I used to hate on Drummond a lot, but I think he’s starting to get underrated. He had a disappointing Fr. season, but I think UCONN put him in a eally hard situation to succeed. They were a mess. He was playing w/ two ballhog PGs in Napier and Boatright that were mostly interested in creating their own shots. No doubt he played soft and scared on offense, but if he played w/ guards that could find him in opens spots, I don’t think it’s a strectch to say that he would have looked more confident w/ the ball.

UCONN just wasn’t the school for him. I just think that if he went to a different school w/ a more team-oriented, intellingent supporting cast, he would probably be getting more talk as the clear-cut pick after Davis.

If by Greg Oden Jr. you mean the player he was supposed to be then I hope you’re right. They do have many similarities except for the fact that Drummond is healthy. I’d love to see Drummond succeed in the NBA.

Funny, I’ve read multiple posts from you over the last month bashing Drummond, and now you’re saying he’s underrated….flip flopper

^^After I’ve had a chance to analyze the situation he’s in. No doubt he needs development, but I think he would’ve put up better numbers w/ a less selfish team.

The only thing that pisses me off about every single Drummond-Oden comparison is that Oden was good. He was great in college, and he was great when he played in the NBA. He was not a bust because he sucks. It was because he is always injured. So, for anyone to say that Drummond will be the next Greg Oden is either stupid or is a fan of Drummond. All in all, if you’re going to make an "athletic-center-bust" reference, then go Kwame Brown. Oden was good. He was just marred by injuries.

UCONN was a mess this season but Drummond did not help himself. He did not play hard. I watched alot of his games and he took alot of plays off. Saying that I really do like his upside as a pro. He has all the right tools and if he is willing to learn and work hard the sky is the limit. But I don’t think that he is underrated. If anything he is moving toward that line where he can be overrated.

let the kid play against somebody in workouts while he needs it..i guess he strongly believes he is the same elite big man he was hyped in HS and wants to prove it..

In that case, then, yes, i completely agree with you. Its just that when most people mention Oden its negative, so i assumed as much

"if he played w/ guards that could find him in opens spots… w/ a more team-oriented, intellingent supporting cast"

You can say that about 70% of NBA prospects as well.

    1. Whoever said Oden was great, that is funny! The two as of now have nothing in common. Durant makes the Oden pick look worse and worse. The fact that Drummond couldv’e been playing high school ball this year is overlooked. That was the worst I have seen the Huskies under Calhoun when he was able to coach. I hope he get’s it together and believe he can, he was never comfortable or confident, that could and should change with the right staff and mentor. He is a still just a teenager. BTW, I hope Oden can get his health. His situation is sad (good kid, well man now). He could’ve have been a Great rebounder/shot-blocker.

He has been overrated all season long.  There are still heaps of users on here saying how great his workouts were and how great a player he will be in the NBA. If he goes 2nd to 5th, I still believe he will not be an All-Star and will not live up to the high expectations that alot of users on here have of him and that of being a 2-5 pick in this good draft class….

    neg away….

I heard that in an interview before the combine, Drummond said he thinks his play style is like Kevin Durant… and he really meant it. He is delusional about his game, or at least about how teams will allow him to play at the nba level. He’s 6’11" 275lbs. Can’t shoot outside 14 ft and is lazy to boot. If he doesn’t get his head right, he’ll be riding pine. He’ll always be on a roster cause his size and athleticism but a top 5 pick needs to be a perrenial all star.

I don’t think 10 points 7.6 boards and 2.7 blocks per game is a disappointing FRESHMAN season.

It’s called give a guy some time to develop.

He’s going to be a better C than DeAndre Jordan in the NBA and that could be darn good.

Portland and Cleveland have discussed swapping first round picks, presumably so Portland can draft Andre Drummond at #4.
