Most likely the last game ever played with Pierce, Garnett and Ray.  Love them or hate them, you HAVE TO respect the Celtics.  They were outmanned by a more athletic and explosive Heat team and pushed them to the brink but came up just short.  They just ran out of gas at the end.  It was unfortunate that the big 3 only got one ring during their time together, but it was a great run for them.  Doc Rivers is simply a coaching stud, what he did with the Celtics through the losses of Wilcox and O’neal and all the injuries is simply incredible.  He has to be one of the best coaches in the game if not the best.  The Celtics will most likely get younger and more athletic next year, but the era of the big 3 was truly special to watch.  Thanks for making me a fan.

    Amen.

One can only think what could have been if they had stayed healthy. Jeff Green, Jermaine O’neal, etc.

Thank you Celtics for showing us what a champion should act like.

^No excuses bruh. You can say the same about the Bulls – Rose, Noah

And showing what a champion should act like? How about Rondo and KG heading to the locker room early…

Sadly, I think it’s the end of the Spurs Big 3 era and the Lakers Big 3 era as well.

I don’t think the Spurs’ Big 3 is disbanding. Lakers will be trading Gasol this offseason and Celtics won’t renew one of the bigs (probably Ray Allen).

Idk why no one has ever changed the name of the big 3. In reality it has been the big 4 for like 3 or 4 years.

Pierce , Garnett , and Allen are all HOF material and Rondo has yet to cement that status for himself hence the big 3.

I think after this year Rondo should be on the verge of being a HOF as long as he can play 4 or 5 more year and stay with this level of play.  He may not be first ballet like KG, Ray, and Pierce though.

Thank you Celtics for an amazing season, you never quit, you showed strength through adversity and you made us all believe, if only for a little bit. Let’s keep KG and Ray Ray, draft well, get Green and Bradley healthy and come back hungry next season. You proved there is life after the Boston Three Party, with Rondo emerging as a clear-cut franchise player in this post-season.

Going to be depressed for a couple months. But hopefully we can make our two first round draft pick studs.

I think we let Ray Ray walk but then sign KG for a small contract. Hopefully Jeff Green re-signs as well.

If the Celtics draft say Quincy Miller and Fab Melo their future starting lineup could be pretty good in a couple years.

    Rondo

    Bradley

    Miller

    Green

    Melo

All you need to keep the Celtics as a contender are some athletes and jump shooters. Rondo will do the rest.

The Celtics need to draft Andrew Nicholson. He is the type of player Doc Rivers LOVES. He has a good understanding of the game and a good basketall IQ. Definitely a Celtic baller. He can step right in and make a solid impact, not a HUGE one like KG but a smart player making smart moves for the team.

Much respect to the Celtics but honestly 1 championship for 3 HOF’ers was less than impressive. Ray is pure class though.

I’m disappointed in those who try to demean what the Celtics accomplished. Have some class and grace, the guy was simply being a humble fan.

They did what they were supposed to do, win a championship. They probably wouldve won the next year had KG not been hurt, but injuries a part of the game.

I’m a Twolves fan, and even though KG hates us now, I still love the guy. He might be the biggest dick ever on the court, but by golly I still love him (not that I love dick or anything) and everything he has done. He’s one of my 5 favorite players ever and I wouldve loved to see him and Duncan go head to head in a finals before they both left.

Good run for the Boston 3 party, they just ran into a better team in Miami again.

@AKOO; Really? When you consider that the two seasons we had our 3 players 100% we went to the Finals both times, I’d say one championship is pretty impressive.

You can say "3 HOF’ers" all you like, but if they aren’t healthy for the post-season run it doesn’t matter if they are on the roster.

KG was down in 08/09, we came within 6 minutes of winning in 09/10, and we lost Rondo in 10/11.

This season Ray was battling bone spurs and was a shell of his former self and Pierce was never the same after spraining his knee against Atlanta.

Nothing is guaranteed in sports, no matter how stacked the roster is on paper, that’s why we play the games.

Celtics did well  but the thing is now it is time to move on to some degree.  Ray Allen is all but gone but KG may stick around and they have some young talent and some draft picks.  They should find a way to move up and grab Perry Jones, Arnet Moultrie, or Henson.  If they can find a person to replace KG to some degree in the future, they may not fall off that move since it appears that Bradley can do a lot of things Allen did as a shooter and he can paly defense.  They may luck up and have enough talent fall to them. Hopefully Pietrus stays with them.

After watching years of bad basketball I can gladly say thank you to the Big Three and Rondo for the effort they put in night in and night out. I only got to see them all play live a couple of times, but I barely missed a game at home. That first championship run was my favorite season of any sports team, even more so then the 2004 Red Sox!

