TRC1991ParticipantOne of the big pieces of the Miami puzzle that many people have seemingly been ignoring is the emergence of head coach Erik Spoelstra. Coach Spo, as he’s known, did an unbelievable job this postseason changing his lineup to go small to open up the offense and create a mismatch. Last year, he got brutally outcoached by Rick Carlisle and it didn’t help that his players weren’t contributing their share but this season was far different… A couple things I want to point out:
– in the game 1 loss to OKC, Haslem played 29 minutes, Bosh came off the bench, and Joel Anthony managed to see the court… after that loss, I was thinking to myself, how the hell is Chris Bosh not starting?
– in game 2, Bosh starts, Haslem plays just 16 minutes, and Anthony doesn’t see the court …. this is called a coaching adjustment and guess what? Miami won game 2
– Shane Battier’s NBA finals line (37.6 mpg, 61% FG shooting, 58% 3PT shooting, 11.6 ppg, 3.4 rpg) can be attributed to two things: A) Battier being a clutch veteran and stepping up to the plate and B) COACH SPO PLAYING SHANE BATTIER 38 MINUTES PER GAME!
Now, I want to point out that although I don’t think the Heat can manage all of next season with a starting frontcourt of Bosh, Battier, and Lebron, coach Erik Spoelstra was managing his lineup with efficiency and confidence that Scott Brooks simply couldn’t match.
It was extremely fun watching the Heat play, they didn’t have a single space-eater at any time on the court and were clearly the most challenging to guard due to the constant mismatches and group of hot shooters (chalmers, battier, miller)
Congrats again coach, what a jump 1 year made

What The DevilParticipantI agree he deserves a lot of credit especially after a lot of people wanted him fired multiple times throughout the past two seasons

MJ FOR LIFE 23ParticipantAgreed. He’s still young and will only get better at this point. His confidence will definitely be boosted by the championship. Being half Filo myself, I’m happy for him.

Anton123ParticipantHey, if a guy is shooting 58% from 3 and playing good defense – you’ll get killed for not playing him 38 mpg

TRC1991Participantrighttt….. but then again, its the same player that shot 32%, 27% and 35% from deep in the first 3 series and was still getting 28, 29 and 38 minutes per game

ghettosermonParticipantEvery time the Heat lose a game Spo is supposed to be fired according to most. People need to forget about Pat Riley he’s not going to coach anymore and Spo gets more hate than he should. He’s the person I’m most happy for winning the title. You have to root for a guy like him who never got a shot to play in the league and had to work from entry level positions to become a head coach. The truth is he’s a great defensive coach and also runs great sets. The one area he needs to work on is late game execution and adjustments, but truthfully when you have LeBron and Dwade on your squad in those moments it’s kind of up to them. I’m rooting for him despite hating Miami because the fact is he’s a quality coach who coached circles around the overrated Scotty Brooks, and even though he could be fired at the snap of a finger if Bron and Wade asked for it, I hope whatever titles Miami wins in the next 10 years Spo is the coach instead of some old time big name who steps into the perfect situation. It’s Scotty Brooks who needs to be re-evaluated because he coached a poor finals and the Thunder could definitely improve with better coaching, poise, and organization.
