mosdefParticipantno
Durant will be known as clutch and a champion
but LeBron will be still be known as the most talented player yet chokes in big situations

ReactionParticipantDurant will be known as most clutch and Lebron will be known as the most ridiculously built human specimen basketball player (as the people on ESPN say)

if durant wins, espn will vote durant the best player, and we all know happens after that.
i mean, there was talk about nowitzki being better than lebron after the finals last year but dirk’s season struggles proved otherwise.
there is already talk about durant possibly being the best, imagine if he wins.
this is coming from a heat fan, durant will be known as the biw

KayjayParticipantIs actually right, its infecting people like a virus. And its well deserved to a point. I mean Lebron is just so complete as a player, but I guess in today’s league scoring is more important. Lebron isn’t a pure shooter, he’s a self made shooter. Lebron scores with the best of them, but Durant scores so effortlessly. I will still believe Lebron is over all a more complete player but if Kevin Durant gets this championship…I won’t be able to stop others from saying he’s the best.

Tongue-Out-Like-23ParticipantI have a feeling we’re going to see LeBron vs KD in the Finals a couple more times in the next 5-8 years.

r377ParticipantIf Thunder win there is prob a small chance (maybe 10%) that westbrook may be named Finals MVP. Unlikely but it could happen…..

mosdefParticipantonly cuz Derrick Rose tore up his knee.
as for Durant, he will go down as the most effortless effecient scorer in NBA history cuz Westbrook is taking more shots. Durant just stays quite then says, its my time

omphalosParticipantBeing a more complete player doesn’t necessarily make you a better player. I think if Durant wins this, he should be considered the better player. It comes down to delivering on the big stage, and if Durant does that, he should take the title of best player in the world.
This is different to Dirk last season because they played different positions, and the Mavericks were a team effort, whereas the Thunder and Heat are very similar in their reliance on individual brilliance. If you can’t play with the best, you aren’t the best.
Even if Lebron wins, Durant is coming for his title as world #1 in a couple of seasons regardless.

100% agree. Lebron is obviously the most complete player in the league, but that doesn’t necessarily mean he is the "best" player in the league. This series to me justifies who’s the best player in the league. Lebron (the more complete player), Durant (better scorer and the player I’d rather have).
0 - Posted on: Tue, 06/12/2012 - 7:23pm #680752

KayjayParticipantBeing a scorer makes you a better player? Thats hogwash. Lebron does more for his team then Durant does by far. Durant scores more, and delivers on the big stage. Lebron guards all five positions on the court, Durant only bothers people with his length, nothing more nothing less. Why is the world so eager to forget such an excellent player like Lebron?
I’m a Kings fan and everytime I watch him play, I watch the guy do more in 3 quarters than anybody I’ve seen. He’s litterally all over the court. Its no secret the Thunder are a better team, but what does Lebron have to work with? An ailing Wade, Chris Bosh and inconsistent role players.
This is why Lebron was awarded, and is the three time MVP. Not just because of his work during the entire season, but for the fact he finds ways to will his team to victory. Durant is an excellent player, but lets not be blind to the fact Westbrook is a blur, and they’ve got a sixth man along with easily the best shot blocker in the league on the same team.

KayjayParticipantIf I was alive at the time Magic and Bird were playing, would we have been able to tell who is the best out of those two? Jordan was different, he was undisputedly the best player during his run. But Lebron and Durant have two different types of games. Thats all I’m saying.
0 - Posted on: Tue, 06/12/2012 - 7:27pm #680756

For_Never_EverParticipantLebron also has Wade and Bosh. So he should be able will his team to victory in this series right ?

EntropyParticipantlol durant won’t be known as the best player if he wins. It will still be Lebron for the foreseeable future.

rhamnlacsonParticipantdurant will be known as the guy who took lebrons words and shuved it up his butt if they win this
0 - Posted on: Tue, 06/12/2012 - 8:09pm #680771

sheltwon3ParticipantDurant is more than a scorer. He is complete perimeter offensive player. He can make passes, and do almost anything on the offensive side. He is also an above average defender now. If Durant was bigger, he would do more in the post because he showed in college and against smaller defenders he has the foot work. I think even though Lebron is freak of nature physically and athletically, Durant is the better basketball player. Lebron has not put all of his tools to use to win basketball game like Durant has. Durant has taken the torch from Kobe.
0 - Posted on: Tue, 06/12/2012 - 8:10pm #680773
NYK2010ParticipantDurant is getting close but he’s not the best player.
Definitely the most clutch though.
0 - Posted on: Tue, 06/12/2012 - 8:16pm #680780