I’m sad to see them go, but I’m also a little excited at what is coming next. I think people underestimate the C’s future, and underate Rondo even more. He cemented himself as a bonafide superstar in the Miami series in my eyes, and will be the focal point of this team now. Also, I feel comfortable knowing that Doc is still the coach of the team for a couple more years. He is one of my favorite coaches, and he just does everything the right way. Can’t wait for the future.

Celtics weren’t winning last year Rondo wasn’t hurt till Game 3 they won that game but still would’ve lost the series.  Also he played games 4 and 5 not sure what you were watching.

1 Title doesn’t seem like enough with the 3 HOF players and Rondo who’s the best player on the team for the last couple season.

They never replaced role players like P.J. Brown and James Posey even though Big Baby was solid.

2 of the last 3 years they lost in Game 7 because they were outrebounded badly in the 2nd halfs and tired.  Didn’t help that the GM failed to acquire better roled players so they’d have more rest.  The Perkins trade was awful giving up the leagues best post defender for someone who was going to be a backup SF and PF really.

KG and Rondo leaving the floor early in Miami not much sportsmanship there.

At least Pierce stayed shows class.

@NYK2010; Okay so the Celtics lost two on the road to start the series and then Rondo went down in their first home game.

While he may have "played" in games 4 and 5, the dude had a severely injured elbow and was gutting it out every second he was out there. He’s a different animal when he’s healthy in the post-season, as I think anybody should be able to see.

As far as the front office screwing up by trading Perkins, in one of the game 7s of the last 3 years he went down with an injury, hardly the GMs fault is it? Also, replacing quality role players is a lot harder than it sounds when you’re straddled with KG, Allen and Pierce’s contracts, whilst needing room to extend Rondo.

People take for granted how hard it is to win multiple or back-to-back championships because of the stellar runs of Phil Jackson’s teams in the 90s and 00s, but even winning one is a big accomplishment in a league with all-time greats like Kobe Bryant still at his peak during their best years. They had 2 healthy years, and they made the Finals twice, won it once, and it took it to game 7 in another. To expect anything more is just plain bias against them.

A lot of the time Rondo is out running and has to pull up. I think there is no need to make drastic changes they were right there. Ray Allen will be much better after they take out those bone spurs, but he should come off the bench. They have a lot of money and 2 first round picks. They have a bright future IMO. I am tireed of big three Celtics and big three Heat. Just call these guys by their names or by the team name. The saying is getting old, and there was really only one big three. The Celtics are a team and so is the Heat. It would be nice for the media to stop recycling sh!t and be original.

You act like winning a championship is easy.  Very few teams with an aging roster with limited cap flexibility can contend for championships year after year.  Their are 30 teams in the league; it is impressive for any one team to win the championship.  You as a Knicks fan should know very well that adding flashy names doesn’t mean you are the favorite to win the championship.

Plus, the Celtics almost won the championship and probably should have in 2010 despite a roster hindered severely by injuries.  What that team did was probably even more impressive than the 2008 team.

Boston lost in 5 and every lost was 8-10 pts so they were outplayed last year.

Rondo was hurt but still played 30 plus mins and they had Delonte West as a backup he’s actually capable of filling in as PG if needed.

Bosh outplayed KG by a lot check the box scores and LeBron killed Pierce no way Boston wins that series.

Its not that hard to find role players ppl would love to play in Boston since they were a contender.  Even easier to find bench players problem is the Celtics kept signing old ones or overrated ones.

Relying on O’neals, Finley, Arroyo, Pavlovic, Daniels off the bench didn’t get it done.

I was hoping for a Spurs Celtics championship just so all those great players could get one last shot. But it’s the young guns time now. Dallas, Los Angeles (Lakers), Boston and San Antonio are all really in need of a rebuild very soon.. At the very least they need to bring in young talent. Boston at the very least has Rondo which is quite a boost but the others really don’t have much a future 5 years down the road..

They have the same amount of Championships in 5 years as the entire New York Knicks franchise throughout history…1 Championship for The Big 3, 1 Championship for the entire Knicks franchise…I’d say they did fine in the 5 years post Kg,Allen and Pierce prime, and The Knicks would have love to switched roles with The Celtics in that time span too…

Just show a little respect and look forward to them All retiring in the near future, except for Rondo who will be destroying Jeremy Lin in Madison Square Garden twice a year for the next 3 years…

Really shows how much you know about the Knicks and the NBA.  They won 2 titles in the 70’s lost in the Finals to the West, Baylor, Goodrich, Wilt Lakers and made the East Conf. Finals on two other occassions all in 5 years.  Seems like a pretty good run.

Just because the Knicks sucked the last decade doesn’t mean they were never good guess you missed that 90’s run.  Here is what happened they made 2 Finals, lost 1 in 7 games other one played w/out Ewing both times losing to the best big man in the league.  Also lost to Jordan’s Bulls in 6 games in the Conf. Finals in 93.  Altogether 2 Finals losses and 2 Conf. Finals losses with that team.

