Austin Daye: the next Anthony Randolph

Please have you seen these 2 play and there styles? Nothing alike style wise at all.

I been high on Daye for a mintue….Chad ford must had listen to me cuz he put him at 15 like i did on espn.

Im telling you when i look at Daye…i see a guy who could be all-star. He can play but not to the level everyone thought he would….he will be a all-star..

Daye doesnt have nearly the athleticism as Randolph and as skinny as he is daye is even scronnier.

I like some things I see in him for his height, its just I don’t know if he does that verse NBA talent. He seems soft to me. Even thinner than Randolph was.

i’d say he has below average athleticism as an NBA 3 or 4 plus far below average strength. can he handle like Randolph? i didnt think he could, though i could be wrong. isn’t he a perimeter player? i see these 2 as very different players. i dont think he’ll have much of an NBA career. i guess he’s kinda like Darius Rice off the top of my head. anyone remember him from Miami? do yall see similarities?

Just because Daye has similar size (6’10) and Body Frame (Tayshaun Prince-like) as Randolph does not mean theyre the same type of player…Randolph has far more athleticism, Better foot speed, better leaping ability, and Plays with tenacity, Basically an elite level athlete who has decent shooting, on the other hand, Daye is overated, A good shot but what else? He’s not fast enough for the NBA, has no defense whatsoever, below level athleticism and plays very soft for his size, Randolph has way more upside and is already in a NBA rotation as a rookie, I highly doubt Daye breaks a rotation in his first three years….Dayes best case senario=A Poor,homeless Man’s Durant

Austin Daye isnt nearly the athlete that Randolph is…he isnt even on the same stratosphere in terms of quicknessand athletic ability. Daye is alot smoother than Randolph and has a better jumper, but he is slow and they arent comparable except for their size…The name of your topic shouldve been AUSTIN DAYE=Mike Dunleavy…thats the comparison

Randolph was a huge steal in last year draft (loaded with talent), youngest nba playa, still 19 YO.
The kid can just do it all, great all around game, great hustle, “just” needs to add 20 pounds, works on his midrange game, and we have an all star caliber, a josh smith’s rich rich rich rich man, stuck beetween 3 and 4, in my opinion he’s the future at SF with durant, but with nellie

He doesnt have nearly the footspeed as Randolph. Daye is a better shooting Jared Jeffries at best.

Daye is better than both of them…he can play O and D. Give him time.Put him on a team that he can sit on the bench for a sec and let him work his way in….

I’ve watched him play numerous games and I always hear about what a great pro prospect he is. But I’m just not seeing it. Other then being a versatile and tall perimter player, name one thing about him that stands out? I would’nt want my team using a high pick on him. Maybe end of the first or early second just based on potential.

Seriously, I would like to hear why you think so highly of him? He is tall and and versatile in that he can do a little of everything, but what makes you think he will be able to be a difference maker in the league? I have watched him play at least 10 times and I have not seen him show the ability to take over a game. He has sub par shooting, ball handling, passing, defense. And his athleticism is nothing special for the NBA. He is not strong and will get pushed around in the paint. He reminds me of a Julian Wright, but with less ballhandling, and Wright has not done anything in the NBA.

He is a good shooter, he can the 3 and 4. He rebounds like 3 and can pass well. He can also block shots. He is long. He needs seasoning. I think he goes between 13 and 22. People forget he was a top 10 prospect in the preseason. He had a quiet season. I dont think he’s gonna step in and give up 20 ,10 and 5.

Julian Wright….I dont agree with that. He is more of a undersize 4. Tim Thomas…i understand a bit… But also think about this…post Tim thomas numbers…it would like good on a guy who was a mid to late 1st rounder..Thomas was a top 10 pick

billyk is right. Looks just like Tim Thomas. Has all the tools and size just not the attitude. Disappears in games and no intensity.

Austin Daye = Vladimir Radmonivic lol. There is no way Daye will even come close to getting a block a game in the NBA, he just doesn’t bang down low like that. Randolph is a way better athlete, and even though he is skinny he doesn’t get pushed around as much as you would think. Daye is going to be a guy who throws up a lot of 3’s, because he somehow has this rep for being a great shooter. I think he should be picked in the second round.

This is interesting to me and let me start off by saying I am not saying Daye and Randolph will be as good as these two guys but reading this topic and hearing comments basically saying Randolph is a better athlete and plays with more intensity while Daye is smoother which I take smoother to be more skilled sounds to me like the Kevin Garnett versus Tim Duncan argument. While it would take a blind man to not see that Tim Duncan is the greatest Power Forward to every play the game you still will hear people say the Garnett plays with more intensity but they also admit Duncan is the smarter and more skilled player. I love both Garnett and Duncan just like I love the upside of both Randolph and Daye but I don’t think being more athletic is necessarily better than being more skilled just look at Duncan and Garnett.

Austin Daye is not nearly as good as Tim Thomas was coming out of Nova, nor will he have as productive an NBA career. He’ll probably never be anywhere close to as physical as Thomas (who has never really been physical himself) and he will probably never be a starter like Thomas has been. Yall are giving Daye too much credit. he’s much weaker than Thomas and less athletic than Thomas was at the same age. Thomas was once quite the prospect.

You’re right on alpha. Daye is young and has upside (not great, but there), but I just dont see him being as good as Timmy either.

I can feel that goodlife, personally I think that at BEST Daye can have a Tim Thomas like career…. I wouldnt waste a pick on Daye he is too soft and gets bullied real easy (no heart).
