Everyone here seems to be quite certain the trade Washington made was crap, but was it really THAT bad?

Say the Wizards draft the way the 2012 mock suggests, then they’ve got a line up of:

    PG Wall (Crawford, Mack)

    SG Beal (Jenkins, Crawford)

    SF Ariza (Singleton)

    PF Nene (Vesely, Booker)

    C Okafor (Seraphin)

Now is this a bad team? They’ve got inside and outside scoring, they’ve got rebounding and they’ve got defense. The new guys – Nene (not as new), Okafor, Ariza – are not old at all. Why is it people say Sacramento doesn’t need any new youngsters, because they are already too young, but when Washington, who is in a similar situation, trades for veterans – they say their GM is stupid?

The only bad thing I see is that they’ve got one too many big men, I’d love them to trade one of their bigs for a good guard, maybe Stuckey for Okafor?

Borderline 7th or 8th seed. It all depends on Wall’s progression. Defensively they can compete with the likes of Seraphin, Ariza and Okafor. Outside of Beal and Crawford you dont have decent shooters though

     @Anton123 totaly agree

everybody forgets okafor and ariza are PO players : ariza was a key player for the lakers team in defense, okafor is a steady player, hard defensive threat in the middle.

they are both very good defensive players and the wizzards got them for nothing (a 46 th pick…). So maybe it costs you some money but you add two very good pieces to become a serious PO contender.

Moreover it can be very useful to help seraphin and vesely/singleton to develop their game.

thats a very good team. On paper, its better then the 76ers who was the 8th seed and Milwaukee, IMO

this roster has depth inside and their SFs can defend. Wall does have to elevate his game and it does lack backcourt depth but maybe they can get someone in the 2nd round or MLE

the pistons trade stuckey for okafor. First joe d loves stuckey. Stucky and knight have started up a friendship and stucky played his best basketball after being moved to the sg.

Good bench Wall is still the key to whether they can make the playoffs

Since beal is supposed to be the next Eric Gordon the wizards will look like the hrnets of last year with the addition of wall. Rashad Lewis was overpaid and unmotivated so it was a great trade. I think we have a good gm. Way better than the one before him. He’ll get rid of blatche and give this team a better mindstate with more optimistic ballers.

I doubt they make the playoffs.  They have very little perimeter shooting and no great halfcourt shot creators.  I don’y see where their offense is coming from.  I doubt they finish ahead of Miami, Boston, NYK, Ind, Phi, Atl, Chi, or Orl, anf Brooklyn, Milwaukee, or Toronto coul easily be better.  They could prove me wrong, but they need John Wall to make a big jump and to establish themselves as a good defensive team.

Basically looks like the 76ers with fewer scorers.

    Why I liked the trade:

    1) We get veteran players that want to win, and bring a good locker room presence that we have been needing.

    2) Defensively we look solid.  Looks like we can compete hard every game.

    Why I didnt like:

    1) The players we got are overpaid. Rashard Lewis would of been out of the door soon to free up cap.  This limits our cap space to sign an above average players in FA, we instead are paying average players big money and are locked in them for a longer time..

2)This trade only makes us a borderline playoff team at best.  I dont want our future to be a borerline playoff team, but a team that can compete for the East and our Division.  This trade just spells being stuck with mediocrity and not much more.  Sure we aren’t as bad, but we need the building blocks to build the right team.  We need to build it through the draft. I rather suck another year and get a another top 5 pick in a deep draft and build around wall + beal.

    3) Players like Ariza and Okafor cut into the developmental time of Seraphin and Singleton.

    4) Grunfeld is gonna be the Wizards GM longer caase they are gonna win more games for now, but this damages the team more for the future. How do you not fire a man that first paid Gilbert 100 mil, traded our lotto pick for Foye and Miller, sign Blatche to a longer deal, and more to make us into the joke we are today.