I’m not hating on the Big 3 rooted for them a lot since I’m a big fan of Ray Allen but same old story with the Celtics form 2010-2012 too old and not enough depth.  They had a great run and I didn’t even bring up that they beat the Lakers w/out Bynum or Ariza like a lot of Lakers fans have.

Knicks f’d up their team for more than half a decade by trading expirings and draft picks for overrated players all thanks to an idiot owner and the worst GM in the league.

I think you have a bit of a double standard.  You say the Celtics disappointed by winning 1 championship in 5 years, but that the Knicks were really good for winning no championships in the ’90s.

Also, for bringing up that the Lakers didn’t have Ariza yet in 2008 and Bynum was hurt, well, the Celtics can’t apologize for the Lakers not being able to play a player not on their team, and the Celtics won the clincher by 39 points.  the Bynum of 4 years ago wasn’t enough to put the Lakers over the top.  And I didn’t even bring up that Perkins partially tore his ACL and Ray Allen lost his jump shot and missed 29 consecutive threes due to a knee bruise in the 2010 finals, like a lot of Celtics fans have.

Knicks did dissapoint thats kind of obvious for some reason ppl said that 90’s team overachieved becaz they had just Ewing and a bunch of role players.  To me they underachieved for sure should’ve won a title.

Just stating what Lakers fans tell me about the 08 team I don’t think it makes a difference as Boston was too great that year.

I think this is all pre-mature.

Pierce has at least one more guaranteed year on his contract. Why not bring KG and Allen back at least one more year (obviously not at what they’re getting paid at now) to make another run at it? I mean, just to align their contracts with Pierces’, they could even through on a second non-guaranteed year. KG played his ass off this year. And with the emergence of Bradley, Allen had no problems coming off of the bench.

And why would anybody think the Spurs Big Three era is over? Duncan will be back. Similar to KG, definitely not at the amount he’s making now, but he’ll be back.

I feel somebody will offer more long term deals to Allen and Garnett than the Celtics would want to match.  Pierce’s contract is up after 2 years, so if they were to resign both, I think they would want to avoid signing both for over two years.  I think they should resign Garnett, as his leadership is impossible to replace.  He could anchor the defense and mentor their young bigs.  Resigning Ray Allen wouldn’t be ideal, in my opinion, unless they can get him for a reasonable cost.  Given how good he was at the beginning of this season, I think some team will overpay for him.

Oh well  the big three era is over now we can concentrate calling it a "team" game (like okc plays). I got so sick and tired of the nba doing the "big 3" to almost every team singling out all the other players. Good riddance! now we can get back to real bball

The heat will not  have a chance in the world because they only rely on the 3 instead of 12 (notice i didn’t say 5).

OKC is a nice story and all being a smaller market, but last I checked they have 3 guys who average about 75% of their scoring. Nowadays that garnishes the big 3 label.

Yes they have Ibaka, Sefolosha, Perkins and Collison, just like the Heat have Battier, Chalmers, Haslem, and Miller. Obviously all of these teams have role players, but do you think casual fans are going to watch the Thunder because they enjoy watching Nick Collison take charges?

The Celtics success didnt surprise me at all .Becuz when they were put 2gether all 3 guys were hungry for a ring and knew that they had to give up individual honors to become champions..I really dislike Pierce’s attitude but admire him as a player…I was happy to see Doc and KG win a ring…I’ve benn fans of theirs for years..And they deserved it..

But i think for next year KG should most def be resigned..His defense, leadership and rebounding was priceless all season..What type of contrct he’s looking for is hard to say..But he has made his money and maybe another shot at a ring will make him come back….And he’ll be much easier to replace than Allen….Injuries held back Ray Allen for most of the year, but in game 2 in the Miami series he regained his touch..If he’s let go,Boston will have 10 million to use..

If KG & Green returns,Pierce, Rondo and blossoming defensive star Bradley remain healthy next year, with two 1st round picks, in a deep draft they could be serious contenders again next year… Tyler Zeller,Terrance Ross or Royce White will fall to them… Or maybe Celtics can swing a deal to bring Austin to Boston to team with Rondo will have Celtics fans running to buy tickets…

Relax guy the Celtics gave up scrubs for Ray Allen.

Also only Al Jefferson was a real player in the KG trade. All because Pierce wanted out unless they made a trade and KG wanted out of Minny.

KG could’ve just as easily been traded to the Lakers, Bulls he was rumored for a while a lot of luck was involved.

The 07 Spurs would’ve beaten the Celtics since Rondo sucked back then.

Duncan, Parker, Ginobili on offense and Bowen’s All NBA defense and the best coach in Poppovich.

    Keep imagining kid.

Big 3 won a lot of series but the last 3 years lost to younger, athletic teams.

Will they bring back KG for another year or 2 and Ray Allen who knows.

The picks will definitely help but they need a lot of depth on the front line can’t keep getting outrebounded and by Miami.  Chicago would kill them on the glass.
