Is anyone else having as much trouble with their mock drafts as I am?  It just seems like it was pretty straight-forward last year, and this year it’s so hard to decide who goes where and why.

The main issues I am having start with the #2 pick, which really could mess up my entire draft if I don’t get the pick right.  That’s what I’m afraid of.  The Bobcats are looking to trade, but I’m not sure if they will find one or not.  If not, I’m torn by who they would select.  Drummond?  Robinson?  Barnes?  MKG?  It’s just all a very confusing process this year, as there is a ton of talent coming out this year.

I’m also having trouble putting the power forwards in place.  Specifically Sullinger, Moultrie, PJ III, and John Henson.

For some reason, I feel like I’m rating Jeremy Lamb and Tyler Zeller too high, and Jared Sullinger and Terrence Jones too low.

This year is crazy.  Plain and simple.  Do any of you have any insight on where you put some important prospects and why?  It’d be much appreciated.  Thank you.

I don’t know what the teams at the top will choose to do, but assuming no trades, this is what I would do:

    1) Davis

    2) T-Rob

    3) K-G

    4) Beal

    5) Barnes

    6) Lillard

    7) Drummond

Its always crazy. Every year the draft is hard to get right. Last year was not straight forward. So many people thought Utah would pick Brandon Knight at 3 but he ended up going 8th instead. Then the Cavs surprised everyone at 4 and picked Tristan Thompson. (Everyone had him going in the mid first round, no one thought he would be a top 5 pick.) I could go on but I think you get the point, no draft is straight forward.

Here are my thoughts on this year’s draft. The Bobcats have thought about the trading the pick, but so far have been unsuccessful. Even though I think it would be smart if they did, they might not trade it at all because their team is so weak and no one wants who they have. This is why the Bobcats should go with Drummond, he has the most potential out of anyone. The only reason why he is not the first pick is because of his poor season at Uconn. Regardless, his high potential and the fact that the Bobcats need so much, they should try their best to strike gold. They’ll will definitely need it. If they do find a trade then, it will depend on where they land after the trade is made. Possible picks if this happens are T-Rob, Barnes, and MKG

The PF’s, Sullinger, Moultrie, Henson, and PJ3, I’ll first talk about PJ3. Technically he’s not a PF.  He plays like a 3 but could also be considered a stretch 4. He could go as early as 7 to the Warriors but that’s likely not to happen because the Warriors didn’t like etither of the Jones’ in workouts. He did so poorly at Baylor, and it seems he has a lack of motivation or physicality, so many teams are not liking that. This may surprise some people but even though he is thought to have a lot of potential he could slide out of the lottery! I have him at 20 right now to Denver, but he could also go to Milwaukee at 12 or Dallas at 17.

Sullinger is probably the least athletic player in the draft, yet because he is so polished he is likely to go late lottery, It seems that New Orleans really likes him, and it makes sense because he would pair well with eventual draftee, Davis. But if he doesn’t go 10th then 12 or 14 or 15 are also possible spots for him. I don’t think he goes lower than 15 though.

Moultrie is someone that this site seems to love, but not just this site, it seems scouts love him to. To some scouts he is the Lemarcus Aldridge, but regardless his low maturity level, and low BBIQ will cause him to slip. I have him going 14th to Houston. That may seem a littel high to some of you, but as I said before scouts seem to really like him. His length, and agility, I think is what will be appealing to Houston, who desperately needs a big man. They are likely to miss out on Leonard and Zeller though, so they may have to settle for 6’11 Moultrie. If he doesn’t go 14th, then he could also go 15th to Philly, 17th to Dallas, 19th to Orlando, 20 to Denver or to the Celtics at either 21 or 22. He doesn’t go lower than 22 though.

Zeller is a very polished 7 footer. Teams like him and he is likely to be a lottery pick because he is so polished and a legit 7 footer. I have him going 12th to the Bucks because they recently traded away Bogut, and could really use someone to take his spot. Jeremy Lamb is someone this site seemed to have a loe affair for, and I never could figure out why. To me he is no more than a role player and not a first option star as this site seemed to think of him as. He had a poor showing at the combine so he could slip. He could go as high as 8 to Toronto or as low as 13 to Pheonix. Toronto is said to really like him, but Rivers also had a good showing in his workout their. Austin really liked it there and felt like he could fit in. I feel its either Lamb or Rivers at 8 for the Raptors. Pheonix supposedly has promised to select Dion Waiters at 13 so its likely that Lamb will go 8 to Toronto, 10 to the Hornets, or 11th to Portland.

Terrance Jones seems to be very mediocre. No one likes to pick a mediocre player in the lottery. I have him slipping pretty far to 23 with the Hawks. But his stock is around 17-24 range.

This draft is very deep. So many high potential players have declared this year. This means that many of those high potential players may miss the lottery, and some may not. If I were you I’d reserve the lottery for only those players who are active, want to win and really apply themselves. Don’t put someone in the lottery just because of his potential, he may also have little motivation or a BBIQ and teams like those things, most even more than potential or athleticism. Pay attention to workouts the combine and team needs. This is the time of year where I keep a close eye on this site.

The order between 2 and 5 keeps flipping over in my mind, now we hear that the Cavs like Beal an then you have to consider where players best fit. For example T-Rob is a great prospect but Washington have good PF depth so maybe he doesn’t go there etc.

If we once know what Charlotte will do the things maybe fall more inti place.

I feel the same way! I feel like the players are dropping even though they are deemed higher picks. For example in my mock Arnett Moultrie and Jared Sullinger, I just don’t see them fitting in places other than the places I put them in.

I think Charlotte will go to Harrison Barnes, he is a volume scorer and that is something that the Bobcats need. MJ will groom him into a good player and why not choose a player from UNC? He will be close to his college and will be a fan favourite.

last time jordan showed some hometown UNC love he took felton top 5 and used a lotto pick on sean may. I know you have to forget about the past when you draft for today, but i dont think he will give extra consideration towards barnes since hes from unc. Of course jordan has been terrible at drafting so who knows what hes thinking. I didnt like kemba last year either.
