will be able to draft that improves  their team. They are stacked at every spot except up front. You expect Ibaka to improve. I’m not sure if any of the guys available are going to play better d, rebound better or provide any type of post scoring so it’s pretty much wasting their time. The only thing that might make sense is drafting a guy to brace for the likely departure or trade of Ibaka or Harden, and even then they have so many young guys it doesn’t make a lot of sense.

if i was the thunder, Nicholson would be atop of the players im targetting. i would like to add a post player who can contribute on the offensive side on the low block. Sullinger would also be on my list of targets if the red flags causes him to slip that low. the kind of player i can see them targeting is a Leon Powe/Carl Landry type. the guy who can come off the bench and add a different dimension to the game since most of their offense are created from the perimeter.

if nobody of the like is available, then fournier is probably the guy im chearing for them.  reggie jackson was their contingcey pick for when maynor becomes a free agent, i see them taking a simillar approach towards ibaka and harden’s impending free agency status.

Heres a little idea. Why not trade #28 to Cleveland for #33 and #34? Thats a win-win because OKC doesnt get another gaurunteed contract yet still can add two prospects for the future and Cleveland gets a third 1st rounder to play with. Just a thought.

not a bad swap if you ask me. its all about who drops in the draft and if theres someone the thunder covets enough that will liklely be taken before the 33rd pick. I’d also like to add in Jeffrey Taylor in the players they could covet. the guy has good defensive potential in the perimeter and could be a replacement for Thabo who in 2 years will be asking for a pay raise after making some All-Defensive team selections.

Thanks for the feedback, personally I don’t see Cleveland giving up two nice 2nd rounders to move up only 5 places.  In reality I think the pick could well be sold or traded, NY, Brooklyn and Dallas could all easily look to buy in. If the Thunder did want to trade out of the first round then Charlotte’s 31st pick could well be an ideal swap with maybe Charlotte sending a future 2nd rounder to even things up or the Thunder might be happy with getting the best player with a none guaranteed deal.

The Thunder will eventually have to re-sign PF Serge Ibaka to a monster contract, so I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Thunder dump C Kendrick Perkins and his salary after next season.

Definitely think the Thunder go C at #28.

Fab Melo, Festus Ezeli and even Miles Plumlee are role playing big men the Thunder may target at #28.

    @cyclo

They won’t pick a C. Even if they do amnesty Perkins after next season they have Aldrich, Pleiss(Suposedly coming over to Thunder this year), and a couple other guys that can slide into the C spot on occasion like Collison & even Ibaka.
