MakarosParticipantBob Ryan is reporting that the Cs may trade for Emeke Okafor and the 10th pick from New Orleans and then use their two picks (21+22) along with the 10th one in order to move up the draft and grab Harrison Barnes.
Granted he and Jeff Green and Paul Pierce are one too many SFs for a team I expect Jeff Green to NO if this does indeed go down.
What are your thoughts on the matter?

ChrisCrossParticipantthey can try, but I really doubt they are going to be able to make those moves. I could see them getting #10 and looking to add someone there, but Barnes…doubt it

MakarosParticipantHonestly, I cannot see any of the top 5 teams going for it either but I saw it out there and thought it was worth mentioning.
The only one would be the Bobcats because they are just so bad that they can use an influx of talent but still I really doubt that MJ will resist on drafting Drummond..

surveParticipantthey have to move up pretty far…4th at least to be safe. All the teams in the top 5 could use those picks. Especially Cleveland, where they could grab a SG like Doron Lamb and maybe a guy like Q. Miller. I could see other teams like the Heat moving up slightly for one of those 21-22 picks and maybe grabbing a guy like Jeffrey Taylor or Fab Melo.

Wahoo757ParticipantBarnes is going to go either 2 or 4 in my opinion, so it’s going to be nearly impossible for the C’s to be able to get him without giving up too much to get him. If he slips to say 6 or 7, the C’s might be in contention for him, but only if that happens.

FearTheStacheParticipantI’m a huge Celts fan so i’d be really happy, but, damn, it would ruin my mock

omphalosParticipantI would absolutely love it if we got Barnes, Barnes is my favourite prospect in this year’s draft, and the Celtics are my team. But if Ainge trades Rondo (my favourite player) to get him, I’m going to be upset.
If they are basing it on the 10th pick I don’t like their chances though, no chance Barnes falls past GSW.

KHAM83ParticipantI realize they’ll be giving the pick as compensation for taking Okafor off their hands, but is getting rid of his salary worth losing the 10th pick in this draft? If they draft Davis #1, wouldn’t they want a bruiser like Okafor next to him until he gains some muscle?
0 - Posted on: Fri, 06/15/2012 - 3:54pm #682304

TyroberParticipantCavs aren’t trading their #4 for 10,21, and 22. Cavs want an impact player and Barnes is a great fit for them. Can’t really see the Bobcats giving up the #2 for the 10, 21, and 22 either. I like Okafor to the Celtics though, but its not getting them Barnes too

JustaFanParticipantWho and what do the C’s give up to even get this trade started, their 2 picks? Even if they do get the ball rolling on this one, I hate to sound repetitive but Barnes never makes it past pick 5 anyway and Mek is on the books for 28 mil for the next 2 years… I’d pass.

apb540ParticipantI would cry if the C’s got my boy Harrison Barnes. I highly doubt it happens thou.

earldaniel31Participantif C’s were to re-sign Jeff Green then trade him for 10th pick + Okafor, i’m ok with that (not a really a fan of him).. but i’d rather have them keep 10, 21, 22 than trade them all for a chance to draft Barnes.. draft is deep, but not top heavy

donatoParticipant0% chance the Hornets do that deal.

MikezParticipant@surve, the lowest the heat can draft is 24, cavaliers have the options to switch picks.

TheDagger40ParticipantI would love to see Barnes in green next year but
I cannot imagine any possible scenrio where the Celtics move to the top 5

For_Never_EverParticipantHow much is Emeke Okaford contract ??
0 - Posted on: Fri, 06/15/2012 - 5:16pm #682330
aamir543ParticipantI love it, taking on Okafor’s contract, and then looking to package the three picks to move into the top 5, love it, great idea by Danny Ainge, Okafor does have a sort of ugly contract, 13.5 million this year and 14.5 the next, the Celts could chose to amnesty it, and then still be able to sign KG, probably not Ray Allen because word is that he wants to go elsewhere, but maybe Jeff Green, but I believe he’ll be an unrestricted FA, but love this for Boston, if they can get Green and KG, and get Barnes, that would be great, even without Green, getting Barnes somehow would be great for them.
As for the Hornets, it’s not worth giving up a top 10 pick and a big body to take the work load off of Davis for unloading contract, although i could understand if they were saving the amnesty in case a big money guy like Gordon has injury problems that derail him, but I don’t like the idea for New Orleans.
And this is still a damn conflict of interest!!!!!!!! The league STILL owns the Hornets, they’re still calling the shots, “No conflict of interest” my a$$ David Stern.

FearTheStacheParticipant^^2 things
1. Celts can’t amnesty him cause teams can only amnesty players that were on the roster at the time the amnesty was set
2.As of today, the hornets are owned by tom benson
0 - Posted on: Fri, 06/15/2012 - 5:28pm #682335
earldaniel31Participanttrade for 10th pick & Okafor..
use the 10th pick + someone & trade it for Josh Smith; Rondo + Smith back together
by 2012-2013 use the amnesty on Okafor; re-sign Smith for a lil’ less money then pursue D12; D12 + Smith + Rondo; Pierce’s contract is only partially guaranteed (i think he & KG retires this season)

For_Never_EverParticipantI can never understand when all this swapping picks, players, cash, amnesty, all happening at once. It just gets confusing for me.
0 - Posted on: Fri, 06/15/2012 - 5:39pm #682338
aamir543ParticipantThanks Uconn Monster, didn’t realize that, so that would put any Jeff Green siging out of questiton, but when you have the chance to package those picks, or just use them as they are, you gotta take it, but having Barnes would be great, but to be a contender they need to bring at least KG back, Avery Bradley needs to come up big, but Barnes would be a great injection of youth.
0 - Posted on: Fri, 06/15/2012 - 6:38pm #682364

akhan786ParticipantI like your idea because Rondo played with Josh Smith in highschool and Josh Smith played in AAU with Dwight.
That would be an extremely exciting and defensively intimidating core….

franfranParticipantBoston has to talk to Jordan, I’m sure will agree, Jordan is desperate and take dumb decisions.
0 - Posted on: Sat, 06/16/2012 - 3:20am #682423

220ParticipantIf the Hornets are getting the 21 and 22 picks for Okafor and the 10 pick, I’d do it. It’s always helpful to get out of big contracts from just ok players. Plus the Hornets have a bunch of holes and there should be a lot of solid prospects that will be available at 21 and 22. Okafor isn’t a bad player, but for the amount he’s making it’s worth dealing him.
0 - Posted on: Sat, 06/16/2012 - 6:51am #682473
CelticGreen617ParticipantThe trade up for Harrison Barnes sounds great but you guys are nuts to think the Cs would amnesty Okafor. If they did that they would essentially would sign and trade Jeff Green and the 10th, 21st, and 22nd pick for the right to draft Barnes and then pay (amnesty) Okafor $28M to disappear? No way the Cs do all that for one player who is unproven. If it happens with these components they keep Okafor or trade him for another piece. Danny Ainge wouldn’t be stupid enough to waste $28M and trade 3 picks for the right to draft an unproven lottery player. Think again.
