With the International withdrawal deadline approaching (June 18) I thought I’d be hearing more about who’ll be keeping their name in or who will withdraw, but it’s been pretty quiet, so I thought I’d ask you guys about some guys.

Evan Fournier: will he stay in? He’s the top international player, but it seems like his stock his slipping to the point where he might be a 2nd round pick, but I think he’ll stay, still not sure.

Tomas Satoransky: He’ll be drafted in the 2nd round most likely in the draft, but he was once slated as a first round pick. Will he want to go back to Europe to firther develop his PG skills and his jumpshot.

Furkan Aldemir: I’m fairly confident about him staying in the draft, 2nd round pick that won’t gain much by returning to Europe.

Tornike Shengelia: Stock went up after his Eurocamp performance, don’t think it would get much higher going back to Europe for another player.

Josep Franch: I was surprised that he declared, and I am equally surprised he hasn’t withdrawn yet. I don’t think he’ll get drafted this year because he needs to improve his jump shot though. Will he stay though.

Joffrey Lauvergne: Like Franch, I’m surprised he withdrew and I guess he’s just waiting until the last possible minute to withdraw.

Mindaugas Kupsas: Little to No chance of being drafted, he should withdraw and see if his skills develop.

So those are my assesments based on my opinion, but I could be totally off because there’s been little talk about international players this year. Which of these prospects will stay and which will go? Any other international prospects lingering in the draft pool that I’m missing?

I really think that Tomas Satoransky can be a legit NBA PG…getting drafted and being sent back to further develop will be good for him… He will be the best international player out of this class. I really like the fact that he can defend different positions on the court…I like international players with fire and desire to guard…

The other kid Evan is alright but I see more of a NBA player in Tomas

Actually, if I am a European prospect, I would enter the draft as soon as I am eligible to be drafted, then hoping that I would be undrafted regardless whether I would be drafted in the 1st round or not.  The reason is that being drafted by a team would "lock" myself up with a team that I may or may not be interested to play for.  Being an undrafted prospect, I would have the opportunity to sign with whoever I want if I actually into a good player down the road.  That’s why I don’t understand why any European prospects would like to withdraw from the draft if they know they will go undrafted.  Being undrafted is a blessing in disguise especially for those who are late bloomer.

As a 1st round pick, the player is locked up with the rookie scale which could be near veteran minimum if it’s a late first round pick.  Being a 2nd round pick though would allow the player to negiotiate with the team for whatever amount of money.  So it can happen that a 2nd round pick or an undrafted player can get paid much more than a 1st round pick if the guy is proven to be good.

That’s why a few years ago, Serge Ibaka’s agent asked all teams with 1st round pick to not draft Ibaka because he knows as a 2nd round pick, Ibaka would be able to get more money.  However, the Thunder just ignored the urge and drafted him at #24 anyway.  This locked Ibaka up for cheap salary for 4 years.  If Ibaka was drafted in the 2nd round, I think he would have made much more as a rookie than now.

An example of a 2nd round pick being paid much more than a 1st round pick is Goran Dragic.  His contract was around 2mil a year which would be much more than most late 1st round picks.
