jhbm24ParticipantWhat if the Raptors offerd the 8th pick +
For Kyle Lowry? Would Houston take this deal?
Do you guys think this is a deal that would work for both teams? Lettin Dragic become the starter and get Leonard with the 8th pick.

Born ReadyParticipanti actually like the sounds of this deal, the raps need a guard to get to the hole and create his own shot however if they draft rivers i feel calderon is a good fit offensively. i dont like lowry and rivers would mesh well, what do you guys think?

jhbm24ParticipantThrough this trade they wouldn’t get Austin rivers. So Lowry with derozen sounds pretty good along with bargniani and Valencia.

Born ReadyParticipantwhat about throwing in caledron and ed davis for lowry?

jhbm24ParticipantI don’t think Houston would want to take on calderons contract.

Neville15ParticipantUnless I’m mistaken I thought Calderon was in the last year of an expiring contract coming into this season so he may possibly be a worthwhile asset coming off the books in the following year? If Houston is choosing to go with Dragic and are dealing Lowry then possibly they could get a third team (most likely in the rebuilding stages) involved who is interested in taking on Calderon’s expiring contract for one season?

220ParticipantIs Dragic a restricted free agent? If he is then this deal would make sense seeing as they could match any offer for him. If he isn’t then I wouldn’t be comfortable trading Lowry unless I thought I could get another equally good point guard with the pick which I don’t think is the case.

benny15ParticipantMayers Leonard at 8 for houston? are we expecting him to be this year’s tristan thompson? would houston like getting him, yes, is he that much of a cant miss prospect to be taken at 8, i dont think so. Leonard can very well fall to the rockets at 14. we’re talking about a high motor big man with good athletic abilities but over-all a raw game. he can turn out well such as Joakim Noah, but Noah was much better comming out of college and had achieved more as well. Leonard is closer to Robin Lopez who is good at spurts, but still gets to foul trouble too often for my liking. think leonard might be of simillar mold during his rookie contract. having said so, he’s someone i wouldnt select at 8.
this deal is very good for the raptors and so so the rockets unless they’re looking at bolstering their back-court with Rivers, Lilard, J.Lamb, or Waiters who all should still be available at 8.

SwatLakeCityParticipant220, he’s not. Dragic is an unrestricted free agent. This is the first year that he will demand a bigger salary because of what he did the previus season. That’s why I don’t like this deal. The Rockets don’t have the money to resign Dragic, not the money that he deserves. There will be another team that can and wants to sign him for more. Maybe for Calderon and Ed Davis, but I don’t think they want Calderon and his contract when they will already have to offer a lot just to keep Dragic. And isn’t Ed Davis no different than Jordan Hill. They already tried him at Center and that didn’t work, whose to say Davis will? They could also trade Lowry for the 8th pick, but are they that committed to Dragic. I mean its not like Lowry is that bad. Both Dragic and Lowry are very similar players they just can’t keep both of them so who is more valuable to them? They did draft Lowry and trust him more than Aaron Brooks and he delivered. They just got Dragic in a trade because they needed to trade Brooks in order to show Lowry they are committed to him. Did they all of a sudden change their committance just 1 year later, I don’t think so.
And besides the Raptors don’t really need Lowry not when they have a very good passing PG, Even though he is injury prone they do have another PG that is ready to go off whenever Calderon goes down. Does Lowry really want to be in that situation again? He could go down again just like he did this year, and once again Bayless goes off and Toronto doesn’t know who to start. Risk injury and start Lowry or Bayless. I’d go Bayless just like the Rockets when they were faced with a similar decision this year after Lowry went down and Dragic went off, then Lowry healed up and they didn’t want to risk injury and start him as well as risk chemistry since Dragic was on a roll, whose to say that same think won’t happen in Toronto with Bayless? Does Lowry really want to be in that situation again, I don’t think so.
I really think the Rockets should just keep Lowry and offer the 14 and 16th picks+ to the Warriors for the 7th and 30th picks. Then they can draft Leonard with the 7th pick, and still be in position to draft Teague, who they like, with the 30th pick. The Warriors benefit from the trade as well, they can be in a better spot to draft a SF. Harkless will still be available at both 14 and 16, they like Harkless but aren’t too exicited about either of Jones’. They can even draft a big man like Moultrie with the other pick and help their backcourt frontline. They could use Moultrie in case Bogut goes down again.

benny15Participanti like the idea of the warriors trade for the warriors more than for the rockets. also, the rockets did not draft Lowry, they traded for him when they sent rafer alston to the magic the year orlando made the finals but had jameer nelson injured in his all-star season. he was drafted by the grizzlies who was assigned as conley’s back-up but because they felt one had to go for either or both to progress, they parted with lowry for a draft pick who ended up being DeMarre Carroll who they ended up trading later on for Shane Battier as a salary filler.
but i do agree that dealing Lowry in the draft would be very dangerous for the rockets for the simple fact that Goran is an unrestricted free agent on a year that the best free agent is a point guard, Deron Williams, and severall other teams are clearing up space to make a run at him. so whoever wants me that made cap space but struck out, then the next option might be Dragic already. sure, Steve Nash and Chauncey Billups are unrestricted point guards as well, but those veterans will be choosing to either resign with their current club or go to a contender. personally, i’d like brooklyn to resign Deron, the mavs to sign Nash and the clippers or nuggets to take Billups. but where does that leave teams such as Utah and Portland who need a starting caliber point guard to grow with them and their core in the next few years.
dealing lowry on draft night, who debateably has the most value for money contract in the NBA outside of the rookie deal, will enter a whole lot of risks for Houston in the up-comming off-season.

chocboywndrParticipantThe Raaptors need to continue to get better through the draft. BC is impatient because he is worried about his contract. The fact is not only should they keep the 8th pick but they should try to aquire a later first round pick and build. Once they have enough young assests and know they have strong core to go forward with that is when you start to add playoff level veteran help.To start now is short sighted.

dmo21ParticipantWhat about if Toronto sends Calderon, Amir (plays more center and is better than Davis), forbes, and 8th pick for Lowry and Martin? Toronto would have a lineup of lowry(bayless), Martin(bayless), derozan(j.johnson),bargnani(kleiza), valanciunas(Davis). Houston would then draft Leonard, Ross, and Teague. Their lineup would be Calderon(Teague), Budinger(Ross/Forbes), parsons(Morris), scola(Patterson), dalembert(Johnson/Leonard). Very deep team with lots of size.

SwatLakeCityParticipantStill dmo21 trading Lowry for the Rockets is risky even more so if they include Martin in the deal as well. I’d much rather start a player I know can contribute at SG, a player with experience instead of a rookie (Ross) or Budinger who is more of a 3 than a 2.