NbanflguyParticipantAt age 22, Lebron brought one of the shittiest teams in recent memory to the finals. He is the best player in the NBA and one of the best of all time. He is a physical freak and can do anything on the basketball court. Everyone is so quick to judge him or try to bring him down when all he ever did was have a televison special that brought in money for a kids charity.
0 - Posted on: Tue, 06/12/2012 - 8:56pm #680796

omphalosParticipantJust because Lebron CAN do anything on the basketball court doesn’t mean he WILL do anything on the basketball court. It’s all well and good to say this player can do that, and this player can’t do this, but it doesn’t really matter what they can do, it matters what they actually do.
To quote Aristotle; “We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, therefore, is not an act, but a habit.”
Lebron showed how amazing he can be in Game 6 against Boston, but that was just an act, not a habit. Any player in the NBA can explode for amazing games or show flashes of jaw-dropping brilliance, but that doesn’t necessarily make them better than players who consistently do things at a high level.
For example, Vince Carter is who I consider the most amazing combination of athleticism and skill on the basketball court in the history of the game, he had no weakness in his skillset and no physical limitations, but he couldn’t form the habit of excellence, only tease us with a few acts, so he is not considered as good as his less talented peers (in terms of what he CAN do relative to what they CAN do) like Kobe Bryant.
Lebron has made a habit of dominating the regular season, and was rightly dubbed the MVP of the regular season, but that same habit doesn’t carry over to when the stakes are highest. For all of Lebron’s gifts, he hasn’t made excellence a habit when it counts. Durant on the other hand, has consistently proved he’s an elite scorer, in the regular season or the playoffs, and he outperformed Lebron in today’s game. If he continues to do so throughout the series, Durant must be deemed the best player in the world, even if only until another player consistently defeats or outperforms him.

2quick4uParticipantI believe if the thunders win the championship kevin durant deserves to be labeled as the best player in the world, at least until someone proves him wrong…
this is like the 100 metre dash, I don’t give a fuc* if someone runs 9’50 in practices if then in the world championship or olympic games is not able to get the gold medal… same happens to lebron, off course he is the most complete player: super athletic, can guard 5 positions, has the body of a PF and the speed and mobility of a guard, pases like a PG, scores like a SG and has great motor, but he lacks something(at least so far) and may be the most important and that is mental strength… he is the best player in the world the 1st 3 quarters but when it comes to when it really matters he not only disappears but he doesn’t even want to take the responsability.. it can not be a coincidence that after 8 seasons, every year happens the same.. and please don’t tell that is because he’s not well surrounded..wade and bosh are more than enough to acomplish the title even if they are not at their best…
best player are the ones that have the tools to be the best and they actually prove it and that is winning and taking responsability.. chamberlain, o.robertson, kareem, j.erving, m.johnson, jordan, o’neal or kobe had the tools but also proved they were the best when it matters… other players like d.wilkins, s.kemp, d.robinson, webber, garnett, iverson, mcgrady or v.carter had the tools but for whatever reason were not able to prove they were the best…
in my opinion until lebron james doesn’t win a championship, he cannot be labeled as the best player, the most complete yes, the best NO.
and in the other hand you have kevin durant whom at the age of 23 has already been the best scorer in the league for 3 years and is playing a final surrounded by a good team, yes, but a really young team… and he is taking the whole responsability when it really matters…
so my verdict is… whoever wins the championship deserves to be called the best player in the world.

JrbenzCuse23If I’m looking for a player to take a $hitty team and make them pretty good, I will take lebron. If im looking for a player to take a good team to the next level I’m going with Durant. Lebron’s numbers have a certain hollowness to them, his teams always lacking a certain rhythym. I mean, I’ve watched all of each of their playoff games.
It seems pretty obvious, IMO, from watching them that Kevin is a better basketball player and will be more successful in the league.

delfamParticipantThe problem I have with Lebron is he does do much. On any good team you should have roles and the players on your team needs to understand those roles, this is what makes OKC such a good team and have such good teamwork and chemistry.
With the Heat, Lebron is so mult-talented he tries to do everything for his team, and IMO it makes his teammates feel worthless. They don’t have a role to fit because Lebron does everything and because of this it makes the team chemistry not very good and the team underperform.
IMO every good team needs roles and KD is/will be the better player than Lebron cause he know’s his role and just fits better into his team.

smithers3551ParticipantLebron is a bitch. He can’t make plays when it counts and gets bailed out by the refs
0 - Posted on: Wed, 06/13/2012 - 4:04am #680856

JoeWolf1It’s blatantly obvious when you watch this team matchup that KD and Westbrook are such a superior fit playing on the same team compared to DWade and Lebron.
Westbrook is a mad man in the passing lanes and in transition and KD waits for the game to come to him and is a much more deliberate player who has some of the best length I’ve ever seen in a swing man.
Lebron and Wade are very similar and both are elite players capable of doing great things, but when put together…they don’t compliment each other outside of running the break. It’s just a matter of having two top five players on the same team.
0 - Posted on: Wed, 06/13/2012 - 4:55am #680870

delfamParticipant^ at this stage in his career, I don’t think Wade is any longer elite. He’s on the downhill of his career and with his style of play it could be quick.

i agree
0 - Posted on: Wed, 06/13/2012 - 6:38am #680929
PulseGlazerParticipantDuring these playoffs at least Wade has been far more the problem than Lebron. The idea of the big 3 was for Wade to compete at a top level with LBJ, but only LBJ has been consistent. At this point, in the playoffs Westbrook, Harden, Parker, KG, and Rondo were all better than Wade… and worse than LBJ and KD. They’re pretty clearly the big 2 right now. I think LBJ is better, but this is very much a Magic or Bird – no wrong answer – situation.
